Power of Purple week kicked off Monday

The kick-off to the Power of Purple week was held Monday evening in front of the courthouse, and ended with a lap around the courthouse.

The American Cancer Society Cancer Auction Network bus was parked along Columbus Avenue beside the courthouse, and the "bus rally" was held after the lap was completed.

Indian Lake, WLS earn top seeds in softball, Raiders to meet the Lakers in baseball

indian_lake_logo.jpgThe Southwest District held the sectional baseball and softball tournament draw Sunday.

In baseball, many of our local schools are part of the Division II Urbana sectional.

Kenton Ridge was awarded the top seed.

Bellefontaine was voted the Number 7 seed. The Chiefs will host Milton-Union on Tuesday, May 13th.

Tigers and Chiefs win Urbana Invitational

track_and_field_shot_on_3-08.jpgThe West Liberty-Salem girls track and field team placed 1st at the 7-team Urbana Invitational on Saturday.

Girls Team Scores:  1st WLS 116.5, 2nd Benjamin Logan 112, 3rd Miami East 104.75, 4th London 101.75, 5th Urbana 88, 6th Bellefontaine 79, 7th Cedarville 31

Hillary Seely gave the Lady Tigers their only first place finish winning the 3200 meter run. Kelsie Markin contributed a pair of second place finishes in the 1600 meter run and in the pole vault where she tied with teammate Hannah Ropp. Heather Bumbalough placed second in the 300 meter hurdles. The 4x800 relay team of Seely, Markin, Courtney Karg and Christine Naderer also placed second.

Overbey powers Huntsville in Tee Ball

baseballs.jpgHuntsville #2 Fire/EMS defeated Belle Center #2 18-14 yesterday afternoon in Tee Ball.

The game was part of a preseason tournament.

For Huntsville, Cole Overbey blasted a home run and a double.

Caden Roberts recorded a single and a double.

Chloe Burba had two doubles.

Huntsville will play West Liberty #4 on Saturday.

 
Area gas station robbed by its own employee

gas_america_photo_on_5-08.jpgIt didn't take long for law enforcement to solve a theft at Gas America in Anna early this morning.

Around 3:20 a.m., the Shelby County Sheriff's Office responded to a call at the gas station on East Main Street, near I-75.

A patron reported the attendant was possibly missing and the business was locked. However, the gas station is a 24-hour a day business.
