Illinois earthquake rattles parts of Ohio

illinois_earthquake_map_on_4-18-08.jpgA 5.2 earthquake centered in southern Illinois has rocked people awake as far away as Chicago and Ohio.

In Logan County, the quake was felt in parts of Bellefontaine, Huntsville, DeGraff, Quincy, and West Liberty.

People in Cincinnati, Columbus, and as far east as Hocking County reported beds shook and dishes rattled.

Jamie Patrick, a junior at Bellefontaine High School, has been selected for the prestigious 2008 Martin W. Essex School for the Gifted.

The Essex School, now in its third decade, is a summer residential program comprised of workshops, activities, and extended projects that allow for intellectual investigation of a broad spectrum of subject areas and social issues. Students reside on the campus of The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.

Injury crash in the city

bellefontaine_fire_department_squad_on_12-07.jpgThere was a serious injury crash on the city's northside yesterday afternoon.

The Bellefontaine Police Department and Bellefontaine Fire and EMS responded to a one-vehicle wreck on Route 68 shortly after one o'clock.

A northbound cargo truck went off the right side of the road and struck a utility pole near Northview Drive, which is near the Comfort Inn.

The passenger suffered serious injuries. He was flown to OSU Medical Center in Columbus.

Four Area Men Plead Guilty

Judge Mark O'Connor took four guilty pleas in Logan County Common Pleas Court Wednesday and Thursday.

Adam Bryant, 21, of Bellefontaine and Derek Maynard, 25, of Lima each pled guilty to receiving stolen property.

Zachariah Bates, 20, of Bellefontaine pled guilty to passing bad checks.

Presentence investigations were ordered and sentencings are scheduled for May 19th.

Riverside Board Recognizes Student Achievers

Riverside Board of Education recognized the Powerlifting Team, who placed 1st in a national competition under Coach Stewart.
The Riverside Board of Education held their regular monthly meeting Thursday evening. Parents and staff filled the audience as the board recognized students, members of the community, and welcomed a new staff member.

In athletics, Morgan Zumberger was recognized for recently signing a letter of intent to play volleyball at Columbus State. (Video interview included.)
