In girls U11 indoor soccer, the Bellefontaine Renegades tied Grove City 5-5 last night at Soccer First.

Madelyn Levine, Kateline Mathews, Taylor Price, and Brooke Parker scored.

Teammates Katie Harman and Lilli Levan played well.

Chiefs, Tigers earn wins in varsity bowling

Bellefontaine’s varsity bowling teams split with Urbana Thursday night. The boy’s team edged the Hillclimbers by a final tally of 2569-2516.

Ethan Lucas rolled a 221 game on his way to a 397 series, Andy Newman bowled a 216 game, a 379 series, Mark Salmons bowled a 201 game and T.J.Garman added a 192 game.

The Chiefs’ girl’s team lost an equally competitive match by a final count of 2250-2194.

Jessi Moore rolled a 176 game, a 336 series to pace the Chiefs. Jascey Vermillion totaled a 316 series, Carley King bowled a 181 game and Jody White added a 171 game.

Bellefontaine’s JV girl’s team defeated Urbana 1646-1360 Thursday night. Bethany Cruce rolled a 141 game en route to a 276 series, Sabreena Escamilla rolled a 138 game and Morgan Henry added a 134 game in the win.

The West Liberty-Salem boy’s varsity bowling team defeated Greeneview 2343-2200 Thursday night.

High rollers for the Tigers were Steven Klingler with a 245, 401 series, Ryan Tilson with a 198, 329 series, Pat McMaken rolled a 181, 345 series and Ross Burden with his season-high 180, 341 series.

WLS girls beat Greeneview as well, 2036 pins to 1713.

Leading the Tigers were Morgan Miller with a 200 game, 362 series, Cheyenne McNutt with a 170, 312 series and Brittney Lewis with a 170, 282 series.

Lady Pirates and Lady Tigers earn key league wins – Basketball scoreboard

Many local basketball teams hit the court for league games Thursday night.

In varsity girls, Riverside clinched at least a share of the NWCC title by defeating host Fairbanks 50-32.

The Pirates seized control by outscoring the Panthers 11-3 in the second quarter.

Senior Amelia Carter had 18 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 blocks.

Teammate Brittany Shough added 9 points.

Riverside improves to 10-7 overall and 5-0 in league play. They can clinch an outright league title with a win over Marion Catholic next Saturday.

The JV Pirates won 35-25.

Christine Longbrake and Cherish Lauderback had 10 points apiece.

The West Liberty-Salem varsity girls used a big second half to beat host Cedarville 52-30.

After trailing 23-22, the Tigers outscored the Indians 30-7 in the second half.

Becka Peterson had another outstanding game with 30 points and 13 rebounds.

WLS is 12-6 overall and 10-2 in the OHC.

In JV action, the Tigers handled the Indians 46-17.

Kelsey Helms had 14 points and Miranda Wallace added 10.

The JV Tigers are 16-2 overall and 11-1 in league play.

Jr. High finals:

The Bellefontaine 8th grade girls team sprinted past Northridge 46-25.

Jazmyn Haley had 12 points, Jordan Lininger fired in 9 points, and Kameren Haley added 8 points.

The Bellefontaine 7th grade girls fell to Northridge 39-25.

Brenda Johnson scored 11 points.

The Benjamin Logan 8th grade girls team edged host Urbana 46-44 in overtime.

Emmalee Rumney scored as time expired to send the game into overtime.

Alex Thompson scored the game-winning basket as the final buzzer sounded in overtime.

Rumney led all scorers with 21 points, 9 assists, and 7 steals.

Alex Thompson recorded 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Julie Melvin had 6 points and Taylor Quay added 5 points.

The Raiders are 8-6, the Hillclimbers are 12-2.

The Benjamin Logan 7th grade girls lost to Urbana 40-17.

Jessica Sosby had 12 points and Taylor Miller grabbed 6 rebounds.

The Bellefontaine 8th grade boys team handled Northridge 57-35.

Cam Henry and Jarrod Houchin each scored 18 points.

The team heads into tournament play with a 10-4 record.

The Benjamin Logan 8th grade boys team fell to Urbana 42-34.

David Wenger had 14 points and 5 rebounds, Austin Ahle tallied 10 points and 8 rebounds, Kyler Young tossed in 5 points, and Dalton Green added 3 points.

