Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana)
On Thursday, Republican Congressman Jim Jordan of Urbana released a column indicating that the Congress must act boldly to address the energy crisis.
He goes on to state that "the rising cost of energy affects every family and business in America, whether through increased fuel prices, higher home heating expenses, or more of our family dollar spent on groceries and other necessities."

The Bellefontaine Branch of the National Association of Letter Carriers, in conjunction with the U.S. Post Office and the AFL-CIO will be conducting a food drive this Saturday to help families in Logan County.
Donations of canned goods and other non-perishable food items can be left near mailboxes on walking routes or in mailboxes on rural routes.

Despite the rain, a few local baseball teams played last night.
In JV baseball, West Liberty-Salem defeated host Cedarville 13-1 in five innings.
Zach Woodruff fired a one-hitter and recorded 11 strikeouts.
Offensively, Brad Frantz had four hits and three RBI's.

The Ohio EPA will hold an information session and hearing at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21st to accept comments regarding a request to expand Cherokee Run Landfill by 2.04 million cubic yards.
The facility is located on Route 68 approximately two miles north of Bellefontaine.
The additional waste would be placed on top of existing disposal areas. At the currently permitted rate of no more than 4,500 tons daily, the expansion would add an estimated 2.3 years to the life of the landfill.

More than 46 countries honor mothers with a special day, but not all celebrate on the same day. Several people throughout history have been linked to the original Mother's Day celebration, but one name continues to stand out as the person responsible for the United States declaring Mother's Day as a National Holiday.
Anna Jarvis, who's mother Mrs. Anna M. Jarvis, had been instrumental in developing “Mothers Friendship Day” which was part of the healing process of the Civil War. In honor of her mother, Miss Jarvis wanted to set aside a day to honor all mothers, living and dead. (Video interviews included.)
