Benjamin Logan Middle School track teams dominate tri-meet

The Benjamin Logan Middle School boys track team won a tri-meet against Graham and Anna with 57 points on Monday night.

Winning events for the team were David Wenger in the 1600 in a time of 4:57.4 and the 800 in 2:17.6, Trent Rees in the 200 hurdles in a time of29.12, the 4x400 relay team of Kyler Young, Joel Spatz, Tanner Rader, and Trent Rees in a time of4:06.2, Joel Spatz in the high jump with a height o f 5’, Austin Ahle in the shot put in a distance of 33’8”, and Jordan Scales in the pole vault in a height of 7’.

Placing second for the team were Trent Rees in the 100 dash in a time of 13.1, David Wenger and Kyler Young in the high jump in a height of 4’8”, Kelvin Shank in the long jump in 13’8.25”, and Triston Harshfield with a height of 7’ in the pole vault.

Placing third for the team were Kyle Ackley in the long jump in 13’6.5” and Trent Harshfield in the pole vault in a height of 6’6”.

Placing fourth for the team were Trent Kramer in the 400 dash in a time of 1:07.9, and Trent Harshfield in the long jump in 13’6”.

The Ben Logan ladies had a successful night as well Monday. They won the tri-meet with 63 points, followed by Graham with 52.5 points and Anna with 29.5 points.

The following are the individual placers:

In the high jump Alex Thompson was first with a height of 4'10", Miranda Batton finished 2nd with a height of 4'4", Jennifer Poling was 3rd with a height of 4'2" and Taylor Quay finished 4th with a height of 4'2".

In the long jump Ashtin Millsap was 2nd with a jump of 10'11.5",and Darien King was 3rd with a jump of 10'9" and Jessica Sosby was 4th with a jump of 10'6.5".

Julia Tulanko was 4th in the shot put with a throw of 30' 5" and Taylor Quay was 3rd with a throw of 27'10".

Hailey Lockwood was 2nd in the pole vault at 5'6".

In the 100m hurdles Hailey Lockwood was 3rd with a time of 20.5 and Ashleigh Heater was 4th with a time of 20.8.

Emmalee Rumney won the 100m dash with a time of 14.4.

Darien King finished 2nd in the 1600m run with a time of 7:07.

The 4x100m relay team of Jennifer Poling, Brianne Bowers, Emmalee Rumney and Julie Melvin finished 1st with a time of 57 seconds.

Alex Thompson was 4th in the 400m dash with a time of 1:12.

The 4x200m relay team of Jennifer Poling, Brianne Bowers, Emmalee Rumney and Ashleigh Heater finished 2nd with a time of 2:03.

Hailey Lockwood finished 3rd in the 200m hurdles with a time of 35.8.

Darien King finished 2nd in the 800m run with a time of 3:08, Hannah Boysel was 3rd with a time of 3:11 and Caitie Johnson was 4th with a time of 3:21.

Brianne Bowers finished 1st in the 200m dash with a time of 30.1.

And, the 4x400m relay team of Miranda Batton, Jessica Sosby, Julie Melvin and Jackie Melvin finished 2nd with a time of 5:09.

Bellefontaine baseball undone by Tipp Citty; WLS, Riverside record easy wins

Bellefontaine’s varsity baseball team dropped a CBC match-up with Tipp City Monday afternoon at Blue Jacket Park, 7-3.

The loss drops the Chiefs to 5-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Daulton Mosbarger pitched for the Chiefs, allowing 12 hits and seven runs over his six innings of work. The Chiefs were able to collect only four hits offensively—T.J. Garman was responsible for two of those hits.

Corey Johnson had a pair of hits to lead Tipp City.

The teams square off again Tuesday afternoon at Tipp City.

Bellefontaine’s JV team also fell to Tipp City, 6-1. Drae Lyburtus was 2-3 with a run and a stolen base in the loss. The JV Chiefs are in action tomorrow when they host Tipp City.

