Norma D. Kerns

On Thursday, June 25, 2009, Norma D. Kerns, 77, of Bellefontaine, was called home by her precious Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was born on March 18, 1932 in Bellefontaine, OH to the late John Herschel and Ethel M. “Peg” Robinaugh Jennings.
On July 1, 1951 she married William S. Kerns in Bellefontaine and he preceded her in death on June 6, 1995.
Surviving is a daughter, Beth Clark of Bellefontaine; 2 sons, Matt (Michelle) Kerns of Sagamore Hills, OH and John W. (Marcella) Kerns of Warner Robins, GA; 2 sisters, Lois Lattimer of Bellefontaine and Delores Ott of Bowling Green, OH; 4 grandchildren, Nicholas and Jessica Kerns, Jason Clark, and Holly Clark Shockley; and 3 great grandchildren, Logan Clark and Gavin and Garrett Shockley.
Norma and her husband owned and operated Commercial Glassware Sales in Naples, FL. She worked for Goodyear Dept. Store in Ann Arbor, MI, and Elder Beerman in Dayton.
She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Bellefontaine where she served on the Church Council and was a Sunday School Teacher for the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor, MI. She was a member of the Eastern Star, White Shrine, Friendly Senior Center, and the Bellefontaine Kiwanis Club. A Girl Scout and Cadet Leader for over 25 years, she was a volunteer for Rachel’s House and an avid Logan County Duplicate bridge player. In her high school years, she was Life Guard and Swim Instructor here in Bellefontaine. She also was a volunteer during election time, and enjoyed bowling, golfing and sewing. Her other enjoyments were fishing at Lake St. Peter in Ontario, Canada and Shelling on the Florida Golf Coast.
There will be a Memorial Service with Pastor Jonathon Bull at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at the First Lutheran Church in Bellefontaine. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Belle Center, OH.

Gerald L. Collins

Gerald L. Collins, 76, of Bellefontaine, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2009 at Mercy Memorial Hospital in Urbana. He was born on June 13, 1933 in Hardin Co. to the late James B. and Esta Verne (Wilgus) Collins. He is also preceded in death by 3sisters.
On May 1, 1953 he married Carol Burden in Bellefontaine, OH and she survives along with their children, Christopher (Laurie) Collins of Lakeview, Bruce (Tammy) Collins and Lori (Scott) Herrmann both of Columbus and Pamela Phelps of Bellefontaine; 2 sisters, Eileen Plummer of Lima and Beryl Boles of Kenton; 11 grandchildren, Tosh, Maxwell, & Samuel Collins all of Lakeview, Ian, Emily & Amanda Collins and Shelby & Luke Herrmann all of Columbus and Daniel, Eric, & Jared Phelps all of Bellefontaine.
He was a machinist for Rockwell International for 22 years and later worked as an assembler and inspector at Bellemar retiring in 1996.
A 1951 graduate of Ridgeway High School, Gerald was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Bellefontaine. He enjoyed playing his guitar and singing Country and Bluegrass style music with the “Collins Family Band”.
Visitations are scheduled for Wednesday, July 1 from 6 to 8 at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Thursday, July 2nd at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Bellefontaine with Father Jim Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery.

David C. Brugler

David C. Brugler, 82, of Bellefontaine, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2009 at his residence. He was born on March 31, 1927 in Big Springs, OH to the late Maurice C. and Clemma Ruth Sadler.
On July 4, 1948 he married Rhea K. Coate in Bellefontaine and she preceded him in death on May 8, 1990. Also preceding her in death are his sisters, Margaret Rogers and Elinore Morhead.
On June 8, 2001, in Bellefontaine, he married Carolyn Sue Huffman Newhart and she survives along with two sons, Mike (Kathleen) Brugler of Enon, OH and Steven (Krista) Brugler of Springfield; a daughter, Jan (Dick) DePalma of Columbus; two step daughters, Debra (Stephen) Cherry of Springfield and Pamela (Tim) Evancho of South Charleston, OH; and six grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
A Navy veteran, serving in WWII and the Korean War, David worked for the New York Central, Penn Central and Conrail for 39 years. He owned and operated Dave’s Sunoco on North Main St. in Bellefontaine from 1961 to 1978. He was a member of the B.P.O.E. #132, Bellefontaine Am Vets and the Lake Moose Lodge.
Visitations are scheduled for Wednesday, July 1st from 6 to 8 at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine. A funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm on Thursday, July 2nd at the Eichholtz Funeral Home with Rev. A. W. Purdin officiating. Burial will follow in the Rushsylvania Cemetery with a Military Service by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard.

