Sherry Kay Barton, 57, of Lakeview, passed away at her residence on Sunday, July 26, 2009.

She was born on October 16, 1951 in Bellefontaine to Charles M. and Rosemary L. (Barker) Barton who survives in Bellefontaine. Also surviving is a brother, Jeffrey C. (Nicole) Barton of Bellefontaine and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by a sister, Jacalyn A. Barton Wilcoxon, who passed away on April 22, 2007.

A 1970 graduate of Bellefontaine High School, Sherry was an employee of Honda Transmission in Russells Point. She was a member of the Indian Lake Elks Club and was an avid Cleveland Browns fan.

Visitations are scheduled for Friday, July 31, 2009 from 5 to 8 at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine. Pastor C.J. Plogger will conduct a funeral service at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at the First Church of God in Bellefontaine. Burial will follow in the Highland Memorial Cemetery.

Barbara Elaine Yelton James

Barbara Elaine Yelton James, 71, of Bellefontaine, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2009 at Heartland of Bellefontaine.

She was born on May 13, 1938 in Bellefontaine to the late Vernar and Lucille (Major) Yelton.

On May 5, 1956, 53 years ago, the Rev. Lloyd Harris married her and Harold Foster James in Mt. Victory, OH.

A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she is survived by her husband; six children, Robert (Tammy) James, David (Diane) James, both of Belle Center, Betty (Tom) Bodi of Huntsville, Nancy (Phil) Ritter, Bonnie Sharp and Dennis James all of Bellefontaine, and a special nephew, whom she raised, Vern “Butch” (Susie) Yelton of Huntsville. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, Cody and Alyssa James, Joshua and Shane James, Kerri, Kristopher and Kaleb Ritter, Tiffany (Brian) Phillips, Patricia Bodi, Melinda (Robert) Rosignol, Jonni (Nick) Boggs, Jeremy Sharp, and Traig James; three great grandchildren, Lindsey and Lilly Phillips, and Keith James; special sisters-in-law, Joanne Yelton of Big Springs and Jean and Sandy Yelton both of Bellefontaine; a brother-in-law, Harold Coy of Milford Center; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death is a grandson, Justin Phillips James Ritter; three brothers, Vernar, Robert and Charles Yelton; and two sisters, Blanch Coy and Betty Vermillion.

Barbara worked at the Bellefontaine Lutheran Thrift Store for over 30 years, and at one time was the manager. She loved to cook, play bingo and go shopping. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them at family gatherings. She will be greatly missed by her loved ones and family members.

Rev. Philip Wolf will conduct a funeral service at 11:00 am on Friday, July 31, 2009 at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine where family and friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 on Thursday, July 30th. Burial will be in the Huntsville Cemetery.

Ruby L. Cummins

Ruby L. Cummins, 86, of Bowling Green and formerly of Lakeview, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2009.

She was born on July 22, 1922 in El Paso, Texas a daughter of the late Lee and Loretta Milligan Alspaugh.

On April 19, 1946 she married Cecil E. Cummins and he preceded her in death on November 19, 1985. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Larry and Bud; and a sister, Gean.

She was a farmer most of her life and she enjoyed gardening and was an avid bowler. She was very close to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was very active in their lives. She was a member of the VFW in Bowling Green and Roundhead and also a member of the Amvets in Bowling Green and also the Doyle R. Miller Post #39 in Lakeview.

She is survived by daughters, Marie Peek of Bowling Green and Connie Kirkhuff of Tennessee; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Marcella Neeld of Bellefontaine; brother, Chester Alspaugh of Rushsylvania and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, July 30th at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Barry Baughman officiating. Visitation will be held at Sanford-Eichholtz Funeral Home, Lakeview on Thursday, July 30, 2009 from 10 – 11 a.m.

Marlin “Jack” Daines

Marlin “Jack” Daines, 74, of West Liberty, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2009 at the Ohio State University Hospital.

He was born on June 30, 1935 in Logansville, OH to the late Ruben L. and Mae C. (Shook) Daines.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Julia Ann (Johnson) Daines, on January 18, 2000; two brothers, Lewis Martin and Frank Daines; and 2 sisters, Merle Smith and Pearl Sines.

