Several of our local baseball and softball teams hit the diamond last night.
The Benjamin Logan varsity baseball team handled Tecumseh 8-1.
Jeremiah Kerns tossed a complete game four-hitter and led the offense with three hits.
Cousin Lee Kerns had two hits and three RBI's.
The Raiders are 8-7 overall and 5-4 in the CBC.
Benjamin Logan will host Greenon on Monday. (Audio interview included.) In freshman baseball, West Liberty-Salem drubbed Southeastern 15-2.
In 8th grade baseball, Indian Lake defeated Jonathon Alder 6-2.
Ben Frey, Zach Maier, and Zachary Johnson each had hits.
Maier and Dillon Johnston handled the pitching.
Coaches say the entire team played strong defense.
Varsity softball finals:
A large crowd was on hand to watch Indian Lake host Bellefontaine in a game dedicated to the fight against cancer. It was part of the Strike Out Cancer and Hit it Hard series around Ohio. Indian Lake head coach Scott Cramer says more than $1,000 was raised.
The game was a thriller; Indian Lake scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning and won 1-0.
Julianne Minnich led off the bottom of the seventh with a triple.
Chieftain ace Kara Morrison retired the next two batters, but then Becca Cooper delivered an RBI single to left field to drive in pinch runner Brooke Walton.
Lakers standout Jill Wildermuth fired a two-hitter to earn another win.
Morrison had both of Bellefontaine's hits.
Cooper led the Indian Lake attack by going 3-3.
Alain Pummell, Chelsey Hoyles, and Jessica Lininger added singles.
Indian Lake is 12-3 overall and 7-2 in the CBC.
Bellefontaine is 9-6, 5-4.
Riverside beat Waynesfield-Goshen 8-1.
Pirates ace Sara Emerich fired a no-hitter and recorded seven strikeouts.
Lindsey Stevens led the offense with three hits and two RBI's.
Abby Heaberlin had two hits and three RBI's.
Ashley Jones and Erica Snapp added two hits apiece.
Riverside is 6-5, 4-1.
Waynesfield is 1-7.
Benjamin Logan ran past Tecumseh 9-2.
Krista Young had three hits and an RBI.
India Slayback belted a triple and Taylor Terrill added a double.
The Raiders will host Greenon on Monday.
JV softball:
Benjamin Logan drubbed Tecumseh 27-2.
Lauren Bycynski tossed a three-hitter.
Deanna Dill had four hits and four RBI's, including a home run.
Kirsten Givens recorded four RBI's.
Tessa Drumm and Caroline Lehmon each had three RBI's.
Brooke Erwin was 4-5 with two RBI's.
The Raiders are 12-1 overall and 9-0 in league play.
Freshman softball:
Benjamin Logan lost 4-2 against Triad.
Haylee Goodrich, Jessica Davia, and Ciera Fields had hits.
8th grade fastpitch:
Indian Lake beat Ridgemont 17-4.
Spencer Minnich was the winning pitcher.
Allison Allen was 3-3 with a triple.
Taylor Drake had two hits, including a grand slam. Rivals Bellefontaine and Indian Lake will play high school baseball at Fifth Third Field in Dayton this afternoon. Chieftain skipper Mark Brunswick expects a tough challenge from the Lakers. Game time is 4:30. You can hear the game live on 1390 WBLL. Bellefontaine is 8-2 and Indian Lake is 8-4. |
