Tigers and Chiefs win Urbana Invitational Print E-mail

track_and_field_shot_on_3-08.jpgThe West Liberty-Salem girls track and field team placed 1st at the 7-team Urbana Invitational on Saturday.

Girls Team Scores:  1st WLS 116.5, 2nd Benjamin Logan 112, 3rd Miami East 104.75, 4th London 101.75, 5th Urbana 88, 6th Bellefontaine 79, 7th Cedarville 31

Hillary Seely gave the Lady Tigers their only first place finish winning the 3200 meter run. Kelsie Markin contributed a pair of second place finishes in the 1600 meter run and in the pole vault where she tied with teammate Hannah Ropp. Heather Bumbalough placed second in the 300 meter hurdles. The 4x800 relay team of Seely, Markin, Courtney Karg and Christine Naderer also placed second.

On the boys side WLS placed 4th overall.

Boys Team Scores:  1st Bellefontaine 140, 2nd Benjamin Logan 123.5, 3rd Urbana 120, 4th WLS 97.5, 5th London 65.5, 6th Miami East 42.5, 7th Cedarville 11

The Tigers' 4x800 relay team of Seth Baker, Matt Vogel, Brandon Shivley and Eric Salley placed first. Second place finishes for the Tigers were provided by Brice Baumgardner - long jump, Austin Wilson - high jump, Nate Bratka - discus and the 4x400 relay team of Salley, Baker, Baumgardner and Jake Anderson.

The Tigers host the King Classic on Friday evening with field events starting at 4:45 p.m.

Several Benjamin Logan girls turned in strong performances at Urbana.

Here are some of the results from the Graham Middle School Invitational track meet held on Thursday.

For the girls, Benjamin Logan was 8th out of the 13 participating teams.

Scoring for the Lady Raiders were:

Courtney Forsythe was 6th in the 1600m run

Marissa Wilbur was 5th in the 200m hurdles

Courtney Forsythe was 6th in the 800m run

Ciarra Wirick was 6th in the 400m dash

Kirsten Milton was 2nd in the pole vault

The 4x400m relay team of Kirsten Milton, Ciarra Wirick, Marissa Wilbur and Courtney Forsythe finished 3rd and set A NEW SCHOOL RECORD WITH A TIME OF 4:38.19.

Coaches congratulate the girls on breaking a 13 year-old record.

The Bellefontaine Middle School boys track team placed third at the 13-team Graham Middle School Invitational.  Team scores were:  Anna 87, Urbana 83.5, and Bellefontaine 58.  Individual placers for BMS were:
