Bellefontaine woman sent to prison

Five defendants were sentenced and one pled guilty before Logan County Common Pleas Court Judge Mark O'Connor earlier this week.

David Hempker, 22, of Cridersville, was sentenced to three years in prison for burglary.

Alyssa Holmes, 20, of Bellefontaine, was sentenced to twelve months in the Ohio Reformatory for Women for theft after she refused to attend the West Central Community Corrections Facility.

Ricky Anderson, 20, of Lima, was sentenced to thirty days in the Logan County Jail, placed on community control for five years and ordered to pay a $250 fine, attorney fees and court costs for the charge of receiving stolen property.

Injury crash near West Mansfield

ohio_state_patrol.gifA West Mansfield teen suffered minor injuries in a one-vehicle accident in rural Logan County just after seven-thirty Tuesday morning.

The Marysville Post of the State Highway Patrol reports that a 2008 Chevy Cobalt driven by Krista Rumney, 18, crashed on State Route 47 near State Route 292.

Rumney was eastbound when she swerved to avoid a deer in the road.

Her vehicle went off the right side of the road and struck two trees.

Bokescreek Fire and EMS transported her to Mary Rutan Hospital.

Riverside celebrates new school year

pirate_pride_picnic_8-19-08_002.jpgThe first-ever Pirate Pride Picnic was held on the front lawn of the Riverside Local Schools building Tuesday.

A cookout along with various activities for students, parents, community members and employees of the district were available from 4:30-6:00.

Debbie Hughes, a mother of several children in the Riverside School District, played a crucial role in orchestrating the event to help invite the community to see what Riverside Schools have to offer and to help students gear up for the new school year. (Audio interview and pictures included.)

DeGraff cleaning up properties and crime

degraff_village_council_6-17-08.jpgDeGraff Village Council met in regular session on Tuesday evening. Village council and the police chief are busy cleaning up.

The council approved a resolution for Mayor Fawcett and Police Chief Piersall to take further action against property owners that were notified earlier in the year to clean up their properties. There are nine properties left in the village that have taken no effort to comply with the notifications given to them in March and July.

The village has offered services to the elderly of the community that are unable to clean up their properties. The residents must be at least 62 or older. There is also a financial needs basis that determines what assistance can be given. (Video interview included.)

Ohio Hi-Point welcomes new staff

The new instructors were introduced and recognized at a district in-service this week prior to the start of the new school year.

Some of the new staff is pictured on the left.

New staff members to OHP include: Charles Bertschman (Intervention Satellite), Sheila Clarkson (Project SEARCH aide), Stacy Colwell (early-childhood ed. aide), Deborah Cox (Career-based Intervention Satellite), Jeffrey Cross (Career-based Intervention Satellite), Mark Curtner (Adult Ed. Technology), and Laura Donnelly (Health Technology).
