BHS played host to district OMEA contest.

Bellefontaine High School hosted the District Ohio Music Education Association Band and Choir Contest this past Friday and Saturday. Schools from all around the area competed for a chance at the state competition. In order to qualify for the State OMEA Contest, groups must receive a “superior” rating of I.

The Indian Lake Honors Choir under the direction of Ms. Joyce King received an “excellent” rating of II.  The Indian Lake band received a II.  Two Bellefontaine High School choirs competed under the direction of Mr. Allen Hadley. The Bellefontaine High School Honors Choir received a “superior” rating of I and the Bellefontaine Women’s Glee brought back an “excellent” rating of II. Two BHS bands competed as well under the direction of Mr. Joe Antram. The Bellefontaine High School Symphonic Band received a “superior” rating of I, and the BHS Concert band came back with an “excellent” rating of II.  The Benjamin Logan Concert band earned a I.  The Benjamin Logan Honors Choir received a II.

Groups are judged on stage performance as they play or sing 3 songs for judges, and also a sight-reading score is given as groups are presented a brand-new piece of music in which they have only a few minutes to look over before performing the new piece for the judge.

Best of luck to those groups moving on to State OMEA Competition.