Surviving is his second wife, Gloria Louise (Strawser) Daines, whom he married on December 1, 2001; two sons, Guy (Anita) Daines and Doug (Cathy) Hoffman both of West Liberty; three daughters, Kem Daines of Marion, Ruth (Dave) Kennedy of West Liberty, and Jeannie (Randy) Stidham Daines of Hamel, Illinois; a stepson, Don (Cindy) Cokain of Rushsylvania; four stepdaughters, Melanie Cokain of Bellefontaine, Deb (Steve) Vermillion of Bellefontaine, Marilyn Roberts of Rushsylvania, Denise (Danny) McAdams of Mooresville, Indiana; a sister, Dolly Harshbarger of Bellefontaine; 12 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and his faithful dog, “Casper”.

Jack retired from International Harvestor after 34 years of service as an electrician. He was a United States Navy veteran, serving in the Korean War, was a member of the Rushsylvania First United Presbyterian Church and a member of the Antique Power Association of Logan County. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed woodworking, hunting, resorting old tractors and farming.

A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 am on Friday, July 31, 2009 at the Kauffman-Eichholtz Funeral Home in West Liberty with Rev. Russell Williams and Pastor Evan Wall officiating. Visitations are scheduled at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 on Thursday, July 30, 2009. Burial will be in the Zanesfield Cemetery following the service with Military Honors by the Logan County Honor Guard.

Phyllis G. Thompson

Phyllis G. Thompson, 88, of Russells Point, passed away at 4:07 a.m. on Friday, July 24, 2009 at Heartland of Indian Lake, Lakeview, Ohio. She was born on January 23, 1921 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Rudolph and Leona Seitz Graeter.

On Dec. 17, 1949 she married Paul E. Thompson and he preceded her in death on Dec. 15, 2000. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Graeter.

Surviving is a brother, William (Betty) Graeter of Urbana; sisters, Carol Scott of Huber Heights and Betty (Chester) Dunn of Lebanon, Ohio; good friends, Gary Everhart and Sue William; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She worked at Frigidaire in Dayton and retired after 30 years. She was a member of Eastern Star of Bellefontaine and enjoyed golfing and bowling and volunteered at Heartland of Indian Lake for 30 years.

Pastor Scott Anderson will officiate a graveside services on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Huntsville Cemetery, Huntsville, Ohio.

Willard “Til” Vane Winter

Willard “Til” Vane Winter, 85, of Bellefontaine, passed away at 1:15 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at his residence. He was born on June 24, 1924 in Raymond, OH to the late Willard E. and Marion Gunder Winter.

On June 28, 1951 he married Mary Alice Mullaney in Raymond and she survives in Bellefontaine.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Vincent.

Surviving are sons, Anthony V. Winter of Lima and Christopher (Sandy) Winter of Bellefontaine; two daughters, Shelley (Rick) Nease of Bellefontaine and Patricia (Daryl) Boyd of Galena, Ohio; grandchildren, R. Matthew Nease, Kristen Yoder, Aaron Nease, Andrew Boyd, Natalia Chase, Colin Boyd, Anthony W. Winter, Shannon Winter, Brad Winter, Brandon Winter; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Larry (Beverly) Winter, Marysville; sister, Mary Madylene Hurd of Merriam, Kansas.

Willard was a brick mason for Knowlton Construction and Thomas & Marker. He was a member of the Zanesfield United Methodist Church and was a graduate of Raymond High School in 1942. He served with the 119th Army Medical Battalion in the European Theater during WWII.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 28th at 11:00 a.m. at the Zanesfield United Methodist Church where friends may call one hour prior to the service. A private burial will be held in Zanesfield Cemetery with military honors by the Logan County Honor Guard.

Florence “Irene” Stevenson Bishop, 82, of Bellefontaine, passed away on Friday, July 24, 2009 at Mary Rutan Hospital, Bellefontaine. She was born on September 4, 1926 in Shelby County, OH to the late Henry and Delphine Alexander Schmidt. She was also preceded in death by a son, Dennis Stevenson, daughter, Mary Lou Bateman and brothers, Melvin, Raymond and Valerian, sisters, Rachael Schmidt, Edwina Chappie.

