The accolades continue for the Bellefontaine High School Band Program.

Two Bellefontaine bands performed at the State Band Finals Friday evening at Troy High School.

For the first time in school history, both bands qualified for the event by earning Superior ratings at the district level in March.

The Concert Band, which includes freshman and sophomore members, received a State Excellent rating.

The Symphonic Band, a mostly junior and senior group, was awarded a State Superior rating. This is the top honor given by the Ohio Music Education Association.

The judges' comments mentioned the band's superlative performance in expression and intonation.

Director Joe Antram is concluding his 30th year of teaching, including 24 years at Bellefontaine.

It's the 12th State Superior earned by the Bellefontaine Band Program. All of them have come during Antram's tenure.

Bellefontaine was the only local school to compete at the state finals.
