Wilda Marie Forsythe

Wilda Marie Forsythe, 97, of Bellefontaine, passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at Logan Acres Care Center.

She was born on September 19, 1912 in Marion County to the late Clifford and Mary (Manley) Beaver.

On August 21, 1945 she married Elmer Forsythe in Marion, OH and he preceded her in death on March 17, 1982.  Also preceding her in death are two sons, Robert and Herschel E. Forsythe; two sisters, Clarabelle Walters and Leafa Gorenflow; one grandchild, great grandchild and great-great grandchild.

Surviving are two sons, Donald (Rose Ellen) Forsythe of Mechanicsburg and Roger Forsythe of Puyallup, WA; a daughter Carolyn (Darrell) Collins of Bellefontaine; 15 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 20 great-great grandchildren.

Wilda, a homemaker and a good cook who loved to cook big meals, was a graduate of Waldo High School in 1932 and was a member of the West Liberty United Church of Christ.

A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 am on Monday, October 5th at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine where friends may call from 2 to 5 on Sunday, October 4th.  Burial will be in the Huntsville Cemetery.

Donald E. “Don” Robinson

Donald Don Robinson 9-28-09 Donald E. “Don” Robinson, 70, of Belle Center, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2009 at the Lima Memorial Hospital.

He was born on November 3, 1938 in Clark County to the late George E. and Evelyn (Parkinson) Robinson.  On May 21, 1965 he married Carole A. Smith in Logan County and she preceded him in death on February 16, 2006.  Also preceding him in death are two brothers, Fred and Robert Robinson.

Surviving is a son, Rhandy E. (Amy) Robinson and a daughter, Beth A. (David) Garwood both of Belle Center; a sister Mary L. Schleve of Westerville; and two grandchildren, Dylan and Devin.

Don was a supervisor in manufacturing for Rockwell International in Bellefontaine and worked for several years at the United Technologies of Kenton.  He retired in 2007 from Scioto Industrial of Marysville.

He was an EMT for the BMRT Squad in Belle Center and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Rev. Kevin Smith will conduct a funeral service at 11:00 am on Thursday, October 1, 2009 at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Belle Center where visitations are scheduled for Wednesday, September 30, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8.  Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Belle Center.

William Howard Woodruff

\William Howard Woodruff, 89, of Zanesfield, passed away on Saturday, September 26th, 2009 at his residence.

He was born on April 16, 1920 in Champaign County to the late Owen and Edna (Wade) Woodruff.

On June 9, 1942, he married Betty Jane Keller in Bellefontaine and she preceded him in death on July 6, 2001. Also preceding him in death is a brother, Joe Woodruff and two sisters, Maxine Jurista and Margaret Woodruff.

Surviving are two sons, William “Bill” (Roxanne) Woodruff of Bellefontaine and Thomas J. Woodruff of Zanesfield; a sister, Miriam Phares of Springfield, OH; two grandchildren, Chad (Wendy) Woodruff of West Liberty and Cristen Woodruff of Bellefontaine; seven great grandchildren, Morgan Madison, Mason and Mackenzie Woodruff all of West Liberty, Jayden and Jordon Stiles and Jersey Pickering all of Bellefontaine.

A lifelong farmer, he attended the Pickrelltown Methodist Church.

Pastor Glen Gault will conduct a graveside service at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at the Zanesfield Cemetery.

Helen Patterson, 85, of Bellefontaine, passed away Wednesday, September 23rd at her residence.

Billy Maynard

Billy Maynard, 79, of Lakeview, OH, passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, OH.

He was born on October 16, 1929 in Kermit, WV to the late Carl and Ethel (Davis) Maynard.

In April of 1949 he married Lucille Quinn in Indiana and she preceded him in death in November of 1977.  Also preceding him in death is a sister, Betty Cunningham.

He married his second wife, Leona (Beegel) Hockett, on July 2, 1982 in Fountain Point, AZ and she survives.  Also surviving are two sons, Ronald (Julie) Maynard of New Carlisle, OH and Curtis Maynard of Scottsdale, AZ; one daughter, Linda (Mike) Downie of Troy, MI; two step-sons, Steven (Debbie) Hockett of Springfield, OH and Mike Hockett of Lakeview, OH; three step-daughters, Gwen (Rob) Robinson of Senecaville, OH, Sherry Brammer of Dayton, OH and Vicky (Dave) Leherbauer of Oshawa, Ontario, Canada; 3 sisters, Geneva (Bob) Clay of South Carolina, Clara Rose Williams of Crown Point, OH and Frieda (Gary) Clark of Florida; 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 25, 2009 at the Sanford-Eichholtz Funeral Home in Lakeview, OH with Rev. Randy Warner officiating.