The Raiders will visit Indian Lake on Tuesday.

The Benjamin Logan 7th grade boys team lost to Urbana 34-28.

Tanner Rader had 12 points and 4 rebounds, Joel Spatz tallied 7 points and 8 rebounds, and David Nease added 6 points and 4 rebounds.

The Buckeye Hilliker Swimmers post impressive finishes

The Buckeye Hilliker Swim Team recently competed at the Marysville Invitational.

Posting top-10 finishes in multiple events and contributing top points for the Hilliker team was Jessica Miller in the 13-14 age group, Skyler Tavenner in the 11-12 age group, Connor Hall in the 9-10 age group and Macy Arn in the 7-8 age group.

Other swimmers who placed in the top-10 in one or more events include: Amy Fulmer, Emily Fulmer, Jordan Hall, Peyton Kinney, Anna Louden and Shelby Starkey.

This weekend the Buckeye Hilliker Swim Team will host the Winter Splash Invitational that will take place on Saturday and Sunday at the Hilliker YMCA.

IMG_7654 The Bellefontaine Lady Chieftains basketball team is saying “good-bye” to two seniors this year, honoring them before their last home game against Graham Wednesday night.

Seniors Kara Morrison and Dominique “Moo Moo” Brown were showered with balloons and gifts from fellow players after walking the court with their parents.

Morrison plans on attending Cedarville University, majoring in either nursing or education. She also plans on playing softball at college.

Beginning the game the Chieftains kept up with the Falcons, ending the first quarter down by just 3 points.

But, the ladies ended up making the score margin bigger by the end of the game, losing to Graham, 65-50.

Head coach Tony Cianciolo said that he was happy with the balanced scoring between the girls. Leading the Chieftains were Whitney Rader with 13 points, and Paige Newlon and Aaliyah Smith each contributed 12.

The Chieftains are now 3-14 on the season and head to Dayton Stebbins on Saturday.

Christina Knief scored 17 points.

Sadie Oyer tallied 14 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 blocks.

Both teams are 14-3 overall.

The JV Lakers lost 52-38.

Brittany Roby scored 15 points.

Indian Lake will visit Benjamin Logan Saturday night.

Benjamin Logan rallied past host Dayton Stebbins 64-51.

The Raiders outscored the Indians 20-3 in the fourth quarter.

Samantha Terrill led the attack with 22 points and 9 rebounds, Sarah Yoder had 15 points and 4 assists, and Jessica Yoder added 12 points.

The Raiders improve to 6-11, 5-8.

The JV Raiders won 49-35.

Brooklyn Terrill had 17 points and Ciarra Wirick and Marissa Wilbur each added 12.

Bellefontaine’s bowling teams faced off against Dayton Stebbins Wednesday night, struggling in most of their matches.

The varsity boys lost, 2643 to 2429.

The reserve boys also lost to Stebbins, 1964 to 1872.

Benjamin Logan Middle School basketball teams have a rough night against Tipp

The Benjamin Logan Middle School basketball teams were in action against Tippecanoe Wednesday night.

The 8th grade girls fell 31-25 against the 12-1 Tipp. Emmalee Rumney scored 10, and Alex Thompson scored 9 to lead the Raiders.

The 7th grade girls lost as well, 41-14. Jessica Sosby led the Raiders with 7 points an dJessica Current added 5.

The ladies close their regular season Thursday at Urbana, with tip-off at 5:30.

The 7th grade boys rounded out the rough night for the Raiders, losing 41-24.

Tanner Rader led the Raiders with 14 points, followed by David Nease with 4.

The loss drops Ben Logan’s record to 5-7. The boys host Urbana Thursday at 5:30.

Chiefs have win streak snapped by Falcons

2/02/2010

As heard Tuesday night on WBLL Bellefontaine’s boy’s varsity basketball team had its four-game win streak snapped at Graham by a final score of 52-41.

The defeat drops the Chiefs to 9-6 overall and 7-5 in conference play.

Que Carter led the Chiefs with 10 points. Nate Dodds and Zach Showalter each added eight points in the loss.

