Chiefs roll on Senior Night, Tigers achieve perfection Print E-mail

Bellefontaine used the long ball and dominant pitching to knock off Greenon.
Many area high school baseball and softball teams hit the diamond for regular season play last night.

As featured on 1390 WBLL, the Bellefontaine varsity baseball team steamrolled Greenon 10-0 in five innings.

It was Senior Night at Blue Jacket Park.

Before the game, seniors Grant Gleason, Tyler Kramer, Cody Mehl, Zach Horton, and Adam Wunderle were formally recognized. (Audio interview included.)

The Chiefs took control of the game early.

After the Knights failed to score in the top of the first inning, Bellefontaine scored four runs in their first at-bat.

The inning was highlighted by a two-run bomb by sophomore T.J. Garman.

Starter Brock Mitchell fired a one-hitter and struck out six to earn the win.

It was his first start in over a month.

At the plate, Josh Kauffman had a double, a home run, and four RBI's.

Mark Duffy, Zach Mosbarger, and Austen Pulfer each had two hits.

The Chiefs are 13-8 overall and 9-6 in the CBC.

Other varsity finals:

Indian Lake edged Springfield Shawnee 2-1.

Freshman Russ Hogue pitched 6 2/3 innings and struck out five to earn the win.

DJ Postle and Derek Welch each had an RBI.

Michael Morgan had two hits and got the save.

The Lakers are 13-9 overall.

Indian Lake visits Benjamin Logan tonight in the opening round of the sectional. First pitch is five o'clock and admission is $5.

Benjamin Logan lost 5-1 at Tipp City.

Gage Cochran led the Raiders with two hits.

Teammates Lee Kerns and Jeremiah Kerns added doubles.

Despite the loss, Benjamin Logan has clinched at least a tie for the CBC Mad River title.

The Raiders lead Northwestern by one game with one game remaining.

The Warriors lost 6-1 against Kenton Ridge last night.

Benjamin Logan can win the outright title by beating Springfield Shawnee later this week.

JV baseball:

Bellefontaine ran past Greenon 20-3.

Wayce Varian was the winning pitcher.

Sophomore Derrick Schmidt had a home run, a triple, and a double.

The Chiefs are 13-5.

Varsity softball:

West Liberty-Salem completed a perfect regular season by beating Graham 10-0 in five innings.

Senior Emily Kauffman posted another win.

Brittany Mayse had three hits and three RBI's and Haleigh Hickenbottom added two hits and two RBI's.

The Lady Tigers are 26-0. They open tournament play at home vs. Preble Shawnee tomorrow at five o'clock.

Bellefontaine blitzed Greenon 13-0 in five innings.

The Chiefs scored all of their runs in the first inning.

Kara Morrison fired a no-hitter and struck out eight.

At the plate, Tiffany LeVan and Kelanie Garman each had a double and two RBI's.

Katie Tarasiewicz recorded two singles and two RBI's.

Courtney Smith added two hits.

The Chiefs are 16-9 overall and 9-6 in league play.

Bellefontaine will play either Kenton Ridge or Springfield South in the tournament Thursday.

Riverside rallied to beat Ft. Loramie 4-3.

The Pirates scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game and then scored the winning run in the eighth inning.

Sonya Yoder had a two-run single in the seventh and then delivered the game-winning hit in the eighth.

On the night, Yoder had four hits and three RBI's.

Megan Hurley had three hits.

Abby Heaberlin recorded two doubles.

Sara Emerich added two hits.

Indian Lake defeated Springfield Shawnee 4-1 to clinch a share of the CBC Mad River title.

Jill Wildermuth struck out eleven to post her 19th win of the season.

Michelle Herren was 4-4 with a double.

Chelsea Cramer had two hits and three RBI's.

Wildermuth recorded two hits and one RBI.

Jessica Lininger, Julianne Minnich, and Kerstin Harmon added singles.

The Lakers are 20-3 overall and 13-2 in the CBC.

They play Tipp City today.
