The Lady Chiefs split a doubleheader with Sidney on Saturday at Blue Jacket Park losing the first game 1-0 and winning the second game 6-2.

The first game was a pitching gem that went into extra innings.  The Chiefs took charge of the second game to earn the split.

The first game was a pitcher’s duel with Kristen Roby for Sidney and Kara Morrison for Bellefontaine. Both teams were scoreless after seven with each  team only gathering two hits. Sidney scratched away a run in the top of the ninth inning when Roby was able to score on an Elyse Roddy single. Roby then shut down the Chiefs in order in the bottom of the ninth to get the complete game shutout.

Sidney jumped ahead early in the second game when they scored two off of Chieftain pitcher Justine Peterson in the top of the first inning. Roby singled and reached second on a wild pitch. Brandi Eustache then singled sending Roby to third. Roddy reached on an error scoring Roby and then Eustache scored before an inning ending double play was completed. The double play was scored an unusual 6-3-5. Those would be the only two runs Peterson would surrender on the day.

Bellefontaine would score in the third inning when Morrison would lead off with a double. Courtney Smith then sacrificed Morrison to third and Kelanie Garman singled Morrison in. Morrison actually got caught up in a run down, allowing Garman to take third base. Morrison scored when Sidney threw the ball away. Tiffany LeVan tied the game up with an rbi double to plate Garman. Brandi Conrad added another run when she drove in LeVan with a single. Bellefontaine would add three more runs in the fourth inning to ice the game. Peterson went the distance for the win.

After the split, the Chiefs record is 15-9. Sidney is now 18-6.