Argyle Ileen Myers, 68, of Lewistown, Ohio, passed away Friday evening, June 26, 2009, at Essex of Springfield.
She was born on January 18, 1941 in Crestline , Ohio to the late Willis and Doris Lucille Shade Marshall. On September 20, 1970, she married Jimmy Myers at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Clay Twp, Auglaize, Co., Ohio.
She is survived by her husband, four children: Roy S. (Lisa) Myers, Springfield, OH, Tammy D. Myers, Wakefield, MA, Tonya L. Myers, Lewistown, OH, and John P. (Amber) Myers, Huntsville, OH; 12 grandchildren: Marcus, Natalie, Nichole, Matthew, Whitney, Marshall, Mallory, Brittany, Michael, Daisy, Alyssa, and Emberly; and a brother, Herbert (Betty) Marshall, Crestline, OH. She was preceded in death by a brother, Adrian.
Ileen graduated from Crestline High School and then the School of Cosmetology in Mansfield, OH. She was a member of the Galilee Lutheran Church, Russells Point, OH. She was a homemaker and beautician who enjoyed taking care of her children, playing cards, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Reverend David Buchenroth will conduct a funeral service at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at Shoffstall Funeral Home, Lakeview. Visitation will be Monday, June 29th from 5-7 at Shoffstall Funeral Home. Following services, her request was to be cremated and interment will be at Walnut Hill Cemetery, New Hampshire, OH at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be given in her name to Galilee Lutheran Church, Russells Point, OH.
Eva "Lena" Spain Carman Jackson

Eva "Lena" Spain Carman Jackson, 73, of DeGraff, died on Friday, June 26, 2009, at her residence.
She was born on February 8, 1936, in DeGraff, a daughter of the late Louis Ezray Spain and Maggie Leota Nevers Spain Smith. She was also preceded in death by a daughter; Margie Sue Dennison, brothers; Eddy LeRoy Spain, Lawrence Spain, Donald Spain and Gerald Spain.
Survivors include sons, Bruce (Shirley) Carman of St Paris, David Carman of Bellefontaine, James Dale Landers of Urbana. A sister; Marjorie (Ray) Hittepole of DeGraff, grandchildren; Shawn Dennison of Lakeview, Billie Dennison of Lakeview, Rebecca Carman of Bellefontaine, Jenna Carman of Bellefontaine, Ryan Carman of Bellefontaine and Shellby Mays of Lakeview.
She attended DeGraff High School, was a homemaker and member of the DeGraff United Methodist Church.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 3, 2009 at Greenwood-Union Cemetery, DeGraff, with Rev. Carolyn Christman officiating.

Grace A. Nettleingham

Grace A. Nettleingham, 91, of Bellefontaine, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at Logan Acres, Bellefontaine, Ohio.
She was born July 4, 1917 in Ford County, Illinois, a daughter of the late Henry and Mable Perkins York. She also was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
On March 7, 1936 she married Melrose D. Nettleingham and he died on March 10, 1997.
Survivors include daughters, Phyllis (Kenneth) Munson of Buffalo, New York, Lois (Richard) Mayhue, Henhall, California; sons, Richard D. (Ruth) Nettleingham, Bellefontaine and Allen (Jo Ann) Nettleingham of Charlestown, West Virginia; 13 grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was an Administrative Assistant at Fairborn Schools and was a licensed Lay Speaker in the Methodist church for many years. She as a member of the Lewistown-Trinity United Methodist Church in Lewistown where she held many chair manships within the church and was a charter member of Young-At-Heart in Lakeview.
Gathering of friends will be Thursday, July 2, 2009 from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Lewistown-Trinity United Methodist Church Community Center, Lewistown and a memorial service held at 7 p.m. at the Lewistown-Trinity United Methodist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lewistown-Trinity United Methodist Church.

