Megan Leiss, a junior from Riverside High School, will take on the role of leading the 40-chapter organization during the 2008-2009 school year. Leiss is a 4.0 student at Riverside High School and is active in basketball, volleyball, softball, cheerleading, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, FCCLA, student council, United Way, and Interact. "I've always wanted to be a teacher, and when I heard of the Teaching Professions Academy and the OFEA, I was very excited to join. When Mrs. Jarzab talked about this conference and announced the officer election in class one day, I just knew it was for me," stated Leiss, who believes the experience will pay dividends in helping her develop her leadership ability and growth as a future teacher. Leiss was not the only Ohio Hi-Point Teaching Professions student to excel at the OFEA conference, as 18 other students in both the Riverside and Marysville Satellite Programs attended the event in Akron. The conference benefits the students, as they compete in areas such as presentation skills, impromptu speech, leadership skills, and team preparation skills. Ohio Hi-Point TPA students earned top ten honors for their multi-media presentation, their poster, and their scrapbook. They received third place awards in poetry and their display presentation, as well as receiving the Honors Chapter Award.
