Bellefontaine Loses At Home To Tipp City

10/11/2009

In what was a most unusual week, Tipp City upset undefeated Bellefontaine 24-7 Sunday afternoon from Dodd Stadium. The game was postponed by officials Friday night when Tipp City reported upwards of 300 flu illnesses district-wide. The game was moved to Sunday afternoon.

Tipp City scored first after a their drive stalled inside Bellefontaine’s ten yard line. Red Devil kicker Kyle Pignatiello kicked a twenty-nine yard field goal.

Bellefontaine answered with a scoring drive of their own, capped off by a three yard touchdown run by Preaston Artis. Tipp City answered that when senior halfback Jake Budding broke off a twenty two yard touch down run to give Tipp City a 10-7 halftime lead.

After a scoreless third quarter, Tipp City was driving deep in Bellefontaine territory. Quarterback Ryan Landwehr converted a third and long with a long completion to halfback Daniel Strawser. Bellefontaine’s defense then forced Tipp City into a fourth and less than a yard situation at the Chieftain seventeen yard line. After calling a time out, The Red Devils elected to pitch outside to Budding who raced around the left side for a seventeen yard touchdown. With just over five minutes left, Tipp City led 17-7.

Bellefontaine went four and out on their next possession, electing to go for a long pass on fourth and long. A pass down to the middle was incomplete intended for TJ Garman.

Tipp City clinched the game minutes later when Budding scored his third touchdown of the afternoon from nine yards out.

Bellefontaine (6-1, 1-1) failed to convert a first down in the second half. The Chiefs were led offensively by Justin Baughman, who carried the ball fourteen times for eighty two yards. Defensively, Ethan Smith recorded two sacks and Taylor Cayot had an interception.  Bellefontaine heads to Kenton Ridge Friday night. The game can be heard on 1390 WBLL and online at peakofohio.com. The pregame show starts at 6:30.

Tipp City (6-1, 2-0) were led by Budding, who rushed for 118 yards and three touchdowns, and Landwehr who passed for 139 yards.
