Crisis Intervention Team training this week

nami_logo_on_4-08.jpgThe National Alliance on Mental Illness is providing a week-long training session for the Logan/Champaign Counties Crisis Intervention Team. The training is taking place at the Urbana University Student Center this week.

The first crisis intervention team was established in Memphis in 1998 after the tragic shooting by a police officer of a man with a serious mental illness. This tragedy stimulated a collaboration between police, the Memphis chapter of NAMI, the University of Tennessee Medical School, and the University of Memphis to improve police training and procedures in response to mental illness.

Free fishing offered across Ohio later this week

fishing_file_photo_on_4-08.jpgOhioans are encouraged to take advantage of "Free Fishing Days" on Saturday, May 3rd and Sunday, May 4th to experience the great angling opportunities Ohio has to offer. For these two days only, anglers may fish any of the state's public waters without a license.

"Fishing is a great opportunity for the family to get outdoors together," said David M.Graham, chief of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. "Ohio's many lakes and rivers offer some of the best fishing anywhere."

Kerns powers Raiders, Lady Lakers win in the seventh

baseballs.jpgSeveral local baseball and softball teams hit the diamond last night.

The Bellefontaine varsity baseball team lost 4-3 at Springfield Shawnee.

The Chiefs and Braves split the season series.

BHS is 10-5 overall and 7-4 in the CBC.

Benjamin Logan defeated host Greenon 9-4.

Senior Lee Kerns sparked the Raiders.

West Liberty-Salem sweeps Champaign County meet, IL girls win Logan County meet

tiger_logo_on_10-07.jpgThe West Liberty-Salem boys and girls track and field teams swept the Champaign County meet at Urbana on Tuesday evening.

Boys Team Scores:  1st WLS 92, 2nd Urbana 87, 3rd Mechanicsburg 78, 4th Graham 72, 5th Triad 22

The Tigers were powered by first place finishes from Eric Salley in the 400 meter dash, Lance Kitchen in the 300 meter hurdles, Brice Baumgardner in long jump, Justus Murphy in pole vault and the 4x400 relay team of Jake Anderson, Baumgardner, Salley and Kitchen.

Placing second for the Tigers were Seth Baker in the 800 meter run, Nate Bratka in the discus, Daniel Wirick in the 200 meter dash and the 4x800 relay team of Baker, Matt Vogel, Brandon Shively and Salley.

Tigers and Chiefs win big in junior high track

track_and_field_shot_on_3-08.jpgThe West Liberty-Salem boys and girls jr. high track teams hosted a quad meet on Tuesday evening with both teams coming out with victories.

Boys Team Scores:  1st WLS 97, 2nd Miami View 56, 3rd Mechanicsburg 42.5, 4th Triad 32.5

The Tigers were led by first place finishes from Zach Konkle in the 100 meter dash and the 200 meter hurdles and Ryan Meister in the 1600 and 800 meter runs.  Also placing first for the Tigers were Greg White in long jump, Michael Yoder in the 400 meter dash, Michael Mack in the 200 meter dash,  the 4x100 relay team of Yoder, Mack, White and Konkle, the 4x200 relay team of Anthony Allen, J.J. Birt, Cameron Ward and Mack and the 4x400 relay team of Ward, Birt, Meister and Yoder.

Girls Team Scores:  1st WLS 127.5, 2nd Miami View 41, 3rd Mechanicsburg 40, 4th Triad 18.5

Meghan Vogel paced the Lady Tigers with first place finishes in the 1600 and 800 meter runs.  Also providing first place finishes were Addie Kendall in shot put, Katie Evans in discus, Brenna Hayes in long jump, Janelle VanHorn in high jump, Andrea Markin in the 100 meter hurdles, Melany Ward in the 200 meter hurdles, Alyssa Neff in the 200 meter dash, the 4x100 relay team of Maria Daulton, Neff, Markin and Ward, the 4x200 relay team of Ward, Alandra Cox, Hayes and Daulton and the 4x400 relay team of Alexis Smith, Addy Hartsel, VanHorn and Vogel.

The Tigers will compete at the Graham Middle School Invitational on Thursday.

The Bellefontaine Middle School boys track team swept a tri-meet last night with Tecumseh and Fairbanks.

Team scores were:  BMS with 69, Fairbanks with 49, and Tecumseh with 30.