Charles W. “Chuck” Weirick

Charles Weirick 9-23-09 Charles W. “Chuck” Weirick, 69, of Lakeview, OH, passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2009, at his home.

Chuck was born on November 20, 1939 in Mt. Vernon, OH, to the late George Weirick and Sylvia Fletcher McKenzie. He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Fred McKenzie. On March 18, 1974, he married the former Christine Buck in Russells Point, OH, and she survives.

He is also survived by two children: DeShawn Weirick of Toledo, OH, and Chad (Katie) Weirick of Newark, OH, a grandson: Kaleb Weirick of Lakeview, and a nephew: Ray Weirick.

Chuck was a graduate of Mansfield High School and served in the United States Air Force. He was a retired journeyman plumber and pipefitter for G.D. where he worked for 18 years, and owned and operated Green Valley Lawn & Landscaping for 25 years. He was a member of the Indian Lake Moose Lodge #1533, FOE Aeries # 3615, and Doyle R. Miller Amvets Post #39, all of Lakeview. He enjoyed spending time in his garage, designing landscaping, being a salesman, and jokester, and especially bragging about his “Little Buddy”, his grandson-Kaleb.

Pastor Rob Kilgore will conduct a memorial service at 7:00 p.m., Friday, September 25, 2009 at Shoffstall Funeral Home, Lakeview with visitation one hour prior.

Judith L. “Judy” Drummond

Judith Drummond 9-21-09 Judith L. “Judy” Drummond, 53, of Belle Center, OH, passed away Saturday morning, September 19, 2009, at OSU Medical Center, Columbus, OH.

She was born on June 27, 1956, in Englewood, OH to the late Harold and Evelyn Nelson Stachler. She was also preceded in death by a sister: Janice Wissinger.

She is survived by two daughters: Nichole Suttles, and Michelle (William) Drummond Grube, both of Lakeview, three grandchildren: Trevor Drummond, Evelyn Peterman, and Carter Grube, a brother: Gerome (Becky) Stachler, Russells Point, and life partner: Terry Tracey, Lakeview.

Judy enjoyed doing crafts and loved animals.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 25, 2009 at Walnut Hill Cemetery, New Hampshire, OH. Memorial contributions may be given to her family.

Thomas R. Gauthier

Thomas R. Gauthier, 69, of Russells Point, passed away at 1:07 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2009 at Mary Rutan Hospital, Bellefontaine, Ohio.

He was born on June 3, 1940 in Toledo, a son of the late Joseph and Ruth Wahler Gauthier. 

On September 30, 1961 he married the former Dolores “Toni” Snyder Gauthier in Dayton and she survives along with a son, Jeffrey Gauthier, Dayton; daughter, Tonya Hatton, Villa Hills, Kentucky; brother, Daniel (Virginia) Gauthier, Dayton; sister, Judy Vorhees, Las Vegas, Nevada; a grandson, Steven Hatton of Villa Hills, Kentucky and several nieces and nephews.

He was a sheet metal worker-journeyman for G.M. in Vandalia where he retired in 1997 after 34 years and a member of the Indian Lake Community Church, Western Ohio Scrollers Club in Sidney.  He also enjoyed woodcarving.

Pastor Karen Blackburn and Pastor Jim Ellington will conduct a memorial service at 11 a.m. Monday at the Indian Lake Community Church, Russells Point where friends may call from
10 – 11 a.m.

Josephine A. “Jo” Davis

Josephine Davis 9-11-09 Josephine A. “Jo” Davis, 92, of Lewistown, passed away at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2009 at Mary Rutan Hospital, Bellefontaine, Ohio.

She was born on February 14, 1917 in Logan County, a daughter of the late Edward and Ruth Holmes Mattox.  She was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Morris Davis; a brother, Bill Mattox; three sisters, Leona Cooper, Mary Thompson and Ruth Mattox; one grandson and one great-granddaughter.

On August 17, 1934 she married Roy M. Davis and after 62 years of marriage he preceded her in death on January 2, 1998.

Survivors include sons, William (Carol) Davis of Lewistown and Tom (Martha) Davis of Ft. Worth, Texas; daughters, Nancy Herren of Lima, Jennifer (Tom) Golden of Hampstead, North Carolina, Cinda (Rod) Sheldon of Streetsboro, Ohio and Mary Lou (Jim) Lange of Lewistown; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was a homemaker and a member of the First Church of God, Bellefontaine.  She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, going to the beach, sewing, painting, reading, hunting, fishing, Indian History and loved nature.

