Mega Millions jackpot jumps to $170 million Print E-mail

mega_millions_photo_on_5-08.jpgThere has been another rollover in the grand prize for the Mega Millions multistate lottery - to $170 million.

The rollover occurred because no player matched all the winning numbers from Friday night's $146 million drawing.

The next Mega Millions drawing will be Tuesday night.

Although there was no grand prize winner, eight players nationwide won prizes of $250,000 apiece. Another 56 players won prizes of $10,000 apiece.

The winning numbers from Friday night's drawing were: 21, 27, 46, 52, and 55. The Mega Ball number was 14.

 
Shepherd pleads guilty to Wharton murder Print E-mail

A Hardin County man charged with killing three women has pled guilty to murder in one of the deaths.

Terry Shepherd, 40, of Patterson, told a Wyandot County judge yesterday that he strangled 78-year-old Claradell Keller of Wharton after she surprised him while he was robbing her house in late September. Shepherd said he left the woman's body on a bed and set the house on fire.

Judge Kathleen Aubry did not set a date for sentencing.

Shepherd also is charged in the deaths of Kenton residents Deborah England, 52, and Judy Kearly, 57.

Culvert replacement on tap for County Roads Print E-mail

road_closed.jpgCrews from the Logan County Highway Department will be replacing culverts in advance of the 2009 Resurfacing Program.

A culvert on County Road 23 between TR 78 and CR 58 is scheduled to be replaced from December 8th through December 10th.

A culvert located on County Road 24 between CR 21 and TR 207 has a project date of December 8th through December 9th.

Closures are weather permitting, and will occur between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

The Bellefontaine Board of Education has selected an alum to lead the district.

During a special meeting at the board office Friday morning, Beth Harman was introduced as the district's new superintendent.

Harman (formerly Beth Belser) graduated from Bellefontaine High School in 1974.

After earning her undergrad degree at Bowling Green, she started working at BCS in 1978.

Harman was a teacher at Southeastern Elementary for 19 years. (Audio interviews and pictures included.)