Survivors include sons, Bill (Bonnie) Stevenson, Rushsylvania, Herbert (Becky) Stevenson of Belle Center and Carl Stevenson, Bellefontaine; daughter, Jo Ann Stevenson, San Diego, California; 14 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, brother, Lester (Bonnie) Schmidt, Covington, Joanne (Sebastian “Shorty”) Schmidt, Bradford, Ohio; sisters, Agnes Heintz, Covington, Ohio, Margaret (Sy), Luthman, Anna, Ohio.

She was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church where she was an usher. She was also a member of St. Vincent De Paul Society and was on the board of Catholic Social Service. She was a faithful visitor of friends and parishioners that were shut-in.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 29th from 5 to 8 at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine with rosary being held at 4:30 p.m. A funeral mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 30th at the St. Patrick Catholic Church with Rev. Jim Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery.

Harold M. Swiger, 95, of Jackson Center, died July 17, 2009 at 11:14 a.m. in Fair Haven Shelby County Home in Sidney. He was born on September 20, 1913 in Jackson Center to the late Lewis M. & Ida Baker Swiger. On June 12, 1937 he married Opal P. Snapp and she preceded him in death on July 31, 2001. He was also preceded in death by a son Eugene Swiger; a daughter, Kathleen Swiger; a step granddaughter, Shannon Shoenleben; and 4 sisters, Dorothy Ludwig, Evelyn Stillers, Wilma Swiger and Norma Jean Babcock.

A farmer, Mr. Swiger was a member of Christ The King Church in Jackson Center.

Survivors include a son Donald M. (Doris) Swiger of Minster; a grandson, Travis M. (Tina) Swiger of Jackson Center; a step granddaughter, Monica (Dave) Byers of Minster; a step grandson, Kent Cagle of Camden, Tennessee; 1 great granddaughter; 8 step great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Stella M. Pitts Craft, 82, of Lewistown, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2009, at home.

She was born on February 7, 1927, in Guage, KY to the late Henry and Virgie Rowe Pitts. On August 30, 1944, she married William H. Craft in Magoffin Co, KY. He died on December 19, 1987. She was also preceded in death by a daughter: Connie, son: Harrison, and 11 siblings.

She is survived by seven children: Ballard (Carolyn) Craft, Huntsville, Leroy (Jeanne) Craft, Petersburg, MI, Treva Smith, Bellefontaine, Wanda (Frank) Gressner, Lewistown, Gloria (Douglas) Morris, DeGraff, Sharon (Tom) Wireman, Elida and Karen Helms, Russells Point, 42 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren and many loving family members and friends.

Stella was a homemaker and loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother to her family and many others she included as her family, a fine lady who knew no stranger.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 20, 2009, at Shoffstall Funeral Home, Lakeview. Burial will be in Huntsville Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday, July 19th from 2-5 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Monday at the funeral home.

John K. Purk, 51, of Bellefontaine, died July 15, 2009 at 8:10 a.m. at Mary Rutan Hospital, Bellefontaine, Ohio. He was born in Bellefontaine on November 23, 1957 to John H. Purk of Sidney and Marjorie McFarlin Allen, both of whom survive.

John worked at HBD Industries in Bellefontaine for 30 years. A 1976 graduate of Riverside High School, he enjoyed playing computer games.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Welda K. (Riley) Malone and Cheryl Falke, both of Sidney; 2 Nieces Dreama Pitts and Melissa Malone; 4 Nephews, Matthew Pitts, Joshua Malone, Adam Newman and Justin Newman; 1 Great Niece and 4 Great Nephews.

Ruby Eva Lee Gamble, 71, of DeGraff, was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at 11:13 a.m. at Mary Rutan Hospital, Bellefontaine, Ohio. She was born in Sacramento, California on January 12, 1938, the daughter of the late Jack and Clara Mae Carlton Easter. On February 7, 1956 she married Max Edward Gamble and he preceded her in death on January 14, 1996.

A homemaker, Ruby enjoyed her family, reading, gardening, various arts and crafts, volunteering and going to the YMCA. She was an active member of the Philadelphia Lutheran Church, sang with the Millennium Melodears Chorus, volunteered for the Ohio Reads Program, was a member of the Red Hat Club the “Chatty Hatties” and was a lifetime member of the Moose.

