Riverside RIF's two teachers, considers other cuts Print E-mail

riverside_board_meeting_from_10-23-08.jpgThe Riverside Board of Education convened in front of a large crowd last night for their regular monthly meeting.

The board unanimously voted to eliminate or RIF (reduction in force) two teaching positions at the end of the school year.

Because of a budget crunch, school leaders said the cuts were necessary.

The administration said the district will save over $130,000 by cutting an industrial arts position and a physical education teaching spot in June. (Audio interviews included.)

Pair of injury accidents near Bellefontaine Print E-mail

state_patrol_cruiser_on_8-08.jpgThe Marysville Post of the State Highway Patrol responded to a couple of minor injury accidents in Logan County Thursday.

Troopers were sent to a one-vehicle crash on State Route 47 west of County Road 32 shortly after three-thirty in the afternoon.

An eastbound motorist went off the right side of the road and struck a tree.

The driver was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital by Bellefontaine Fire and EMS.

Her car suffered heavy damage.

The patrol has not released the driver's name and the accident remains under investigation.

Many pieces of artwork were included in the Susan Faulkner Fine Arts Exhibition and Auction at the Hilton Easton on October 19th through the 21st.

2008 Benjamin Logan High School graduate Ross Barnes received a $500 scholarship from OAGC for his artwork.

The following Benjamin Logan students whose artwork was displayed and auctioned were Dylan McGarry, Dasia Wentworth, Carrie Hildreth, Kaylie Trout, Hope Whitacre, Scarlet Tevis, and Ross Barnes.

Ball found NOT guilty on all charges Print E-mail

James Ball
James Ball, 24, at large, was acquitted Thursday afternoon on felony charges of attempted murder, aggravated burglary, and felonious assault.

The jury of eight men and four women deliberated for less than two hours in Logan County Common Pleas Court.

Mr. Ball was arrested and charged with felonious assault for allegedly stabbing Jared Harshbarger, 20, multiple times at Harshbarger's 1449 South Main Street apartment shortly after five a.m. on May 24th.

Lakeview Elementary recently received a special honor from the Ohio Department of Education.

The school has been recognized as a State Superintendent's School of Promise for the 2007-2008 school year.

Good teaching and high expectations for all students can overcome high levels of poverty, State Superintendent Susan Tave Zelman said as she announced Ohio’s 146 Schools of Promise.
