Chiefs, Tigers shine in track; Bratka sets school record Print E-mail

The West Liberty-Salem track and field teams hosted a 6-team home meet Tuesday evening.

On the boys side, Bellefontaine placed 1st with 177 points.

The host Tigers were 2nd with 162, 3rd place Northwestern 92, 4th Triad 41, 5th Springfield Catholic Central 29 and 6th Fairlawn 20.

For the Tigers, junior Nate Bratka placed 1st in the discus. He set a new school record with a throw of 165'3".

Also placing first for the Tigers were Justus Murphy in the pole vault and Eric Salley in the 400 meter dash.

In the girls meet, Bellefontaine also took home 1st place with 166 points.

The Lady Tigers finished a close second with 157, 3rd place Northwestern 113, 4th (tie) Triad and Fairlawn 36 and 6th Springfield Catholic Central 12.

First places for the Lady Tigers were provided by Courtney Karg in the 400 meter dash, Heather Bumbalough in the 300 meter hurdles, Michelle Mack in the 200 meter dash, the 4x800 relay team of Christine Naderer, Kelsie Markin, Hillary Seely and Karg, the 4x200 relay of Emily Evans, Kaycee Daniels, Hannah Hartsel and Mack and the 4x400 relay of Bumbalough, Hartsel, Daniels and Karg.

Bellefontaine standout Tomika Brown went 5'8" in the high jump to break a 20-year-old school record.

Donna Middlebrook had the previous record at 5'7".

WLS is back in action Friday at the Graham Invitational.