Survivors include two daughters; Kathy (Dale) Madden of Sidney, Peggy (Paul) Butkovich of Urbana; two sons, Max (Connie) Gamble of Bellefontaine and Steve (Kathy) Gamble of Ada, Ohio; 14 Grandchildren; 12 Great Grandchildren; 1 Great-Great Grandson; a brother Lewis Easter of Sacramento, California and many nieces and nephews. An infant sister Judy preceded her in death.

Opal Lavoone Gross Wagner, 89, of Huntsville, OH, went to be with the Lord while her family was by her side, Monday morning, July 13, 2009 at Logan Acres Care Center in Bellefontaine, OH.

She was born at her home in Stokes Twp, Logan Co, OH on June 25, 1920 to the late Charlie and Dora Schick Gross. She graduated from Lakeview High School in 1939. She married Gerald Alvin Wagner on December 24, 1940. They started their family with two sons. As he went to serve his country in the Army, she expected his third son. Their family continued with another son and 2 daughters. She worked hard as a farmer’s wife at their residence of 60 years west of Huntsville, OH. She was a member of the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Clay Twp, Auglaize Co, OH.

She is survived by four sons: Carl H (Rose Mary) Wagner, Huntsville, OH, Gerald A. (Patricia) Wagner, Jr., Reno, NV, Phillip S. (Karen) Wagner, Huntsville, OH, and Robert L. (Candice Webster) Wagner, Ft. Myers, FL, two daughters: Dorothea M (Larry) Longbrake, Huntsville, OH, and Maryann (Jeffrey) Klipstine, Sidney, OH, 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, 2 sisters-in-law, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Gerald, who died February 26, 1984, one sister: Salome Gross Myers, and two brothers: Elwood S. Gross and Allen Jay Gross.

Reverend William Barrett and Pastor Ray Headings will conduct a funeral at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at Shoffstall Funeral Home, Lakeview. Delena Mae VanVoorhis, 44, of Bellefontaine, passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2009 at the Cleveland Clinic.

She was born in Paintsville, Kentucky on January 2, 1965 to Harvey Jr. and Mae V. Spradlin Salyer. She is preceded in death by her father in 2004.

Survivors include her mother, Mae; her husband, Michael A. VanVoorhis, whom she married on January 25, 1992 in Bellefontaine, OH; a brother, Paul (Tiffany) Salyer of Urbana, OH; a sister Elizabeth Salyer of Bellefontaine; and several nieces, nephews and a great niece and nephew.

A manager for Community Market in Bellefontaine, Delena was a 1983 graduate of Bellefontaine High School and she enjoyed reading, babysitting and crafts.

Ellen Eileen “Susie” Darby, 87, of Belle Center passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at Logan Acres in Bellefontaine.

She was born on July 31, 1921 in Goshen Township, Auglaize County, OH to the late Grover Cleveland and Mary Alberta (Weatherby) Bowsher.

On June 7, 1941 she married John Melvin Darby in Huntsville, OH and he preceded her in death on September 26, 1998. She is also preceded in death by her brothers, Carl and Paul Bowsher.

Surviving is a daughter, Rosemary (Neale) Sanderson of Belle Center a brother, Nelson (Rhoda) Bowsher of Lima, OH; sisters, Betty Hutchinson of New Hampshire, OH and Donna (Don) Spencer of Lima, OH; granddaughters, Sherri Lynn (Carl) Grundy of Belle Center and Jennifer (Christopher) Patton of Bellefontaine; a great-granddaughter, Darby Rose Patton and several nieces and nephews.

A homemaker, Susie worked as an LPN at the Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine for five years and worked on the farm with her husband.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Roundhead and the Roundhead United Methodist Women. She enjoyed decorating cakes.

He was born on August 23, 1956, in Sidney, OH to Goldia Ratliff Francis of Russells Point and the late E. L. Francis. On November 12, 1999, he married the former Dori Barney in Tennessee and she survives.