West Liberty-Salem’s varsity softball team defeated Southeastern 7-1 Thursday afternoon. Andrea Markin had a double and three RBI to lead the Tigers. Becka Peterson went 2-4. Alyssa Neff also went 2-4.

Tigers are 9-2 overall and 6-0 in the OHC. WLS plays again at Catholic Central Tuesday.

West Liberty’s JV softball team lost at Wapakoneta Monday afternoon, 6-1.

Riverside’s varsity softball exploded against Troy Christian Monday afternoon, winning 17-0 in five innings.

Christine Longbrake pitched three innings of scoreless softball to earn her first win of the season. The Pirates banged out 21 hits as a team and were aided by five errors from Troy Christian.

Seven different Pirates tallied multiple hit games for Riverside; every Pirate starter recorded at least one hit.

Bellefontaine racer wins at Shady Bowl

The Armageddon Night of Fire was a big hit at Shady Bowl Saturday night.

The oval in rural DeGraff hosted six feature races.

Bellefontaine resident Aaron Pippin won the sport stock feature race. Jesse Gade took second and Chad Fiessinger finished in third.

In the late model race, polesitter Jim Lewis, Jr. drove to a victory. He was followed by Brandon Bayse and Bud Perry.

Brian Brandyberry of Sidney won the 25-lap modified feature. Mike Carroll finished in second and Jim Lewis, Jr. came in third.

Steve Clarkson of Houston won the Pro 4’s race. He was followed by Dave Sage and Rodney Schrack.

In Dwarfs, Daniel Wirick was the fastest, Brandon Bayse came in second, and Bob Bayse was third.

Mason Patrick won the compact feature. Steven Salyer followed him across the finish line and Jim Massengill earned third place.

Bellefontaine Middle School held the first Chieftain Relays Friday at Dodd Stadium.

The Bellefontaine girls team brought home a 2nd place finish with 71 points.

Raiders Run Rule Piqua in Micah Gregg Invitational Opener

Benjamin Logan beat Piqua 17-4.

Trenton Pugh pitched 3 innings of hitless baseball in relief, and drove in three runs with a 3-3 day at the plate including his second home run of the year to spur Benjamin Logan to a 17-4 win over Piqua Saturday at Benjamin Logan High School.

The game was the first of a three team tournament that also included Fairlawn.

Piqua scored first off of Raiders starter Blake Rodenberger with two runs in the top of the first inning. Ben Logan answered with four in the bottom of the first when Matt McKirihan singled and stole second. After a pop out to short, Artie Fields hit a fly ball to centerfield that was dropped by Tyler Davis. The error allowed McKirihan to take third and put Fields on second. Pugh would drive in McKirihan with a single, followed by another rbi single by Cory Klinger. Pugh and Klinger would both eventually score due to Indians errors.

After Piqua tied things up with two runs in the second, the Raiders again answered with another two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Dustin Bowers led off the inning with a double and be sacrificed to third with a sacrifice bunt from Cory Cooper. McKirihan drew a walk and again stole second to make runners on second and third with only one out. Bowers would score on a wild pitch, advancing McKirihan to third. Colt Stover would drive in McKirihan with a single. After two innings, the Raiders led 6-4.

Trenton Pugh came in to pitch in relief of Rodenberger in the third inning and set the side down in order. Then, Benjamin Logan blew things wide open in the bottom of the third inning. The Raiders would score eleven runs highlighted by a three rbi bases loaded double from Cory Cooper and a two run home run by Pugh. The Raiders sent sixteen batters to the plate that inning.

Pugh did not give up a hit in his final two innings, striking out a total of five and the Raiders would earn the run rule victory with a 17-4 win in five innings.

At the time this was posted, Benjamin Logan’s record was 4-5 after the win. The Raiders played Fairlawn later in the day.

Benjamin Logan faces Urbana on Monday in a CBC Madriver Division matchup.

This is the second year that the Micah Gregg Invitational has been held with the high school team playing. The game had been an alumni exhibition up until last year. Micah Gregg was a Benjamin Logan student that passed away do to a heart condition entering his sophomore season in the Raider baseball program in 2000.