Josephine Louise Neeley

Josephine Louise Neeley, 68, of Bellefontaine, died at 4:10 PM Thursday, June 25, 2009, at Mary Rutan Hospital.
She was born on November 19, 1940, in Chillicothe, Ohio, a daughter of the late Karl M. and Ruby Chazzin Kornmeyer. She was also preceded in death by a son, Billy Joe Cavins.
Survivors include sons Henry Cavins of West Liberty and William Ray (Amanda) Neeley of Bellefontaine; daughters Carol Kerns of Cable, Patricia Harber of Bellefontaine and Audrey (Kevin) Maxam of West Liberty; brother Charles Kornmeyer of Athens, 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She graduated from Chillicothe High School, was a homemaker and liked to play Bingo at the Friendly Senior Center on Friday nights. She attended First Friends Church in Bellefontaine and was a US Marine Corp veteran.
Calling hours will be at Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home, DeGraff on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 from 3 to 5 p.m. Services will be held at a later date.

John S. Sarson

John S. Sarson, 59, of Huber Heights, Ohio, passed away Friday, June 26, 2009, following a courageous fight with cancer.
He was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 25, 1950, the son of Ronald S. Sarson, who survives in Bellefontaine, and the late Ora Alice Chewning Sarson, who preceded him in death on July 7, 2008. John is also survived by sons Ryan S. (Angela) Sarson of Troy, Ohio, and Bradley J. Sarson of Huber Heights, Ohio; sister Carol Wapplehorst of Bellefontaine; 3 grandchildren, Cooper Wemmer, Aidyn Sarson and Hunter Sarson; one niece, one nephew, and three great nephews. A brother-in-law, Jerry Wapplehorst, also precedes him in death.
John was a retired United States Air Force Veteran, serving in the Vietnam and Desert Storm War, and served with the Air National Guard. He was a member of the American Legion and the National Hot Rod Association. John enjoyed driving his hot rod to car shows and being with his family.
Rev. Tim West will be conducting a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Bellefontaine, where visitation is one hour prior to service. On Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. a military graveside service will be held at the Dayton National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Southwest Region, 2808 Reading Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45206.

Roger Warren Henson, 55, of Lakeview, passed away Tuesday, June 23. Visitations will be on Saturday, June 27 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m.
J. Howard Yoder

J. Howard Yoder, 93, of West Liberty, passed away Tuesday, June 23 at Mary Rutan Hospital. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 11 at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior at Grace Chapel Church in West Liberty. Memorial contributions may be made to the West Liberty Lions Club or the Marmon Valley Farm. Kauffman-Eichholtz Funeral Home of West Liberty assisted with arrangements.
Mr. Yoder was born in Champaign County on December 18, 1915, the son of the late Emmett W. and Ella (Stoltzfus) Yoder.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Elva (Kauffman) Yoder, whom he married February 26, 1939 in Champaign County and also a brother, Harold Yoder and a sister Leona Hostetler. He is survived by four children; James (Margy) Yoder, Sally Yoder, Peggy Yoder, all of West Liberty, Sandy (Gene) King of Zanesville, Ohio and a brother, Emmett (Carol) Yoder of Punta Gorda, Florida; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
He was a 1933 graduate of Salem High School and a farmer and building contractor for many years where he developed property at Woodland Rest and Wyandot Village in the West Liberty area. After retirement, he volunteered his construction skills for over 25 years to Scioto Hills Baptist Youth Camp in Wheelersburg, Ohio, Logan County Habitat for Humanity, and Marmon Valley Farm in Zanesfield, Ohio. He was an active member of the West Liberty Lions Club and enjoyed being involved with the Labor Day celebration each year. Donating 16 gallons of blood to the Logan County Blood Bank was a highlight of his life. He was one of the founding members of the Grace Chapel Church, West Liberty, where he was a member for over fifty years. He enjoyed hunting and the great outdoors and Ohio State football, where he was a season ticket holder for more than 50 years.
