 Many of our local baseball and softball teams hit the field for league play last night.
Varsity baseball finals included:
Host Indian Lake edged rival Benjamin Logan 4-3 to earn a split in the season series.
Cody Van Horn posted the win in relief.
Senior Tyler Maddox belted a triple to power the Lakers.
The Lakers are 8-4 and the Raiders are 7-7.
Bellefontaine steamrolled host Dayton Stebbins 11-0.
The Chiefs are 8-2, 6-2.
Bellefontaine will battle Indian Lake at Fifth Third Field Friday afternoon at 4:30. You can hear live coverage on 1390 WBLL.
JV baseball:
Bellefontaine ran past Dayton Stebbins 15-0 at Blue Jacket Park.
Greg Huffman earned the win.
Colt Scherer had three hits and scored three runs.
Austin Kelly added two hits.
West Liberty-Salem handled Greeneview 12-1.
Austin Lapp pitched four innings and earned the win.
Zach Woodruff, Collin Link, Brad Frantz, Cody Allen, and Sean King each drove in two runs.
T.R. Nisonger, Ryan Ropp, and Erik Thomas added hits.
West Liberty-Salem is 5-3 overall and 5-1 in the OHC.
Freshman baseball:
West Liberty-Salem outscored Bellefontaine 24-13 last night.
On Monday, the Tigers defeated Yellow Springs 23-14.
Last Friday, WLS lost 19-15 vs. Benjamin Logan.
Last Thursday, the Tigers beat the Indian Lake JV team 2-1.
8th grade baseball:
Indian Lake lost 7-2 vs. Graham last night.
Travis Francis and Ben Frey each had two hits to power the Lakers.
Frey had a strong night on the mound, too.
Indian Lake is 6-3 and will host St. Marys tonight.
Varsity softball:
In their stiffest challenge this season, West Liberty-Salem beat host Northeastern 10-4 in ten innings.
The Jets forced extra innings by scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game at 4-4.
The Tigers exploded for six runs in the tenth inning to post another win.
WLS is 16-0 overall and 10-0 in the OHC.
Bellefontaine lost 6-2 at Dayton Stebbins.
The Indians scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning to take control.
The Chiefs are 9-5 overall and 5-3 in league play.
Indian Lake fell to rival Benjamin Logan 3-1.
The Lakers are 11-3, 6-2.
Coach Cramer's team will host Bellefontaine tomorrow.
Jackson Center beat Waynesfield-Goshen 4-1.
Sophomore Casey Gates fired a six-hitter to earn the win.
Bethany Hoehne led the JC attack with three hits, including two doubles.
Freshman Shelby Gilroy paced Waynesfield with two hits and a run scored.
JV softball:
Benjamin Logan took two games from Indian Lake this week.
On Tuesday, Kirsten Givens picked up the win and tossed a five-hitter.
Lauren Bycynski had a game-winning triple in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Earlier in the game, she homered.
Deanna Dill and Caroline Lehmon had two RBI's apiece.
On Monday, Bycynski pitched a two-hitter and the Raiders won 8-0.
Jordan Simpkins had a double.
Benjamin Logan is 11-1 overall and 8-0 in the CBC.
8th grade fastpitch:
Indian Lake beat Ridgemont 15-5.
Maci Jones recorded twelve strikeouts.
Kayla Thieman had two hits, including a double.
Taylor Hakes and Taylor Drake each added a double.
