Riverside School Board
The Riverside Board of Education met in special session Tuesday evening. Board members started the meeting in executive session. The board then made the following approvals: Additional retirement severence for Cinda Blair and resignation of Linda Going, effective 4-22-08. In addition, the board also approved the virtual learning agreement with Logan County ESC for the 08/09 school year. (Video interview included.) Board President Jim Cox then addressed an upcoming levy for Riverside. Treasurer Lisa Fahncke announced that the district has the potential for being $800,000 over the operation budget by the end of the 07/08 school year if adjustments in spending are not made. The board along with staff and community members in the audience discussed suggestions for cuts. Watch Dee Dee Harshbarger as she discusses possible areas of cutbacks. Administration, maintenance, transportation, and personnel were all considered key areas inwhich there is potential for reductions. Athletics was also a topic of needed cost reductions. There will be a special board meeting Monday, May 12th at 5:00 p.m. that will be open to the public. The goal of the next meeting will be to approve or reject suggested cost reductions in order for treasurer Lisa Fahncke to provide a 5-year forecast. The next regular Board meeting will be May 22nd at 7:00 p.m. |
