Week 6 in high school football - Chiefs, Tigers 6-0 (Audio included)
10/03/2009
Our feature game on 98.3 WPKO saw a defensive battle until the last few minutes, when the fireworks erupted.
OHC top dogs West Liberty-Salem and Catholic Central squared off on the 98.3 WPKO game of the week, and it was a war of defensive attrition. The Tigers held on to a late 13-0 lead, only to see CC close it to 13-7 later in the fourth. The Irish then recovered an onside kickoff with less than a minute to play, and after a couple of seat-of-your-pants razzle dazzle plays, advanced to the Tiger 11-yard line with 3 seconds to play. The ensuing pass into the end zone failed, and the Tigers escaped with a 13-7 win and their undefeated record intact, moving to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the OHC, dropping CC to 3-3 (2-1).
Listen to Chad Wilkinson and JP's play-by-play of the exciting finish.
The other OHC-play undefeated team had Mechanicsburg, also now 3-0 in conference play and 4-2 overall, roll over Southeastern 34-13.

Tipp scored late to pull within 27-24, and then recovered an onside kick with four minutes left to play. Raiders head coach Jamie Hughes said, “We just seem to be struggling finding the back of the net here lately. We had a few very good opportunities in the first half with guys who would normally put the ball away but it just didn't happen for us. I give Coach Shoffstall and his team a lot of credit, they played very hard and did a great job putting just enough pressure on us to throw our shots off target. We just need to get back on track and believe we can turn this around. We have no time to rest as we have two more road games on Wednesday and Thursday and we'll be out there giving our best.”
The Bellefontaine varsity boys team lost to Tipp City 2-1 at Dodd Stadium.

Bellefontaine head coach Steve Henry commented, "Well, this is a heartbreaker! We played a great game, but they just kept attacking at the end and one slipped in late. I'm very proud of the way we went out to win this game from the beginning. They got a cheap goal early in the match, and our defense closed them out for almost the rest of the game. Our midfield played very smart and aggressive which helped our attack through the first 60 minutes. But we faded a little in the last 20 minutes, and they got stronger. If we played them 10 times, I think we could win half of them. It was a great match to be a part of."