With the victory, the Falcons improve to 13-3 overall and 11-1 in conference play. Graham was led by senior Nick VanHoose who scored a game-high 17 points and was named the State Farm Player of the Game. Teammate Casey Crable added 13.

The deficit was just a single point for the Chiefs. at the end of one quarter, but Graham spent the first six minutes of the second stanza on a an 8-0 run, building a nine-point advantage it would not relinquish.

Bellefontaine would make a run after halftime, but six points was all the closer the game would get before another Falcons scoring spurt pushed the lead to 15 at the end of the third quarter.

Jarred Merrick led the attack with 27 points, Andy Daulton recorded 12 points, and Sean King grabbed 11 rebounds.

The Tigers improve to 6-9 overall and 4-6 in the OHC.

The JV Tigers beat the Jets 38-27.

Grant Burden scored 15 points.

Chiefs bowling teams sweep Shawnee; WLS splits with Northeastern

Bellefontaine’s boy’s and girl’s varsity bowling teams earned victories over Shawnee Tuesday night.

The boy’s team defeated Shawnee by a final tally of 2588-2184. T.J. Garman led the Chiefs, bowling 213 and 209 games, totaling a 422 series. Ethan Lucas rolled 202 and 205 games for a 407 series, Roman Miller added games of 222 and 182 for a 404 series and Andy Newman and Mark Salmons each bowled 187 games.

Incredibly, the JV boys tied with Shawnee 1916-1916. Trent Nicholl rolled 183 and 153 games for a 336 series, Mason Yocum bowled a 177 game and Grant Brugler rolled a 168 game.

Bellefontaine’s girl’s team defeated Shawnee by a final score of 2174-2018. Jessi Moore bowled a 185 game, totaling a 355 series. Jody White rolled a 177 game, 318 series, Jascey Vermillion added a 293 series and Caiti McLaughlin bowled a 180 game.

Other varsity bowling action from Tuesday night saw Northeastern beat West Liberty Salem 2042 pins to 1348 pins.

High scores for WLS go to Pat McMaken with a 182, 289 series, and to Steven Klingler with a 165, 287 series.

High scores for Northeastern were Tanner Miller with a 192, 332 series, and John Hollingshead with a 192, 302 series.

The Lady Tigers varsity bowling team avenged the boy’s loss, defeating Northeastern 1794-1549.

High scores for WLS go to Morgan Miller with a 145, 279 series, and Codi McNutt with a 144, 287 series. 

Northeastern was led by Carly Sparrows with a 168, 271 series, and Bethany Paulsen with a 139, a 238 series.

West Liberty defeated Northeastern in the girl’s JV match as well, 1558 pins to 1229 pins.

High scores for WLS go to Katie Burden with a 147, 282 series, and Janessa Huffman with a 136,  262 series. 

Razz-M-Tazz earns top billing at recent competition

The All Star Cheer represented Razz-M-Tazz quite well in the Jonathan Alder Cheer and Dance Competition last Saturday.

The RMT Cheer Team posted a first-place finish in the competition.

Team members include: Reagin Anderson, Khierstyn Branan, Abby Clay, Paige Corbett, Ally Dickenson, Kierstin Diener, Grace Grant, Katie Hartsel, Megan Huffman, Jazlyn Logdon, Johnna Putt, Kayla Stafford, Catarina Stevens, Chelsea Thompson, and Stacey Turner.

The girls are coached by Emily Core and Kathy Watkins.

Razz-M-Tazz will be hosting a dance/twirling competition at Indian Lake Middle School on Saturday, March 20th.

Anna outscores Riverside, busy Monday for middle school basketball

The Riverside Lady Pirates hosted Anna Monday night in non-league basketball.

The Rockets used a fast start to defeat the Pirates 72-57; Anna led 23-12 after the opening quarter.

Leading the Pirates were Erica Snapp with 22 points and Amelia Carter with 20.

Carrie Watkins paced Anna with 18.

Riverside is 9-7 overall.

The JV Pirates fell 54-39.

Ashley Jones poured in 16 points.

Monday night was a busy one for area middle school basketball teams.

The Bellefontaine and Indian Lake girls faced off, splitting the 7th and 8th grade games.