Pastor C.J. Plogger conducts a funeral at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14, 2009 at the First Church of God in Bellefontaine. Friends may call on Sunday from 2 – 6 p.m. in the Myron Van Horn Chapel of Sanford-Eichholtz Funeral Home, Lakeview.  Burial is in Greenwood-Union Cemetery, DeGraff.

Daniel K. Fry

Daniel Fry 9-8-09 Daniel K. Fry, 61, of Lakeview, OH went home to rest in the arms of the Lord on September 7, 2009, at the Dayton VA Hospital, after a long battle with cancer.

He was born on March 16, 1948, in Sidney, OH to the late George Bernard and Harriett Arlene Watkins Fry. On June 1, 1993, he married the former Connie S. Davis, and she survives.

Daniel is also survived by two sons: Robert (Debbie) Fry of Kenton, OH, Timothy Fry of Arlington, TX, a stepson: Christopher Cotterman of Colorado Springs, CO, three granddaughters, three grandsons, two brothers: Curtis Allen (Gina) Fry of DeGraff, OH, Chris Martin (Sharon) Fry of Bellefontaine, OH, a sister: Adelene Hope Saunders of Bellefontaine, OH, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Dawn Latisha Fry.

Daniel attended Bellefontaine High School, and enlisted in the Army National Guard out of Bellefontaine. Daniel then enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country during the Vietnam campaign. He was stationed aboard the USS Richard B. Anderson, which gave support to the aircraft carrier, The USS Hornet.

He was a Life Member of VFW Post # 4239, and member of American Legion Post # 217, both of Sidney, OH. He and his wife spent 17 years in Arizona and Colorado, working for the Intel Corporation. His health forced his retirement in 2005, due to disability. While in Colorado Springs, CO, he was an active member of the New Life Covenant Church. After returning to Ohio, in 2007, he attended the Indian Lake Community Church, Russells Point, OH. Daniel loved being outdoors to fish and work in his garden. He had a great love for all animals and enjoyed feeding birds, squirrels, and ducks at his home. He was an amazing artist, being able to work in oils, acrylics, pastels and charcoal. Through the years, he learned to play an assortment of musical instruments, and excelled at shooting pool. His great sense of humor will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

As per Daniel’s request, his body will be cremated. His cremated remains will be interred at Cedar Point Cemetery, Pasco, OH, where his mother and father are laid to rest. His family will have interment and a graveside memorial service at a later date.

Joan Lee Schultz

Joan Lee Schultz 9-8-09 Joan Lee Schultz, 84, of West Liberty, passed away on Friday, September 4, 2009 at the Green Hills Care Center in West Liberty.

She was born on June 25, 1925 in Defiance, OH to the late Lester and Irma (Tate) Ensign.  Also preceding her in death are two brothers.

On August 21, 1954 she married Ralph Schultz in Defiance and he survives along with a son, Stephen (Genie) Schultz of New Hyde Park, NY; two daughters, Susan (Robert) Kleine of Bowling Green and Sally (James) Robison of Radnor; and five grandchildren.

A member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Bellefontaine, she was active with the Gideon’s International.  She taught for 19 years for Bellefontaine City Schools.  She had an ardent interest in music, playing the piano and at one time, she was the church organist.  She also played the clarinet in the Logan County Community Concert Band for six years (1992 – 1997).

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, September 12, 2009 at the Calvary Baptist Church, Bellefontaine officiated by Rev. Kenneth J. Walter E. “Bud” Weidner

Walter E. “Bud” Weidner, 91, of Lakeview, OH, passed away Monday, September 7, 2009 at Mary Rutan Hospital.

Walt was born on January 9, 1918 in Dayton, OH to Walter & Margaret (Janning) Weidner. In addition to his parents and step-mother, Helen (Hilgeford) Weidner, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Elsie James Weidner, infant daughter, Margaret, son-in-law, Jerry Welch, one grandson, one great grandson, and one great granddaughter.

He is survived by his children, Walter (Adeline) Weidner of Iowa, LA, Michael (Jacqueline) Weidner of Beaver, OH, Mary Jo Welch of Crossville, TN, Nicholas (Judy) Weidner of Beavercreek, OH, Thomas (Linda) Weidner, of Virginia Beach, VA, and Patrick Weidner of Cedarville, OH, 13 Grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Walt was a mechanical engineer and retired from Price Brothers Company, Dayton, OH in 1982. His love of the outdoors was manifested in his dedication to scouting. He was Scout Master of Troop 235, St. Anthony Parish, Dayton, OH from1955 until 1962 and a scouting commissioner for many years. Due to his dedication and the many hours of hard work and self-sacrifice to implement the scouting program, he was awarded the Silver Beaver Award in 1962. A tribute to his service as a Scout Master was the gratitude of former scouts and assistant scout leaders. Many, who kept in touch over the years, always expressed their appreciation for the guidance and leadership he displayed.

