riverside_board_meeting_from_10-23-08.jpgLevy proposals remained the main topic at the Riverside school board meeting Thursday evening.

School board treasurer Lisa Fahnke presented a request for a  .75% five-year income tax levy to be added to a May 5th special election.  The income tax is currently in existence but will expired December, 31, 2009.

An emergency property tax levy to produce $700,000 was also discussed as Fahnke explained a potential for a $1.7 million short fall by the 2010-2011 school year.

School Board president Jim Cox said the community “voted down the best thing,” referring to the defeated 2% replacement tax that was on the November ballot, but went on to say that "by the end of January a plan is needed and numbers have to be generated."  (Audio interviews included.)

Fire Chief J.P. Schulz
A Bellefontaine family lost their doghouse in a fire yesterday, but their large dog was not hurt.

The Bellefontaine Fire Department responded to the Scott and Valerie Elliott residence at 305 East Williams just after noon.

The fire destroyed the doghouse and damaged a nearby fence.

Firefighters say the family's mastiff is doing fine.

The fire was caused from a heat lamp in the doghouse.

The doghouse was worth about $200.
