In athletics, Morgan Zumberger was recognized for recently signing a letter of intent to play volleyball at Columbus State. (Video interview included.) Lindsey Stevens was recognized for signing a letter of intent to play softball at Rio Grande. The senior has starred in volleyball, basketball, and softball for the Pirates. The Riverside Powerlifting team was also acknowledged for their recent 1st place team award at a national competition in South Bend, Indiana. Under Coach Stewart, the team has an offer to compete in a world event in Belgium. FFA President Kevin Beatty, under his advisor Jody Carney, presented a school farm report. Debbie Hughes, recently appointed to the Parent Advisory Council for the state superintendent, told the board of the council's mission and goals. Watch Debbie Hughes as she talks about the Council's mission. The board offered a teaching contract to Patricia Reuther. Reuther, a government scientist who recently worked for Battelle Research Center and who has held speaking engagements in Asia and Europe, was enthusiastic about her new role. She will teach physical science in grades 9,11, and 12. In other news the board received a report from Bill Pizzino, who is a certified engineer, concerning the condition of the building. Mr. Pizzino advised the board that there is sufficient insulation in the building. However, he along with Eric Moser have found several areas inwhich the flashing is not working properly. The gutters have had problems, too. Further investigation continues. In an NWCC League Report, it was noted that as of the 08-09 school year, Yellow Springs will no longer be in Riverside's league. Against Coach Pizzino's vote, the league will now bring in Fostoria's St. Wendelin. The school's athletic department is seeking and considering other league options, in order to avoid traveling over 100 miles to compete with St. Wendelin. In other news, the board accepted the 08-09 Calendar, policy modifications on expeditures over $24,999, approval of the financial reports and 12 Employee contract renewals. The Board will meet with Riverside staff Monday, the 21st, at 5:00 p.m. followed by an in-service meeting at 6:00 p.m. The next regular meeting will be held May 22nd at 7:00 p.m. |