All the proceeds from the day including entry fees from Piqua and Fairlawn are donated to a scholarship fund given to up to three Benjamin Logan students annually.

Chiefs beat Heath, lose tough to powerful Alder squad

Bellefontaine faced two different opponents on Saturday, gaining a split.

The Chiefs beat Heath 17-4 in five innings.

Josh Kauffman raised his record to 2-1 with the win.

Several Chieftains recorded multiple hits in the win. TJ Garman had four hits, Brandon Winter three hits, and Kauffman, Clifton, and Kelley each had a pair of hits.

The second game saw the Chiefs taking on an undefeated tough Jonathan Alder squad.

The Chiefs took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth, only to have Alder tie the game in the bottom of the fourth with two runs of their own. Alder then plated a run in the bottom of the sixth the Bellefontaine was not able to answer.

The 3-2 loss drops Bellefontaine to 5-2 on the season. Alder moves to 9-0.

Garret Pickering pitched well despite being handed the loss.

Austin Kelley drove in both Chieftain runs with a single. Garman also had a double.

Pirates post pair of no-hitters; Softball Scoreboard

The Riverside Pirates rode powerful pitching, defense, and consistent hitting to cruise to a double-header sweep over Jackson Center.

The Pirate pitching combo of Ashley Jones and Paige Atterholt each tossed no-hitters, with Jones notching a perfect game.

Riverside won game one 7-0 behind Jones, who also struck out 11 while walking none.

Brittany Shough had three hits and scored four runs in the opener.

Riverside won game two 9-0, as sophomore Atterholt threw her no-hitter in her first varsity pitching appearance. She walked two and struck out eight.

Shough scored three more runs in the win, and Whitney Jenkins, Abby Heaberlin, Erica Snapp, and Christine Longbrake each had multiple hits.

West Liberty-Salem split a doubleheader against Urbana, winning 1-0 before falling 11-5.

Alyssa Neff pitched a 5-hitter for the shutout win. Becka Peterson had three hits with a home run and two RBI and Andrea Markin 2 hits with a triple in game two.

The Tigers are 8-2 overall and 5-0 in the OHC. They host Southeastern on Monday at 5:00 p.m.

The Tiger JV squad swept Urbana.

Jordan Smith was the winning pitcher in game one. Tina Caporaso and Miranda Wallace were each 3-4 at the plate, and Alandra Cox had a pair of hits.

Alexis Smith pitched a one hitter for the win in game two. Courtney Milliron went 3-3 at the plate.

Lady Tigers impressive at Anna Invitational

The West Liberty Salem Lady Tigers Track and Field team placed second to state powerhouse Minster at the Anna Invitational track and field meet on Saturday.

Team Scores: 1st Minster 180, 2nd WLS 114.5, 3rd Ft. Jennings 67,5, 4th Anna 66, 5th Botkins 64, 6th Lehman Catholic 55, 7th New Bremen 41, 8th Riverside 37, 9th Houston 32

Second place finishes for WLS were provided by:

Sarah Murphy in the 300 meter hurdles, Kelsey Oakley in the shot put, and the 4x800 relay team of Courtney Karg, Shawnda Henault, Addy Hartsel and Meghan Vogel.

Placing third for WLS were Hannah Ropp in the 100 meter hurdles and pole vault, Jenelle VanHorn in high jump, Vogel in the 3200 meter run and the 4x400 relay team of Murphy, Sarah Williams, A. Hartsel and Hannah Hartsel.

WLS is back in action Tuesday for a quad meet in Mechanicsburg.

Jr. High Raiders shine at Chieftain Relays

The Jr. High Chieftain Relays were held at Dodd Stadium last night.

The Benjamin Logan Middle School boys team ran to a fourth place finish.

The Raiders won four events.

The high jump team of Kyler Young and Joel Spatz cleared 10’2” to take first.

The mixed relay team of Trent Rees, Tanner Rader, Joel Spatz, and David Wenger finished in 4:16 to claim the top spot.

