Lady Tigers win Graham Invitational, BHS shines at Chieftain Relays Print E-mail

track_and_field_shot_on_3-08.jpgThe West Liberty-Salem girls track and field team placed first at the 9-team Graham Invitational Friday evening edging out 2nd place Indian Lake 97.5 to 93.

Other area placers were 5th Graham 82, 6th Urbana 73, and 8th Riverside 39.5.

Hannah Ropp was the sole first place finisher for the Lady Tigers; she won the pole vault.

Heather Bumbalough placed 2nd in the 100 hurdles and 3rd in the 300 hurdles, Hillary Seely placed 3rd in the 3200 meter run, and the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams placed second.

On the boys side, the Tigers took home runner-up honors behind Urbana.

Area team places were 1st Urbana 141, 2nd West Liberty-Salem 119, 3rd Indian Lake 91, 6th Riverside 52, and 7th Graham 47 1/2.

First place finishers for the Tigers were Justus Murphy in the pole vault, Joe Yoder in the high jump, Eric Salley in the 400 meter dash, and Lance Kitchen in the 300 meter hurdles.

The Tigers will host the BOSS Invitational sponsored by the Big Orange Shoe Shop on Friday with field events starting at 4:45 p.m.

Bellefontaine hosted the Chieftain Relays Friday night at Dodd Stadium.

Kettering Fairmont won the girls meet with 87.5 points.

Bellefontaine took second with 78 points.

The Lady Chiefs set two school records.

The shuttle hurdles team of Libby Hill, Julia Wetzel, Dominique Brown, and Tomika Brown finished first and set a school record at 1:07.61.

The sprint medley relay team of Haley McCloud, Danielle Hill, Kea Lewis, and Alyssa Elliott finished first in 1:55.82, which is a new school record.

The long jump team of Kea Lewis, Dominique Brown, and Tyleigh Ward finished in first.

Finally, the 400 relay team of Danielle Hill, Tomika Brown, Kea Lewis, and Alyssa Elliott took first.

On the boys side, Wapakoneta and Upper Arlington tied for first with 75 points.

Bellefontaine and Kettering Fairmont each scored 74 points and tied for third place.

BHS set three meet records.

The 400 relay team set a meet record in 42.89 seconds.

The sprint medley team of Brett Meadows, Keith Morgan, Chris Lowe, and Jeff Rollins placed first in a time of 1:35.90, which is a new meet record.

The 800 relay team of Chris Lowe, Brett Meadows, Jeff Rollins, and Keith Morgan finished first in a meet-record time of 1:30.53.
