Chiefs pull away from Indians; Lakers run past Raiders – Basketball Scoreboard (Audio and picture included)

IMG_8028 As featured Friday on WBLL, Bellefontaine’s boys varsity basketball team pulled away from Dayton Stebbins by a final score of 64-41.

The victory improves Bellefontaine’s overall record to 10-6 (8-5 in the CBC).

Que Carter and Michael Bean led the way for the Chiefs, each scoring 14 points. Chris Lowe added 12 in the win.

The Indians were led by Quinnton Fuller, who scored a game-high 17. Stebbins is in action Tuesday at Kenton Ridge.

The Chiefs will host Marysville Saturday in a rare afternoon matinee. The junior varsity game is scheduled for a 2:00 start at Bellefontaine High School.

Lakers Use Strong Second Half to Beat Raiders

It was a low scoring game at Indian Lake High School as the Lakers hosted the Raiders on Mix 98.3 WPKO.

Indian Lake took an early lead at 6-3 at the end of the first quarter.  Benjamin Logan scored the first seven points of the second quarter taking a 10-6 lead.  The Lakers went almost four minutes in the second quarter before scoring a point.  Indian Lake then came back to grab the lead at 13-12.  Then Benjamin Logan scored a bucket to regain the lead at 14-13 in the final minute of the half.  Indian Lake would have the ball last before halftime and make the most of it scoring a hoop with less than 2 seconds remaining to grab a 15-14 halftime lead.

Neither team was scorching the nets in the first half as Benjamin Logan only scored 2 field goals and Indian Lake had 5 field goals at the break.

The third quarter saw the Lakers come out firing with senior Justin Castle connecting on three 3-pointers and the Lakers rushing to a 11 point lead.  The third quarter really was the difference in the game as Indian Lake outscored Benjamin Logan in the third 16-6.

It was a back-and-forth fourth quarter and when the final buzzer sounded Indian Lake had a 49-37 victory over their league rivals on senior night.

Justin Castle led the way for the Lakers, scoring a game-high 20; he was the State Farm Insurance Player of the Game. Adam Reichert added nine points for the Lakers. Ross Jenkins and Russ Hogue each added eight.

Indian Lake connected on 20-27 free-throw attempts, propelling them to victory.

Collin Pucket and Shane Wilbur. led the way for Benjamin Logan, scoring eight points a piece. Zach Wirick and Matt Cira each added five points in the defeat.

Indian Lake is now 5-12 on the season while Benjamin Logan falls to 2-15.

Both teams will now prepare for the Division II Tournament draw this weekend with the Sectional to be played at a new location this year.  This year’s new site will be Springfield High School.

Benjamin Logan won the JV game 43-27.

Other finals:

Riverside fell to visiting Fairbanks 64-54.

The Panthers started fast and led 33-24 at the half.

For Riverside, Kyle Baughman had 17 points, 10 rebounds, and two blocks.

Teammates Kyle Hurley and Eric Egbert each added 15.

The Pirates suffered their first league loss.

Riverside and Lima Temple Christian are tied for the league lead at 5-1 in the NWCC.

The Pirates are 7-10 overall. They will visit Houston on Tuesday.

Host West Liberty-Salem fell to Greeneview 57-37.

Jarred Merrick paced the Tigers with 8 points and Andy Daulton added 7 points.

WLS is 6-10 overall and 4-7 in the OHC.

The JV Tigers won 46-37.

Grant Burden scored 14 points and Ryan Meister dropped in 10.

They improve to 15-1, 10-1.

The Tigers next game is Saturday at Springfield Catholic.

Tecumseh stifled Springfield Shawnee 61-49.

The Arrows lead the CBC Kenton Trail division at 10-2.

Tipp City outscored Kenton Ridge 95-87 in double overtime.

The Cougars defeated the Red Devils in overtime last month.

Graham beat visiting Urbana 62-48.

The Falcons (15-3, 13-1) have not lost a home game in over three years.

Northwestern edged Greenon 68-64.

Triad handled Northeastern 75-54.

Southeastern knocked off Mechanicsburg 58-46.

Springfield Catholic defeated Cedarville 56-47.

Upper Scioto Valley downed Ridgemont 58-50.

Lima Temple Christian steamrolled Marion Catholic 75-45.

Lima Perry defeated visiting Waynesfield-Goshen 67-56.

Anna beat Houston 62-54.

Russia held off Jackson Center 35-26.

Lima Shawnee edged Wapakoneta 51-45.

St. Henry defeated rival Coldwater 49-42.

Trotwood-Madison outscored Sidney 78-55.

Troy cruised past Piqua 81-45.

Ft. Recovery handled Marion Local 60-40.

Jr. High:

The Benjamin Logan 8th grade girls team won their first round CBC tournament game Friday by defeating Northwestern 26-18.

Taylor Quay and Emmalee Rumney each scored eight points.

The Raiders (9-6) will play at Urbana Monday at 6:00 at the high school gym.

Renegades roll in youth soccer

In girls U11 indoor soccer, the Bellefontaine Renegades defeated Team Ohio FC 8-1 last night.