The distance medley relay team of Rees, Rader, Young, and Wenger won the event in 13:49.

The 4x400 relay of Spatz, Young, Rees, and Wenger won in a time of 4:09.

Finally, the pole vault relay team of Triston Harshfield and Trent Harshfield finished in third place with a height of 13’.

The Benjamin Logan Middle School girls team finished in fifth place.

Alex Thompson and Miranda Batton won the high jump relay by clearing 8’10”.

Julia Tulanko and Caitie Johnson were third in discus.

Tulanko and Julie Melvin were sixth in shot put.

Ashleigh Heater and Ashtin Millsap finished seventh in long jump.

The sprint medley relay team of Jennifer Poling, Brianne Bowers, Emmalee Rumney, and Jackie Melvin finished in second.

Poling, Bowers, Rumney, and Hailey Lockwood took second in the 4x200 relay.

The 4x100 relay team of Poling, Bowers, Rumnee, and Julie Melvin finished in third.

Miranda Batton, Jessica Sosby, Julie Melvin, and Jackie Melvin ran to fourth place in the 4x400 relay.

The 4x800 relay team of Jessica Skidmore, Caitie Johnson, Hannah Boysel, and Darien King finished in fourth.

In the shuttle hurdles, Ashleigh Heater, Julie Melvin, Miranda Batton, and Hailey Lockwood placed fourth.

Lady Tigers roll again – Softball and baseball scoreboard

A few local softball and baseball teams hit the diamond Friday night.

In varsity softball, West Liberty-Salem steamrolled host Cedarville 24-0 in five innings.

Sophomore standout Becka Peterson fired a no-hitter and struck out 13.

Kaitlyn Kite smacked two home runs and drove in eight runs, Abbey Ledford had three hits and four RBIs, and Peterson tallied four hits.

The Indians hurt themselves with eleven errors.

WLS improves to 7-1 overall and 5-0 in the OHC. They are visiting Urbana for a doubleheader today.

The JV Tigers fell to Riverside 9-7.

The Riverside varsity team dropped a 4-3 heartbreaker at Houston.

The Wildcats scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn the win.

Senior Abby Heaberlin suffered the loss. She only yielded two earned runs.

Heaberlin led the Pirates attack with two hits and two runs.

The Pirates are 3-2. They’re playing a doubleheader at Jackson Center today.

In baseball, the West Liberty-Salem JV team blasted Cedarville 11-1 in five innings.

Luke Cook tossed a one-hitter and recorded ten strikeouts.

Matt Ulmer had two hits and three RBIs.

Cook, Grant Burden, and Garret Rudasil each added hits.

The Tigers are 3-0.

BHS tennis team drops league match

The Bellefontaine varsity boys tennis team lost at Kenton Ridge 4-1 yesterday.

Senior Robbie Ball won at first singles.

The Chiefs have dropped their last three matches to fall to 3-4 overall and 2-3 in the CBC.

Coach Stein’s squad will host Greenon on Monday.

WL-S girls track shines in home conference meet, boys place second

The West Liberty Salem girls track and field team won a home quad meet Thursday against Ohio Heritage Conference foes Northeastern, Cedarville and Springfield Catholic Central.

Team Scores are: 1st WLS 103, 2nd Northeastern 75, 3rd Cedarville 64, 4th SCC 13

The Lady Tigers were led by junior Hannah Ropp who placed first in the pole vault and the 100 meter hurdles. Also placing first for WL-S were Kelsey Oakley in shot put, Jenelle Van Horn in high jump, Meghan Vogel in the 1600 meter run, Courtney Karg in the 400 meter dash and Sarah Murphy in the 300 meter hurdles.

On the boys side WL-S placed second to Northeastern.

Team Score: 1st Northeastern 105, 2nd WLS 92, 3rd Cedarville 41, 4th SCC 18

The Tigers were powered by the first place finishes of Eric Zirkle in the 110 and 300 meter hurdles. Other firsts for the Tigers include Austin Wilson in long jump and Landon McKeever in pole vault.