Bellefontaine took the 7th grade game 35-26. Brenda Johnson led the Chiefs with 18 points, followed by McKenzie Brunswick with 11.

Leading the Lakers were Taylor Dixon with 10 points and Sydney Miller with 8.

The Lakers came out on top in the 8th grade game 33-21.

Allison Knief led the Lakers with 14 points, followed by Haley Boberg with 8.

Leading the Chieftains were Kameren Haley with 8 points and Jordan Lininger and Alivia Wilson both had 4.

In boys action, Bellefontaine’s 8th graders defeated Indian Lake 48-34.

Jarrod Houchin had 19 points along with Cam Henry’s 11.

The Chiefs are now 9-4 on the year and finish out the regular season Thursday night at Northridge.

The 7th grade Chiefs edged the Lakers 39-35.

Dorian Hughes had 9 points and Matt Entsminger added 8 points.

The Chiefs improve to 11-2.

The West Liberty-Salem Middle School boys were also in action, splitting with Greeneview.

The 7th grade Tigers won 28-16. Conner Woods and Cole Wilson each scored 8 points and Ben Burden added 5.

WLS is 12-1.

The 8th grade Tigers (10-3) lost 29-26. David Branham led the Tigers with 13 points and Kyle Crawford added 6.

West Liberty-Salem travels to Miamiview on Thursday.

The Benjamin Logan 8th grade boys team beat Northwestern 46-40.

Kyler Young and Parker Codora each scored 12 points.

David Wenger and Austin Ahle had 9 points apiece.

Benjamin Logan’s 7th grade boys edged Northwestern 33-29. Tanner Rader led the Raiders with 16 points and 5 rebounds, followed by Joel Spatz with 7 points.

The Raiders are now 5-6 and travel to Tipp City on Wednesday.

The Benjamin Logan 8th grade girls team handled Northwestern 35-20.

Emmalee Rumney had a team-high 12 points.

Kacie Oswalt and Alex Thompson each added 6 points.

The Lady Raiders 7th grade team defeated Northwestern as well on Monday night for their 4th win of the season, 32-19.

Kessie Rose led the Raiders with 9 rebounds and scored 4 points and Taylor Miller had 6. 

The Lady Raiders return to the hardwood Wednesday night to take on Tipp City. Game time is set for 5:30.

Laker cheerleaders win weekend competition

The Indian Lake High School cheerleaders competed Sunday at Wright State University in the C.O.A. Raider Championship.

The Lakers took 1st place in the Spiritleader Division. Members of the squad are Katey Headley, Morgan Boswell, Haley Bray, Maci Brunk, Sammie Green, Kayla Hamilton, Megan Kelly, Patti Haas, Peggie Haas, Jaime Shouse, Evelyn Travis, and Angel Dever.

The team is coached by Robin Tominello and Jennifer Ramsey.

The Lakers next competition will be Sunday, February 21st in New Concord, Ohio.

Five Chiefs place at Benjamin Logan Invitational

The Bellefontaine varsity wrestling team competed at the Benjamin Logan Invitational on Saturday.

Five Chieftain wrestlers finished on the awards stand.

Leading the way was 112-pound sophomore Johnny Maurice, who earned his fourth championship this season.

Freshman 103-pound Thoryn Jackson finished in fourth place.

Junior 135-pound Michael Prater, senior 160-pound Greg Huffman, and junior 215-pound Cheyenne Coyer finished in fifth place.

The Chiefs are back in action at home Thursday against West Liberty-Salem at 5:30.

Davis, Cline lead Elite to weekend tie (Pictures included)

Connor Davis photo against Worthington from 1-30-10 The LCS Elite U13 boys team stayed undefeated Saturday at Soccer First in Dublin with a 9-9 tie vs. the Worthington Crew Jr. Black.

Leading the pace for a first half lead for LCS Elite were two local standouts from Indian Lake, 6th grader Connor Davis (pictured left with ball) and 8th grader Dylan Cline (pictured below with ball).

Davis started the game off with three goals and Cline scored two goals for a 5-3 lead at half.

The Crew came back strong in the second half and scored six straight goals to take a 9-5 lead.

Indian Lake 7th grader Tyler Rode had a standout first half at the keeper position while Marysville's Jordan Payne had many assists.

