baseballs.jpgSeveral area youth baseball and softball teams played last night.

Little League finals included:

Lakeview defeated Belle Center 6-1.

Lakeview pitchers Blake Ferris, Austin Collins, and Tyler Dolan teamed up for six strikeouts.

Bellefontaine #6 Thompson Electric beat Huntsville #2 Logan County Co-op 6-4.

For Thompson Electric, Daniel Boy was 2-2 with a home run.

Tyler Jones had two hits, including a triple.

Gauge Hayman and Dorion Hughes added triples.

John Kirby and Jones combined for eleven strikeouts.

For Logan County Co-op, Josh Smith had two triples.

Steven Major and Smith teamed up for seven K's.

Washington SS Powerwash ran past Raymond Monarch Pizza 18-7.

For Powerwash, Reyse Wallbrown, Dustin Roby, and Kurt Crockett pitched well.

Wallbrown had four hits and Tyler Rode recorded three hits.

Ethan Downing, Kyle Roby, LJ Henderson, Tyler Rode, and Crockett added two hits apiece.

For Raymond, Steven Jones, Michael Hall, and Ethan Jenkins each had two hits.

Maple Leaf outscored Huntsville CJ Engineering 12-9.

Maple Leaf pitchers Nick Heydinger, Nick Burton, and Skyler Heilman combined for the win.

Tristin Tillman led the offense with three hits and two RBI's.

Nick Burton and Matt Entsminger each had a hit and two RBI's.

For Huntsville, Daniel Fry and Brandon Gillen had two hits apiece.

Softball finals:

Senior League:

Dairy Queen edged Butler's Spouting 3-2.

Haleigh Stafford was the winning pitcher and recorded ten strikeouts.

Amanda Cole led the DQ offense with two hits and two runs.

Junior League:

National City Bank defeated Masonic Temple 14-4.

For National City, Sara Vetorino was the winning pitcher and recorded four strikeouts.

Reliever Hollie Stepp struck out six.

Abby Godwin made an outstanding defensive play.

Ryelee Clary and Bailee Benton each had two hits and two RBI's.

Shelby Raney had a hit and two RBI's.

McDonald's beat Steve Austin's 11-2.

Savannah Bryson was the winning pitcher and Macy Neff delivered a grand slam.

10 and under:

DeGraff #1 DeGraff Creamery outscored Huntsville #1 15-11.

Helena Faulder was 2-3 with a double and two RBI's and Lauryn Davis had two hits and three RBI's.

tennis_photo.jpgThe boys tennis sectional tournament opened at Troy yesterday.

Bellefontaine sophomore Rob Ball won three matches to advance to the semifinals tomorrow.

Ball has qualified to play in the district tournament next Thursday at Centerville High School.

He was the only Chieftain to advance in the 16-team tournament.

Ball has played first singles the last two years.

The WLS boys track team was featured on "Chalk Talk" earlier this spring.
The West Liberty-Salem girls track and field team placed second behind Greenview at the Ohio Heritage Conference meet on Thursday at Mechanicsburg.

Girls Team Scores:  1st Greeneview 136.5, 2nd WLS 123.5, 3rd Cedarville 62, 4th Southeastern 55, 5th Mechanicsburg 39, 6th Northeasthern 38, 7th Catholic Central 37, 8th Triad 33

Brock Mitchell at bat against Northwestern

Tyler Stephenson hit two home runs, five rbi's and pitched a complete game in pacing the Northwestern Warriors to an 11-2 win over Bellefontaine in the sectional semifinals.

Stephenson’s first home run came in the second inning with the Warriors leading 2-0. Kyle Lease and Ryan Pearson also came around to score. At that point, the Warriors led 5-0. (Audio interview included.)

West Liberty-Salem volleyball standout Paige Parker will play for the Ohio Valley Region Youth High Performance Volleyball program this summer.

The sophomore will represent our state in the Youth 2008 High Performance Championship games in Tucson, Arizona July 22nd through July 28th.

The matches will be played at the Tucson Convention Center.