The Tigers are back in action Saturday at the Anna Rocket Invitational.

JV Raiders outslug Lima Bath

A couple of local softball teams played last night.

In JV action, Benjamin Logan outscored Lima Bath 11-9.

Kaitlyn Miller pitched a complete game to earn the win.

Melina Hilty had three hits and three RBIs, Chelsea Cox tallied two hits and three RBIs, and Tess Drumm added two hits.

The Lady Raiders are 6-2 overall.

In 8th grade fastpitch, Indian Lake fell to Triad 5-0.

The Lakers Kylie Speicher and Kylie Jenkins each had a double.

Lady Raiders win tri-meet, Wilkins sets school record

The Benjamin Logan varsity girls track team easily won a home tri-meet against Greenon and Marion Elgin last night.

The Lady Raiders had 94 points, Greenon tallied 43 points, and Marion Elgin had 35 points.

Benjamin Logan standout Vanessa Wilkins set a new school record in the 3200 meter run. She won the race in 11:53.

The West Liberty-Salem Junior High girls track team won their opening meet at Northeastern Tuesday night over Triad, Cedarville and South Vienna with a score of 95.

The Benjamin Logan Junior High boys team finished in second place with 53 points.

Winning events for the team were Joel Spatz in the high jump with a height of 5’2” and the 100 dash in 12.9, David Wenger in the 1600 in a time of 5:24 and the 800 in a time of 2:26, Trent Rees in the 200 dash in a time of 27.1, and the 4x400 meter relay team of Joel Spatz, Tanner Rader, Kyler Young, and Trent Rees in a time of 4:16.

Finishing second for the team were David Wenger in the high jump in 4’10” and Trent Kramer in the 110 hurdles in a time of 21.8.

Finishing third for the team were Kyler Young in the high jump in 4’10”, Dillon Jakeway in the 110 hurdles in a time of 22.4, Trent Kramer in the 400 dash in a time of 1:11, and Troy Selhorst in the 200 hurdles in a time of 36.3.

Finishing fourth for the team were Dylan Jakeway in the long jump in 13’5” and Austin Ahle in the discus in 99’3”.

Bellefontaine won the meet with 61 points.

A night removed from losing its 2010 CBC debut at Kenton Ridge Monday night Bellefontaine’s varsity baseball team exacted some revenge on the Cougars Tuesday afternoon at Blue Jacket Park, routing Kenton Ridge 11-1.

The victory pushes Bellefontaine’s overall record to 4-1 and 1-1 in league play. Kenton Ridge drops to 5-2 and 1-1 with the loss.

Daulton Mosbarger kept the previously hot Kenton Ridge bats at bay. Pitching six innings Mosbarger scattered four hits allowing only one run while striking out seven.

Offensively the Chiefs were led by standout shortstop Brandon Winter. Winter went 4-4 at the plate, scoring four runs including the game-winner. Also tallying multi-hit games for the Chiefs were Jeremy Clifton, T.J. Garman, Michael Stockton and Josh Kauffman.

It was Clifton’s RBI single that plated Winter in the bottom of the sixth inning to complete the run-rule victory.

The Chiefs gave Kenton Ridge a dose of its own medicine. During Monday’s loss, Bellefontaine surrendered seven first-inning runs and were never able to recover. Tuesday night, the Chiefs offense came to life in a big way, plating eight runs in the first two innings en route to building an insurmountable lead.

The Bellefontaine JV team fell to Kenton Ridge 7-4.

Miyabi Nonaka suffered the loss. Drae Lyburtus had three hits and an RBI.

The Chiefs are 3-1.

The West Liberty-Salem freshman baseball team defeated Triad 10-6.

Matt Ulmer picked up the victory in relief.

Ross Hickenbottom was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, Grant Burden went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, and Ulmer added two hits.

The Tigers are 4-0.

Softball finals:

West Liberty-Salem ran past rival Mechanicsburg 18-5 in five innings.

