Bellefontaine High School government students were learning "hands on" today as they participated in Logan County Government Day.

The Logan County Educational Service Center in coordination with Logan County elected officials have provided this opportunity for high school students since 2002.

BHS government students were recently elected to office. The "newly elected county officials" spent the day with many of Logan County's elected leaders and learned how county government works.

The newly elected officials included:  Auditor, Engineer, Treasurer, Sheriff, Clerk of Courts, Recorder, Coroner, three Commissioner seats, Prosecuting Attorney, Common Pleas Judge, Municipal Court Judge, and two Family Court Judges.

Commissioners John Bayliss, Dave Knight, Jack Reser and Heidi Reser, Special Projects Coordinator at the Logan County ESC, have coordinated this event to introduce these young leaders to county government.

Judge Mark O'Connor conducted a swearing-in ceremony at 8:45 a.m. at the Logan County Commissioner's Office.

The students spent the morning with elected officials and toured the Logan County Juvenile Detention Center.

The Logan County Jail provided lunch and a tour of their facility for the students and the elected officials this afternoon.

This was the final Government Day of the school year. Benjamin Logan, Indian Lake, and Riverside took part in the same experience earlier this year.