Tigers indoor track team shines at weekend meet

The West Liberty-Salem indoor track and field team participated in the Bowling Green State University Sid Sink High School Meet at Perry Field House on Sunday. Over 20 schools and track clubs from Ohio and Michigan participated.

Placing in the top 8 for the Tigers were the girls 4x800 relay team of Meghan Vogel, Savanna Shipp, Erica Cooper and Sarah Murphy with a 5th place finish. Austin Wilson placed 7th in the long jump and Meghan Vogel placed 6th in the 1600 meter run.

WLS will compete at The Ohio State University High School meet on Saturday, February 20th.

Chiefs and Tigers post impressive wins – Girl’s basketball scoreboard

The Bellefontaine Lady Chiefs defeated Tecumseh 52-41, avenging an earlier road loss.

Whitney Rader led the Chiefs with 15 points and 17 rebounds. Aaliyah Smith added 14 points with 6 boards, Regan Price 10 points, Kara Morrison 7 points, and Dominique Brown 5 points with 7 rebounds.

Bellefontaine is 3-13 overall. Their final home game of the season and Senior Night for Dominique Brown and Kara Morrison will be Wednesday against Graham.

The West Liberty-Salem Lady Tigers rolled over Mechanicsburg 61-31.

Becka Peterson was on fire, with a career-high 32 points to go along with 17 rebounds. Kayla Peterson added 9 points in the win.

The Tigers are 11-6 overall and tied for first in the OHC at 9-2.

The Tigers doubled up Mechanicsburg in the JV game 44-22.

Kelsey Helms was top scorer with 18 points. The JV Tigers are 15-2 overall and 10-1 in conference play.

The Benjamin Logan Lady Raiders fell at Northwestern 51-49.

Sarah Yoder had 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. Jessica Yoder also scored 15, and Samantha Terrill had 10 points, 5 boards, and 4 assists.

Northwestern also won the JV contest over Benjamin Logan by a score of 51-45.

Brooklyn Terrill was high scorer with 13 points, followed by Ciarra Wirick with 11.

Benjamin Logan goes on the road against Stebbins Wednesday.

Jackson Center romped over Lima Perry 55-38 to improve to 9-7.

Junior guard Taylor Cummons had a game-high 24 points for Jackson Center.

The Bellefontaine Jr. High teams each posted identical 34-29 wins over Fairbanks.

Kameren Haley scored 13 for the 8th grade. Jazmyn Haley tallied 7 points.

The 8th grade Chiefs are now 7-5.

Brenda Johnson led the 7th grade with 11 points, followed by Kenzie Brunswick with 10.

The 7th graders evened their record up at 6-6.

The 8th grade West Liberty-Salem Lady Tigers pounded Cedarville 37-4. They are now 9-4.

Rachel Loffing was top scorer with 14 points. Taylor Day contributed 7 points and Kaylin Frederick 6.

The 7th grade Tigers came from behind to beat Cedarville 16-14. They are now 7-6.

Rachel Ritter had 5 points and 4 rebounds, along with Mia Walters and Kylee Hormann 4 each.

The Jr. Lady Tigeers wrap up their regular season Monday against Greeneview.

The Riverside Pirates came up short against host Fairlawn by a score of 76-65.

Sophomore Kyle Hurley poured in 22 points for the Pirates. Kyle Baughman added 14 and Eric Egbert 12 for Riverside.

Riverside is 7-9 overall and 5-0 in the NWCC.

Fairlawn won the JV game 71-37.

The Bellefontaine 8th grade outscored Fairbanks 7-0 over the final minute and a half to win 46-44.

Leading the comeback was Jarrod Houchin with 13 points, A.J. Gorham with 9 steals, and Nick Heydinger with 12 rebounds.

The 8th grade Chiefs are 8-4.

Bellefontaine’s 7th graders rolled 49-34 over Fairbanks.

Logan Mitchell led with 13 points. Daniel Boy, Matt Ensminger, Tre Price, and Dorian Hughes each scored 6 points.

The 7th grade Chiefs are 10-2.

The Jr. Chieftains face Indian Lake on Monday.

West Liberty-Salem’s Jr. High teams both prevailed against Cedarville.

The 8th grade Tigers won 36-16.
