Teachers and students argue that a confusing txt booklet set-up may have caused some test-takers to fail the writing portion of the exam. The state Department of Education says about 40 school districts are complaining about the writing section of the Ohio Graduation Test. Some students were confused and unintentionally skipped an essay question that makes up more than one-third of the section's score. At issue is a page in the text booklet marked, "this page intentionally left blank." The second of two essay questions came after the controversial page. Some students thought the blank page meant the test was over. The state says the booklet--and the instructions proctors give students--make it clear that the exam has 2 essay questions. The last page of the test is marked with a "STOP" symbol. Students unhappy with their scores as sophomores have six more chances to take the test. |
