Reading program showcased at BCS board meeting Print E-mail

Superintendent Anderson and the five board members met at the Sloan Distance Learning Lab at Bellefontaine High School for their monthly work session.

Spanish teacher JoAnne Aburto explained a trip to Mexico.

Select students plan on visiting Mexico City, Acapulco, and Taxsco June 9th-16th.

The board will vote on the trip at their next meeting.

Three elementary teachers gave a presentation on Project MORE.

The program is designed to improve students' reading skills.(audio interviews included)

City drug store broken into Print E-mail

walgreens.jpgThe Bellefontaine Police Department reports that Walgreens was broken into just after two o'clock this morning.

A male wearing dark clothing pried open the front door.

He then went to the pharmacy area and stole an undisclosed amount of drugs.

Nothing else was taken.

The man was able to flee before officers arrived.

Police continue their investigation.

bellefontaine_fire_department_engine_21_on_4-07.jpgA local man was killed in a field fire near his house yesterday afternoon.

The Bellefontaine Fire Department along with the DeGraff Fire Department responded to 1962 County Road 31 South around 2:30.

Stephen Davis, 48, of rural Bellefontaine, was found when firefighters were extinguishing the fire.

The Logan County Sheriff's Office and the Logan County Coroner's Office responded, too.

The coroner's office is still investigating the cause of death.

Gas prices continue to fall Print E-mail

gas_pump_photo_on_2-08.jpgAs Ohio gasoline prices continue their quick descent, the statewide average is back below $3 a gallon for the first time since last winter.

The daily survey from AAA and the Oil Price Information Service has regular averaging $2.99 in Ohio, down from about $3.06 the day before.

The state's average price has fallen 26 percent from the record of $4.05 reached on July 3rd.

The drop in gasoline costs has accompanied a slide in oil prices resulting from declining demand in the face of a global economic crisis.

Russells Point Officers involved in high-speed chase Print E-mail

Officers from the Russells Point Police Department were involved in a high-speed pursuit Saturday night.

Brian K. Hayman, 44, Bellefontaine, led officers from several departments on the chase, which culminated in a crash involving a law enforcement vehicle. 

Around 8:15 p.m., officers received a complaint from a witness concerning a possible drunk driver traveling west on US 33.

When Chief Freyhof attempted to initiate a stop, Hayman gave the impression of pulling over, but instead began to flee, running several traffic control devices along US 33 in Russells Point.
