Lakers win again, Emerich powers the Pirates Print E-mail

indian_lake_logo.jpgA few of our local baseball and softball teams were in action yesterday.

In varsity baseball, Indian Lake defeated Waynesfield-Goshen 12-3.

Tyler Maddox was the winning pitcher.

The Lakers are 3-0.

Coach Tidwell's team (weather-permitting) will host Kenton today and then travel to New Bremen for a three-way doubleheader vs. New Bremen and Riverside tomorrow.

Bellefontaine outslugged Kenton 14-8.

The Chiefs are 2-0.

In varsity softball, Bellefontaine lost to Kenton 11-1.

Four Chieftain errors led to 11 unearned runs.

Bellefontaine managed just one hit.

Kara Morrison suffered the loss.

The Chiefs will open league play vs. Tipp City Monday afternoon at Blue Jacket Park.

Riverside opened its season by routing Fairlawn 17-1.

Sara Emerich tossed a complete game three-hitter and had 14 strikeouts.

Senior Lindsey Stevens led the offense with three hits, including two doubles.

Emerich had two hits and 3 RBI's.

Abby Heaberlin recorded two hits and 2 RBI's.

Lima Bath beat Benjamin Logan 6-0.

Because of rain, the game was called after five innings.

The Raiders are 1-2.

They will host Kenton in a doubleheader Saturday at noon.

Waynesfield-Goshen dropped their season opener, 6-2, vs. Allen East.

Freshman pitcher Shelby Gilroy tossed a very strong game for the Tigers.

She went the distance and recorded 12 strikeouts.

Gilroy scattered 7 hits and errors led to five unearned runs.

Kenzie Sheets went 2-2 and freshman Hailey Whitaker added a hit.