Father Harold W. Kist will conduct a memorial mass at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 10, 2009 at St. Mary of the Woods Church, Russells Point, OH. A Gathering of Remembrance will be held Wednesday, September 9th from 6-8 p.m. at Shoffstall Funeral Home, Lakeview, OH. Interment of cremated remains will be at Huntsville Cemetery, Huntsville, OH.

Emmett “Kelly” Welch

Kelly Welch 9-7-09 Emmett “Kelly” Welch, 50, of Lewistown passed away Saturday, September 5, 2009 in the Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus.  He was born on November 17, 1958, the son of Emmett Welch Jr., who preceded him in death and Betty L. (Scott) Kinney, who survives in West Mansfield.

He is also survived by his wife, Bobbie Jo (Ashcraft), whom he married on August 15, 1987 in Bellefontaine; a son, Derek Welch and a daughter, Sheldon Welch, both at home; four brothers, David (Gerri) Welch of Zanesfield, Dan Welch of Milford Center, Mark (Laurie) Welch of Bellefontaine, and Jeremy Welch of Bellefontaine; three sisters, Roxanna (Dan) Abrams, Debbie (Bob) Keller of Bellefontaine, and Tammy (Ron Wilson) Welch of Bellefontaine; close friends, Gregg, Keith, Double, Jimmy, Tim, Johnson, and the Brother-in-Law Club and his dog Winslow.

He worked as a concrete finisher for Link Construction Group, Bellefontaine and was a member of the V.F.W. #1080, Bellefontaine.  He was an avid Cleveland Browns fan and enjoyed mushroom hunting, fishing, playing pool in the garage, Shady Bowl, cooking for friends and family on Sunday, hanging out with Winslow, and most of all, he loved being a father to Derek and Sheldon.

Barbara “Bobbi” Schneider

Barbara Schneider 9-5-09 Barbara “Bobbi” Schneider, 80, of 221 N. School Street, Bellefontaine, formerly of Russells Point, passed away at 11:40 a.m. on Friday, September 4, 2009 at Heartland of Bellefontaine, Bellefontaine, Ohio.

She was born on March 7, 1929 in Columbus, a daughter of the late Garland J. and Elizabeth Thompson Moore. 

On December 4, 1978 in Florida City, Florida she married the Walter Ray Schneider and he preceded her in death on April 11, 2004.

Survivors include a son, Michael (Patricia) McQuaid of Pensacola, Florida; a daughter, Vicki (Jim) Wolf, IV of Huntsville; a stepson: Steven Schneider of Slocomb, Alabama and a half-brother, Patrick Moore of Orlando, Florida; two grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Logan County Historical Society.

Donald “Bo” Westfall

Donald “Bo” Westfall, 60, of Bellefontaine, passed away at his residence on Friday, September 4, 2009.

He was born on April 28, 1949 in Logan County, OH to the late Donald and Mildred Louise (Chess) Westfall.

He married Kendra Plank on November 11, 1967 in West Liberty, Ohio and she survives along with a daughter, Dina Westfall,

Preceding him in death are his brothers, Jerry, Daryl and Eddie Westfall and a sister, Judy Blosser.

Bo owned and operated Westfall Sohio in West Liberty and retired from Honda on August 7, 2009.  He was a 1967 graduate of West Liberty High School, a member of the West Liberty Masonic Lodge and an avid Browns fan.  He and his wife were members of the “McDonald’s Office Group” that met at the McDonald’s restaurant.  They also enjoyed riding their Gold Wing Trike every available moment.

Visitations are scheduled for Tuesday, September 8th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 at the Kauffman-Eichholtz Funeral Home in West Liberty where the funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 9th.

Zelma Agnes Cooke

Zelma Agnes Cooke, 101, formerly of Belle Center, passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2009 at the Hardin Hills Health Center in Kenton.

She was born on October 2, 1907 in Crawfordsville, Iowa to the late James E. and Elizabeth (Scott) Cooke.  She is preceded in death by her brother, Roe Cooke and sisters, Frances Nadine Cooke, Zenaide Phillips and Dione Godwin-VanBuskirk.

Zelma is survived by her cousin, Mary Lu Meyer of Bellefontaine, whom was raised with Zelma and her family, and 17 nieces and nephews and many great nieces & nephews.

