The Joint Board of the Miami River Improvement Project will meet Thursday morning to discuss the future of the controversial project.

The meeting will be held at 11:30 at the Logan County Engineer's Highway Garage meeting room at 1991 County Road 13.

The joint board includes commissioners from Logan, Hardin, Champaign, Shelby, and Auglaize Counties.

The board met in special session on May 6th.

At that meeting, Commissioner John Bayliss requested that Logan County opt out of the cleanup project.

Before accepting that motion, the joint board wanted to receive more legal advice from the prosecutor in each county.

Local residents have been adamant that Logan County should not be a part of the project after a referendum issue was soundly defeated last November.

The project calls for a $25 per parcel assessment fee and an annual $2.50 maintenance fee.