Breanne Parker, Madelyn Levine, Taylor Price, Zoe Price, Abby Godwin, and Brooke Parker scored goals.

Teammates Raihn Wrocklage and Madison Everman played well.

Indian Lake splits with Tipp City, Lady Chiefs rally past Urbana – Basketball scoreboard

The Indian Lake girls split games with visiting Tipp City on Thursday night.

The varsity girls lost to the Red Devils 56-43.

Sadie Oyer led the Lakers with 10 points.

The JV defeated Tipp City 49-35. Claire Maier scored a team-high 16 points.

Indian Lake is 14-4 overall and 10-4 in the CBC. The Lakers will travel to Urbana on Saturday with a 6:00 JV tip-off.

Tipp City improves to 17-1 overall and 14-0 in the CBC.

The Bellefontaine varsity girls defeated host Urbana 56-41.

The Chiefs outscored the Hillclimbers 18-2 in the 4th quarter.

Aaliyah Smith had 16 points, Regan Price tossed in 13 points, and Dominique Brown added 10 points.

Bellefontaine is 4-14. They will play a make-up game at Dayton Stebbins on Monday.

Indian Lake swept Benjamin Logan Thursday night in boys middle school action.

The 8th grade won 34-26. Montel Morgan led all scorers with 15 points followed by Ethan Downing’s season-high 10 points.

The Lakers (9-5) will host Indian Valley in CBC tournament action Saturday at 11 a.m.

The 7th grade Lakers defeated the Raiders 31-22. For the Raiders, Tanner Rader led the team with 12 points and 5 rebounds.

Benjamin Logan plays at home against Northwestern in the first round of the CBC tournament Saturday at 11 a.m.

In junior high girls, the Bellefontaine 7th grade team defeated Benjamin Logan 30-23 in tournament play.

Brenda Johnson led the Chiefs with 15 points and McKenzie Brunswick added 7.

The Chieftains are now 8-7 and play on Saturday at Tipp City.

For Benjamin Logan, Kessie Rose had 5 points and Hannah Boysel added 4 points.

The Raiders finished the season 4-11.

Benjamin Logan bowlers sweep Greenon

The Benjamin Logan Raiders bowling team took on the Greenon Knights Thursday night, bringing out the brooms for the sweep.

The varsity boys won 2188 to 2177

Top scorers included:
Jordan Cayot; 235, 190
Paul Scales; 208, 196

The varsity girls defeated the Knights, 2201 to 1790.

Brittney Poling; 195
Kierstan Valentine; 178

The boys JV won 1994 to 1964

Steve Watson led the JV with a 188

The girls reserve won 1935 to 1725.

WLS Lady Tigers stay in first place – Basketball scoreboard

The West Liberty-Salem varsity girls basketball team defeated visiting Northeastern 52-32 Monday night to remain in a first-place tie in the OHC.

The Tigers were led by junior Kayla Peterson's 18 points—all coming in the second half. Senior guard Christine Park added 14 points in her final home game.

WLS trailed by three at halftime but rallied in the fourth quarter to pull away from the Jets.

The Tigers are now 13-6 overall and 11-2 in the OHC. The final regular season game is scheduled for Thursday at Springfield Catholic.

The JV Lady Tigers won 32-21. They improve to 17-2 overall and 12-1 in the OHC.

In varsity boys, Graham used a fast start to defeat host Indian Lake 64-39.

At the half, the Falcons led 31-10 thanks to a 20-2 second quarter.

Senior Casey Crable had 19 points and classmate Ethan Ward added 14.

For Indian Lake, Ross Jenkins and Adam Reichert each scored 13.

Graham is 14-3 overall and 12-1 in the CBC.

The Lakers fall to 4-12, 4-9.

In JV action, Graham defeated Indian Lake 49-27.

Jr. High finals: 

Bellefontaine's eighth grade girls basketball team won its first tournament game Monday night, defeating Tecumseh 32-19.

Jazmyn Haley led the Chiefs with nine points, Holly Parker scored eight points, and Kameren Haley added seven points.

The Indian Lake 8th grade girls team handled Northridge 35-12.

Haley Boberg scored a game-high 11.

The Lakers will play Tipp City in the next round. 

Indian Lake’s seventh grade girls basketball team won its first tournament game Monday night as well, narrowly defeating Indian Valley 23-22.

The Lakers were led by Taylor Dixon who scored eight points. Monica Boswell and Gabi Maier each added six in the victory.

Lakers earn Number 4 seed – Girls Basketball tournament draw results

The girls basketball tournament draw for the Southwest District was held yesterday afternoon.

In Division II, Indian Lake earned the Number 4 seed at the Xenia sectional (games used to be played at Vandalia-Butler).

The Lakers (14-3) will play conference foe Springfield Shawnee (4-13) on Wednesday, February 17th at 6:00.

The winner will battle Graham on Tuesday, February 23rd at 6:00.

Bellefontaine (3-14) will play Number 3 seed Kenton Ridge (14-3) on Wednesday, February 17th at 7:30.

Benjamin Logan (6-11) has a bye and will play either Number 2 seed Dayton Carroll (12-5) or Greenville (3-13) on Monday, February 22nd at 7:30.