He is also survived by a son; Shaun Craig, Fairborn, OH, grandson; Micah Craig, five sisters; Martha Hemmer, Bellefontaine, Mary Gullett, Russells Point, Linda (Richard) Kirkpatrick, Russells Point, Susan (Fred) Vagedes, Coldwater, OH, and Sally (Jim) Page, Bellefontaine, four brothers; Pat (Charlene) Francis, Russells Point, Don (Crystal) Francis, Sidney, Jim (Connie) Francis, Lewistown, and Edgle (Mary Lou) Francis, Sidney, and several nieces and nephews.

Luther was a 1975 graduate of Indian Lake High School and veteran of the United States Army. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and his Dalmatians.

Pastor Greg Haisley will conduct funeral services at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at Shoffstall Funeral Home, Lakeview with visitation from 4-7 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be given in his name to the Humane Society Serving Logan County.

Ruth Evelyn Tanger

Ruth Evelyn Tanger, 86, of Bellefontaine, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 10, 2009 at the Mary Rutan Hospital.

She was born in Logan County, Liberty Township on July 24, 1922 to the late Chester William and Gertrude Belle (Rotroff) Cooper. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Marion L. Tanger; a son, Robert Tanger; brothers, Richard and Ralph Cooper; and sisters, Juanita Detrick and Jane Stevenson.

Surviving are her sons, Russell (Bobi) Tanger of Glendale, AZ and Rick Tanger of Hoisington, KS; a daughter, Janet (James) Donnelly of Bellefontaine; sisters Margaret Jones of Port Clinton, Shirley Yoder of Goshen, IN and Caroline Neer of Bellefontaine; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and extended family and friends at Bob Evans.

After 31 years of service, Ruth retired from GMS in 2000. She was an active member of the First Church of God in Bellefontaine and enjoyed working in her home and her garden and walking the track at Blue Jacket Park.

Visitations will be on Friday, July 17, 2009 from 6 to 8 at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine. Pastor’s C.J. Plogger and Ray Headings will perform a funeral service at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine with one hour of visitation prior to the service.

Jacqueline S. Hunt

Jacqueline S. Hunt, 62, of Cuyahoga Falls passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2009 at 11:45 a.m. at her home.

She was born on December 19, 1946 in Springfield, Ohio, a daughter of the late Ernest Arnold Jr. and Beatrice Cline Arnold.

On April 29, 1967 she married Stephen G. Hunt and he died on July 1, 2002. She was also preceded in death by a son, Gregory A. Hunt.

Jacqueline was a clerk and was an avid reader who enjoyed working in her flower garden and especially spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter, Stacy Hunt of Akron; sons, Steve T. Hunt and Kevin (Lindsay) Hunt both of Cuyahoga Falls; 4 grandchildren, Mariah, Monet, Delaino and Destiny; sisters, Sondra (Jack) Pugh of Kasilof, Alaska, June Baker and her companion Robert Snell of Fife Lake, Michigan and Elly (John) Baughman of Hudson, Florida; many nieces and nephews and her best friend, Lin Yovanovich of Barberton, Ohio.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at 11 a.m. by Pastor Bryan Meadows at the Sanford-Eichholtz Funeral Home in Lakeview where friends may call on Monday, July 13, 2009 from 5 – 8 p.m. Burial will take place at Huntsville Cemetery, Huntsville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Summa.

Betty Wooten, 86, of West Liberty, passed away Wednesday, July 8th, 2009 at Heartland of Urbana.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 11th at 11 a.m. at United Methodist Church, West Liberty.

Jerome “Jerry” Edward Bettinger

Jerome “Jerry” Edward Bettinger, 78, of Zanesfield, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 4, 2009 in Duluth, MN. He was born in Dayton, OH on May 7, 1931 to the late Jerome W. and Leona E. (Dues) Bettinger.

On June 3, 2001, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 45 years, Patricia Dorsey, whom he married on August 20, 1955 in Sidney, OH. Also preceding him in death is a sister, Rita Mae DeGrood.

Jerry is survived by his second wife, Georgeann McNeil McGinnis Bettinger, whom he married on April 27, 2002 in Springfield, Ohio. Also surviving are two sons, John (Cindy) Bettinger of Ridgeway and James (Laura) Bettinger of Zanesfield; three daughters, Cathy (Kevin) Bell, Mary (Don) Jaunzemis and Barbara (Jon) Snyder all of Zanesfield; 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a step-son, Gary (Deb) McGinnis of Springfield; step-daughter, Cindy (Tom) Gastrich of Alaska; and a brother, Robert (Ruth) Bettinger of Apollo Beach, FL.