A 1926 Huntsville High School graduate and the Bliss Business College, Zelma worked as the office manager for Jennings-Lawrence Engineer Company in Columbus and also served on their Board.  She was a member of the Belle Center United Presbyterian Church and the Glenn-Echo Presbyterian Church in Columbus.  She was devoted Christian and loved her family.

Visitation is scheduled for Monday, September 7th from 2 to 5 at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Belle Center where the      Rev. Kathy Clark will conduct a funeral service at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 8th with a visitation one hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow in the Huntsville Cemetery.

Richard L. “Dick” Stephenson

Richard L. “Dick” Stephenson, 78, of Huntsville, passed away at 5:27 a.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2009 at Mary Rutan Hospital, Bellefontaine, Ohio.

He was born on March 5, 1931 in Logan County, a son of the late George C. and S. Pearl Allebaugh Stephenson. He was also preceded in death by a son, Keith Allen Stephenson; and a sister: Betty Schwing.

On February 8, 1951 he married the former Frances I. “Fran” Felmlee Stephenson in Indiana and she preceded him in death on July 17, 1996.

Survivors include a son, Jack M. Stephenson of Huntsville; two daughters, Gayle (Randy) Dietrick of Defiance, Ohio and Beth Stephenson of Richmond, Virginia; a sister, Mary Jane (Gary) Dean of Circleville; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was a farmer and had retired from Ohio B.E.S. He had attended Hopewell United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Huntsville Lions Club and former president of Pathfinder Half-Way House in Lima.

Tuny Hendricks, 80, of Bellefontaine, passed away Tuesday, September 1st, 2009, at Mary Rutan Hospital in  Bellefontaine.

Graveside services will be held Friday, September 4th at Highland Memorial Cemetery in West Liberty.

Kevin F. Jennings Funeral Home in West Liberty is handling the arrangements.

Irvin Dale "Slim" Alkire

Irvin Dale "Slim" Alkire, 85, of Lakeview, passed away at 3:45 a.m. on September 1, 2009 at Heartland of Indian Lake, Lakeview, Ohio.

He was born on August 11, 1924 in Putnam County, a son of the late Ralph and Mary Barto Alkire.  He was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Alkire and one sister, Marjorie Forbush.

On November 24, 1946 he married the former Alice K. Hamilton in Lima and she survives along with sons, Dale (Nancy) Alkire of Lima, David (Kathy) Alkire of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Gary (Maria) Alkire of Portage, Minnesota and Ronald (JoAnn) Alkire of Carey, Ohio; daughter, Kathleen (Wilbur) Earl of Cairo; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was an electrician at the I.B.E.W. and retired after 30 years from Reynolds Electric, Lima, Ohio.  He was a Navy Veteran of WWII, Past Commander of V.F.W. Post #8832, Roundhead, a member of the Doyle R. Miller AMVETS Post #39, Lakeview and a member of the I.B.E.W. of Lima.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 4, 2009 at 2 p.m. at the Sanford-Eichholtz Funeral Home with Pastor Rich Rakay officiating, Friends may call on Thursday, September 3, 2009 from 2 – 4 & 6 – 8 p.m. at the Myron Van Horn chapel of Sanford-Eichholtz Funeral Home. Burial will be at Highland Memorial Cemetery, West Liberty, Ohio with military rites by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Herbert E. Foreman

Herbert E. Foreman, 81, of West Liberty, passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at his residence.

He was born on April 25, 1928 in Logan County, OH to the late George Guy and Mary May (Hudson) Foreman.

On January 31, 1950 he married Phyllis M. Hudson in Angola, IN and she survives along with their children, Stephen (Kaylee) Foreman of West Liberty and William (Mary) Foreman and Pam (Bart) Floyd both of Bellefontaine; a sister, Shirley Turner of Delray Beach, Fl; a sister-in-law, Patricia (Warren) Bates of Lima; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death is a brother, George Foreman; three sisters, Mary L. Tarnawa, Martha Leech, and Sara Wolfe; and a great grandson, Cody Laird.

He proudly served his country in the 1st Army Calvary Occupation Forces in WWII in Japan.  He attended Miami University and Bowling Green University.  A farmer most of his life in Logan County, he retired from the Logan County Co-Operative Power and Light Co. after 36 years of service.

He was a long time manager and coach for the Youth Baseball in Zanesfield and was a member of the B.P.O.E. #132 for 25 years and held a position on the GISOC Board of Directors for many years.

Visitations will be from 4 to 8 on Thursday, September 3, 2009 at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine.  Pastor John James will conduct a private graveside service at a later date.