Andrea Markin had two home runs and three RBIs, Kaitlyn Kite went 3 for 3 with two doubles, Alyssa Neff was 4 for 4, Abbey Ledford tallied two hits and three RBIs, Becka Peterson delivered a home run and two RBIs, and Emily Detwiler had a triple and four RBIs.

WLS is 6-1 overall and 4-0 in the OHC. The Tigers will visit Cedarville on Friday at five o’clock.

Indian Lake blanked Greenon 7-0.

Maci Jones fired a one-hitter and recorded eight strikeouts.

Caitlyn Jordan had an inside-the-park home run in the fourth inning. Krista Skaggs and Kerstin Harmon each had a pair of singles, Kayla Thieman and Maci Jones had two RBIs apiece, and Chelsey Hoyles had a triple and an RBI.

The Lakers will visit Springfield Shawnee on Thursday at five o’clock.

Bellefontaine fell to Kenton Ridge 10-7.

Senior Kara Morrison suffered the loss.

The West Liberty-Salem Tigers had a successful evening on Monday.

The varsity girls softball team defeated Triad 13-3 in 5 innings.

Alyssa Neff pitched all 5 innings for the Tigers. Abbey Ledford hit a grand slam home run, Kaitlyn Kite added a homer, a double and 4 RBIs, and Becka Peterson had 2 doubles. Emily Detwiler, Andrea Markin, and Kate Detwiler each added two hits.

WLS improves to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the OHC. The Tigers play Tuesday at home against Mechanicsburg at 5 p.m.

The JV Tigers defeated Triad as well Monday night, 8-2. Alexis Smith was the winning pitcher with Jordan Smith coming in for relief.

Tina Caporaso and Miranda Wallace both led the Tigers in hitting going 2 for 3.

The Indian Lake varsity softball team handled host Greenon 11-0 in six innings.

Caitlyn Jordan fired a one-hitter and struck out seven.

Head coach Kim Hoyles said, “She moved the ball around the plate well today, keeping the Knights off balance.”

Benjamin Logan’s girls varsity track and field team scored 72 points and placed second in the 15-team London Relays last Saturday. The Raiders notched second-place finishes in six of the 14 events.

The West Liberty-Salem girls track and field team placed 13th out of 24 teams in the Tipp City Invitational last Saturday.

Placing for WLS: 4x800 5th place - Meghan Vogel, Shawnda Henault, Addy Hartsel and Courtney Karg 11:09.6

Meghan Vogel also placed fifth in the 3200 meter run (12:26.96) and eighth in the 1600 meter run (5:45.19).

Kelsey Oakley placed seventh in shot put (31'11").

There was no pole vault due to high winds.

“Some of the girls really stepped up and performed well against mostly D1 competition,” WLS Head Coach Ann Vogel said. “We didn't place in a lot of events but in most areas we improved our performances.”

The Tigers host a quad meet Thursday with Northeastern, Catholic Central and Cedarville.

Area wrestlers place well at national tournament

Several area middle-school wrestlers placed at the National Wrestling Tournament over the weekend. The tournament was held at Eastern Michigan University.

In the girls elementary school division Taylor Hites took fourth and Isaac Newman took third in the boys elementary division.

In the boys middle school division Russ Hites took first; he also placed fourth in the boys high school division.

In the girls high school division Kiersten Harmon took second and Darby Newman placed ninth.

Bellefontaine baseball remains perfect; WLS and Benjamin Logan sweep twin bills

Bellefontaine’s varsity baseball team defeated Marion Pleasant Saturday afternoon, 5-0, in five innings. Garret Pickering picked up the win on the mound for the Chiefs, striking out five and surrendering only two hits.

T.J. Garmon was 2-2 for the Chiefs and Austin Kelly, also, was 2-2 with a double.

West Liberty-Salem’s freshman baseball team swept Bellefontaine in a double-header over the weekend.

The Tigers took game one 16-7. Max Bailey got the win for WLS and Matt Ulmer went 3-4 with a home run.

Bailey and Garrett Rudasill each added a double.

In game two the Tigers defeated the Chiefs 11-10.

