There were five ordinances on the agenda. Four of those ordinances were finance ordinances. Councilman David Henry explained that two of the finance ordinances that were adopted are for transferring funds and to except bids for the repair of East Columbus Avenue. (Audio interviews included.) On E. Columbus, a culvert is to be replaced and a bridge reconstructed over the culvert just east of Hayes Street. Listen to Councilman Henry explain the financing for the Columbus Avenue project An ordinance making supplemental appropriations and amending Blue Jacket Park account and the Park Department capital expenditure account was also on the table. Henry explains the Blue Jacket Park ordinance There was also an ordinance authorizing the Service-Safety Director to enter into contract with the Tekcollect Audit Bureau of Columbus, Ohio. This company will be used for collection purposes for monies owed by citizens for the use of city services. Susan Froebe from The Downtown Bellefontaine Partnership gave a presentation to the council about the preservation of Court Street and improving City Parking Lot #3. The improvements would include sidewalk repairs, replacing lamp posts to match the new ones downtown, and putting educational markers on Court Street for tourists and students learning about the area. Froebe urged Bellefontaine City Council to approve an ordinance that would allow for the city to apply for a Tier II grant. The grant is for $100,000. The finance committee will be working with Froebe to apply for the grant. Bellefontaine City Council meets again on Tuesday, April 22nd at 7:30 p.m. Finally, there will be a hearing concerning the future of Court Street on May 13th at 6:45 p.m. City leaders are debating whether to close America's oldest concrete street or to repair it. |
