With Thanksgiving nearing, many families are beginning to plan for the big feast. Turkey is the most common meat that is served at Thanksgiving. With so many people involved in family dinners and eating out, food safety is a concern. Following are six of the common questions that individuals ask most often.
1. How long will turkey last in the freezer? It is safe to use a turkey I've had frozen since last Thanksgiving?
A: Yes, a whole frozen turkey can be stored in your home freezer at 0 degrees F for up to one year without appreciable loss of quality. To prevent freezer burn, wrap the turkey in heavy freezer paper.

Judge O'Connor
Three defendants were sentenced and one changed her plea before Logan County Common Pleas Court Judge Mark O'Connor earlier this week.
Toby Brooks, 23, of Urbana, was sentenced to three years in prison after admitting to a community control violation. He originally pled guilty to burglary and attempted intimidation of a witness.
Caroline Leichner, 39, of Huntsville, was sentenced to thirty days in the Logan County Jail, placed on community control for five years, and ordered to pay a $250 fine, restitution, attorney fees, and court costs for possession of drugs.

Officials say Pike County in southern Ohio had the state's highest unemployment rate last month: 10.5 percent.
The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services has released county and city unemployment figures today, a few days after the agency reported the statewide jobless rate in October was 7.3 percent, up slightly from September's 7.2.
Logan County's unemployment rate slightly decreased from 6.6 percent in September to 6.5 percent last month.

Ohio law enforcement authorities are participating in a regional crackdown on holiday motorists who violate seat belt and other traffic safety laws.
Midwest administrator Michael Witter with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the effort is focusing on nighttime hours from Tuesday through this weekend and has a simple goal: to save lives. He says officers don't enjoy writing tickets but it's far worse to have to notify next of kin after a fatal crash.
The State Highway Patrol says 14 people were killed in Ohio crashes last year over the Thanksgiving holiday period.

Snowy and icy roads led to numerous accidents across Logan County this morning.
The Bellefontaine Police Department, State Highway Patrol, and Logan County Sheriff's Office responded to crashes.
There were a few slide-offs on Route 33, an accident on State Route 47 about two miles east of Bellefontaine, and a crash on South Detroit Street near Lake Avenue in the city.
The sheriff's office says a tanker overturned on Route 33 near County Road 10 just before eight o'clock.