Matt Ulmer was the winning pitcher. He helped himself with the bat, too knocking a double. Austin Randall and Grant Burden each added two hits for the Tigers. Burden also earned the save.

Benjamin Logan’s JV softball team took a pair of games from Kenton last Saturday. The Raiders took the first game, 5-1.

Kaitlyn Miller pitched well for the Raiders, striking out eight. Her record is now 1-2.

Chelsea Cox led Benjamin Logan' offensively, going 3-4. Bethany Lasseter and Miller each added a pair of hits as well.

Benjamin Logan won the second game in blowout fashion, 10-0. Brooklyn Terrill threw a no-hitter, fanning 13. Terrill is now 3-0 on the year. She was also 2-4 at the plate.

Cierra Fields was 3-5 for the Raiders, Melina Hilty and Chelsea Cox each went 3-4 and Dokoda Plikard had two hits in the win.

Benjamin Logan is now 4-1 on the year and will host Graham on Monday.

Shady Bowl Speedway kicks off 2010

Shady Bowl Speedway kicked off its 2010 season with a full program of stock car racing action last Saturday. Saturday’s events marked a great night for the Yelton family. Brad Yelton took the modified main and Rob took top spot in the late models.

The 25 lap modified main event saw Yelton jump out front at the drop of the green flag. Yelton set a quick pace from his front row starting spot. However, the win was far from easy, as Brian Brandyberry and fast qualifier (13.93) Brad Williams were bumper to bumper behind Yelton the entire race.

Neither Brandyberry nor Williams were able to get over the hump and were relegated to watching Yelton take the checker in his Bellefontaine Truck Sales sponsored entry.

Brandyberry, Williams, Chad Poole and Jim Lewis Jr. rounded out the top five.

Rob Yelton, after seeing younger brother win his race wire-to-wire, had his work cut out for family bragging rights in the late model main.

Rob took over the top spot from his outside front-row starting spot on lap one. Yelton then set sail for the checkered flag with Brandon Bayse running second. Bayse was unable to catch Yelton and Rob, not to be outdone, claimed first place his Bellefontaine Truck Sales racer.

Bayse crossed the line second, Lewis Jr. third, Mark Parker fourth and Rodney Roush fifth. Bayse, however, was disqualified for not reporting to the scales for a post-race inspection.

Mark Parker was the winner of the heat.

Rodney Roush took the helm at the drop of the green flag in the sport stocks. The 2009 champion’s lead was short-lived, however, ad Jesse Gade then took over the lead in his Piqua Transfer Chevy.

Gade went on to post his first ever feature win. Chris Abbott, Buck Purtee, Rick Thompson and Aaron Pippin rounded out the top five.

Purtee carried the checkered flag in the heat race.

In Pro-4 action, David Gerstner piloted his Charlie Steakery truck to the feature win. Rodney Schrack, Wayne Watkins and fast qualifier (14.71) Steve Clarkson rounded out the field.

The compact main saw Zanesfield driver Mason Patrick take the win in his Kirby Auto Parts Probe. Patrick started dead last in the event. Steven Salyer, Jim Massengill, Kelsey Flynn and Todd Travire rounded out the field.

The 20-lap Ohio Valley Dwarf Car Association feature saw 2009 Champion Brandon Bayse dominate the event in his Piqua Transfer coach bodied car. K. D. Knoedler, Daniel Wirrick, Bob Bayse and Jerry Russell rounded out the top five.

Bayse also carried the checker for the heat win.

The Detroit Iron main went to Springfield’s Chris Hensley in the DeGraff Service Center El Camino.

This Saturday the Bowl will host the Armageddon Firer and Fury show. The highlight of the show is a jet-powered car that will torch a car in the infield with its after-burners.

Saturday is also Dayton Auto Racing Club Night with all DARF members admitted to the grandstand area free. Members will be asked to present a current paid membership card to take advantage of this offer.

The Modifieds, Late Models, Pro-4’s, Sport Stocks, Compacts and Dwarf cars will be racing. Time trials will begin at 5:30 with racing at 7:00.
