bellefontaine_city_council_01-22-08.jpgBellefontaine City Council met in regular session on Tuesday evening. Several items were discussed including the Miami River Improvement Project, purchasing a skid loader and a hearing on the possible closing of the first concrete street in America.

The agenda included an ordinance to purchase a skid loader for the Street Department. The state contract price for the skid loader is $33,000. (Audio interviews included.)

Councilman David Henry said the skid loader will have longer arms, which will make it possible to get the "knooks and crannies" around the city during snow removal.

Henry said there is also a grinder wheel attachment that can be used to refurbish sidewalks and street surfaces.

Councilman Mark Fissel reminded council about the hearing for the closing of Court Street.

Fissel encourages any citizen, group, or business to attend the hearing so the city can decide what is best for the street.

The hearing will be at 6:45 p.m. prior to the May 13th council meeting.

During the "Communications From Citizens", Police Chief Brad Kunze asked the council about the Miami River Improvement Project.

Kunze said the project is a "significant issue to the citizens of this community."

Mayor Adam Brannon said that he sent a letter to the county commissioners, but has not received a response.
