BL baseball wins again, two local softball teams fall

In varsity baseball, Benjamin Logan beat visiting Triad 6-4.

Senior Lee Kerns belted a three-run homer to pace the Raiders.

Teammate Jeremiah Kerns had a triple.

The Raiders are 4-2 overall and 1-1 in league play.

In softball, the Benjamin Logan freshman team lost to the West Liberty-Salem JV team 20-10.

Several Raiders and Chiefs shine in junior high track

track_and_field_shot_on_3-08.jpgThe Benjamin Logan Junior High boys track team placed second with 70 points in a quad meet with Urbana, South Vienna, and St. Johns Catholic Wednesday.

Winning events for the Raiders were Quint Terry in the 400 dash with a time of 58.1 seconds, Caleb Titus in the 200 hurdles with a time of 28.0, Eric Olson in the high jump with a height of 5'2', Dylan McGarry in the pole vault with a height of 7'6", and the 4x400 relay team consisting of Caleb Titus, Patrick Graber, Eric Olson, and Quint Terry.  

Placing second for the team were Blaine Rickets in the mile with a time of 5:45, Eric Olson in the 800 with a time of 2:24, Dylan McGarry in the high jump with a height of 5'2", and Casey Greavue in the pole vault with a height of 7".

City Council adopts ordinance to repair portion of Columbus Avenue

There were five ordinances on the agenda.

Four of those ordinances were finance ordinances.

Councilman David Henry explained that two of the finance ordinances that were adopted are for transferring funds and to except bids for the repair of East Columbus Avenue. (Audio interviews included.)

Jordan rated top taxpayers' friend in Ohio

Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) has been named a recipient of the 2007 Taxpayers' Friend Award by the nation's largest pro-taxpayer group, the 362,000-member nonpartisan National Taxpayers Union (NTU).

The award is presented to members of Congress who achieve an "A" rating in the NTU's annual report analyzing congressional votes on fiscal policy. In 2007, 427 House votes were rated.

West Liberty-Salem nips Triad, Morgan pitches Lakers to another win

ball_and_bat_photo_on_4-08.jpgSeveral of our local high school baseball and softball teams were involved in league games last night.

The Bellefontaine varsity baseball team rallied to beat host Tipp City 5-3 in nine innings.

The Chiefs scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game at 3-3.

Josh Kauffman had the game-tying hit.
