Strong 2nd Quarter Propels Lakers over Pirates

Indian Lake used a 17-1 run at the end of the first half to knock off Riverside Saturday night 52-43 in girls basketball on Mix 98.3 WPKO. The Pirates led early thanks to Amelia Carter scoring the first 11 points. Then about at the midway point of the second quarter with the Pirates leading 16-13 the Lakers turned up the pressure and seized control on their home floor. The Lakers created turnovers and turned them in to points and pushed ahead 30-17 at the half.
The Lakers would come out in the third quarter and hit a quick three that put the Pirates down by 16. A few minutes later the Lakers would increase it to 18 and Riverside called a timeout. Out of the break the Pirates put a 7-0 run together and closed the gap. Indian Lake would lead by 12 entering the final frame 40-28.
The Pirates had life as they would chip away and eventually get the Lakers lead down to single digits. Sadie Oyer would step up for the Lakers and make some big plays down the stretch, but the Pirates still fought back and only trailed by 5 with just over a minute left. Indian Lake used ball control and hit free throws to ice the game and secure their 9th win of the season.
Sadie Oyer led the Lakers attach with 17 points (many of those in the second half) with Christina Knief chipping in 9.
Amelia Carter was the leading scorer for Riverside with 18 (11 in the first quarter). The Lakers made it their mission the limit Carter’s touches after the first quarter and kept her quiet until the final minutes of the game.
The Lakers are now 9-1 on the season while Riverside falls to 4-5.

Indian Lake girls power over Tecumseh; basketball scoreboard

The Indian Lake girls basketball team defeated Tecumseh Wednesday night in a blowout, 59-26.
Katelyn Stannard and Sadie Oyer both led the team with 11 points, and Oyer contributed 11 rebounds. Varsity is now 8-1 on the season.
The JV also defeated Tecumseh, 40-36 and are now 6-3.
The girls play next at home on Saturday against Riverside.
The Benjamin Logan Lady Raiders fell to Kenton Ridge Wednesday night, 69-45. Sara Yoder led the Raiders with 15 points.
The girls are now 3-6 overall and 2-5 in the CBC.
The JV girls defeated the Cougars, 51-46. Carli Henman led the team with 15 points.
The Riverside girls lost in a close game against Ross High School, 57-52.
Amelia Carter led the Lady Pirates with 22 points.
The JV girls were also defeated, 30-28, led by Ashley Jones with 16 points.
The Riverside boys were also defeated Wednesday night, by Hamilton High School, 54-50.
Kyle Baughman led the Pirates with 15 points.
Bellefontaine boys blast past Northwestern; local basketball scoreboard

The Bellefontaine Chieftains took on the Northwestern Warriors Tuesday night at home on 1390 WBLL, winning easily, 70-48.
Que Carter led the Chiefs with 17 points, followed by Michael Bean with 14.

The Chieftains are now 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the CBC. They play next in the New Year on January 8 at Dayton-Stebbins.
The West Liberty-Salem boys were also in action, defeating Cedarville 61-55.
Jarred Merrick led the Tigers with 22 points. West Liberty is now 3-4 overall and 3-2 in the OHC.
The JV also defeated Cedarville, 67-25.
Travis Mayse led the team with 19 points. The JV is now 6-1 overall and 4-1 in league play.
The Tigers next play on January 5 at Greeneview.
The Benjamin Logan boys weren’t as lucky as the Tigers and Chiefs. They fell to Kenton Ridge Tuesday night, 60-42.
Eric Olson led the Raiders with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
The JV also lost, 48-24, led by Jordan Sosby with 9 points. The freshman also lost 60-17.
Also on Tuesday night, Indian Lake’s boys fell to Tecumseh, 51-35.
Justin Castle led the Lakers with 11 points.
The JV Lakers also fell to Tecumseh, 93-35.
West Liberty girls basketball nets a win against Cedarville

The West Liberty-Salem girls basketball team took on Cedarville Monday night, putting a notch in the win column, 51-34.
Becka Peterson had a double-double, leading the Tigers with 18 points and 14 rebounds.
The Tigers are now 5-4 overall and 4-1 in the OHC.
The JV also took the win over Cedarville, 50-25.
Kelsey Helms led the JV with 21, followed by Kaycee Daniels with 12 and Maria Daulton with 11. The JV is now 7-1 overall and 5-0 in the OHC.
The ladies are off until January 7 when they travel to Northwestern.
