chieftain_emblem_photo_on_8-15-05.jpgAfter a very disappointing loss to Kenton Ridge Monday night where Bellefontaine gave up a six-run lead, the Chiefs rebounded with a win over the Cougars Tuesday night at Blue Jacket Park. (Audio interview included.)

The Chiefs put together a big second inning when Mark Duffy doubled, Cody Mehl singled and Jace Mills hit a single to drive in Duffy. Mehl scored on a past ball and Josh Kauffman drove in Mills for the third run of the inning.

Kenton Ridge tied the game at three in the fifth inning when Derek Toadvine reached on an error and scored off an rbi double from Zack Jones. Jones would then score on a single from Juan Martinez.

Bellefontaine would go ahead to stay in their half of the fifth inning when Garman led off with his third single of the game, went to second on a single by Brock Mitchell, sacrificed to third by Mark Duffy and scored on a fielder’s choice. The Chiefs then executed a double steal when Adam Skelly stole second and Mitchell stole home on the throw to second. The Chiefs led 5-3.

The score stayed 5-3 heading into the top of the seventh inning. Winter gave up a lead off double to Jones, which was his third double of the game. Winter then hit Ethan Sharpin to put runners on first and second with no outs. Coach Brunswick then went to the bullpen and brought in Nolan Hunt. Hunt got Martinez to fly out to right field. Tyler Rinker singled to load the bases with one out. Hunt then got Palmer to fly out to center and McNeil to pop out to second to end the game.

Bellefontaine won the game 5-3.

The Chiefs improve to 11-7. Kenton Ridge falls to 14-5. The Chiefs will head to Urbana Thursday. Weather permitting; the game will be broadcast on WBLL.