A farmer, Jerry worked for Super Foods. He was a United States Navy Veteran serving in the Korean War and was a member of the First Assembly of God Church and a life member of the Full Gospel Businessmen Association.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 am on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at the First Assembly of God with Pastor Mark Smith officiating. Family may receive friends starting at 10:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will be in the North Greenfield Cemetery in East Liberty following the service.

Family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Gideon’s International, P.O. Emma Jane Stiner

Emma Jane Stiner, 86, of Huntsville, Ohio passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2009 at 10:45 p.m. at Logan Acres, Bellefontaine, Ohio.

She was born February 7, 1923 in Sedalia, Ohio a daughter of the late Lawrence Hakes and Iva Thornton Hakes Thomas.

On November 2, 1940 she married Robert L. Stiner and he died on August 7, 1997. Also preceding her in death were a sister, Opal and three brothers, James, Golden and Leroy.

She was a homemaker and retired from Standard Oil in Toledo and had worked at Westinghouse in Lima. She was a member of the Indian Lake Community Church, Indian Lake Elks #2792 both of Russells Point, Indian Lake Moose #1533, Lakeview and was a trustee of Seminole Island Lot Owners Association. She frequented the Landing Restaurant.

She is survived by a daughter, Judie (Gene) Burnett of North Canton; a granddaughter Nicol Wendt and a great-granddaughter, Casey Marie both of Brimfield; sister, Freda (Forest) Barclay of South Charleston; a sister-in-law, Jan Thomas of Springfield and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine on Thursday, July 9, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Karen Blackburn officiating. Friends may call on Wednesday, July 8th from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine. Burial will take place in Huntsville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in care of the family to benefit the Indian Isles Christmas Lighting Association.

Bettie Jo Kerns

Bettie Jo Kerns, 83, of Bellefontaine, passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at Mary Rutan Hospital. She was born on April 15, 1926 in Delphos, OH to the late Ray and Emma (Blocberger) Wayner.

On February 17, 1945 she married Merlin R. Kerns in Wapakoneta, OH and he survives along with their sons, Greg A. (Carole) Kerns of Ft. Myers, FL and Steven Kerns of Bellefontaine; and five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Her brothers, Robert and Norman Wayner and a sister, Ruth Wendel precede her in death.

A 1944 graduate of Bloom High School in Wapakoneta, Bettie Jo was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Bellefontaine, Mary Rutan Hospital Guild and a substitute teacher at the Hi-Point Career Center. She owned and operated House of Flowers.

A memorial service will be at 10:30 am on Monday, July 6th at the First Lutheran Church in Bellefontaine.

Phillip Carl Ball

Phillip Carl Ball, 68, of Bellefontaine, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at his residence. He was in born in Logan County on July 19, 1940 to the late Michael Marion and Ida Mae (Benchoff) Ball.

On September 11, 1964 he married Darlene “Sue” Porter in Zanesfield, OH and she survives. Also surviving is a son, Phillip (April) Ball Jr. of New Carlisle, OH; daughters, Debbie Helmandollar and Candy (Paul) Powell both of Bellefontaine and Vicki (Tim) Spring of Lakeview; a step-daughter, Kim Minor of Idaho; brothers, Joe (Sue) Ball of Beavercreek, Robert (Sylvia) Ball of Purvis, MS, Frank (Bonnie) Ball of Marysville, and David (Faye) Ball of West Liberty; sisters, Alice Dye of Tucson, AZ, Nancy (Bill) Webber of Rockville, MD, Betty (Richard) Toomey of Piqua, and Mary (Dan) Addington of Marysville; 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death are 2 half brothers, Jack Parks and Marion Michael Ball.

A construction worker for Local #216 in Springfield, OH, Phillip was in the National Guards.

The Rev. A. W. Purdin will perform a funeral service at 7:30 pm on Friday, July 3rd at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine where visitations will be before the service from 1 to 4 and 6 to 7:30 pm. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 7th at the Huntsville Cemetery.
