Tim Clark from Smash It Demolition Derby was on hand to offer a junior demo derby to 12 to 16 year olds. Commissioner Jack Reser explained to the board that the insurance policy would not allow such a liability to the fair or to the county. The Fair Board did however accept an offer for a Lawn Mower Demo Derby to be held during the 2008 Fair. (Audio interview included.) In other news, Managing Secretary Jackie Woods acknowledged the fair's need for a parking crew. Listen to Jackie Woods explain. The board approved April's minutes and the Treasurer's Report. Animal tagging and photos for the upcoming fair have been completed. Trespassing and vandalism continues on the fairgrounds. The sheriff's office is following up on incidents. May 19th is the court hearing for youths accused of previous vandalism on the grounds. The construction for the new bathrooms and shower is scheduled for mid June with a July 1st completion date. The board addressed concerns with their quality assurance procedures. The Fair Board stated that they follow the State (ODA) rules along with county rules when qualifying Junior Fair entries. The board voted one of its members off. Donna Stoner of Richland Township failed to attend the last four board meetings so the decision was made to seek a replacement. The board went into executive session to discuss an issue involving board member Jeff Overs of Bloomfield Township. Overs' daughter, Rachael, showed a reserve grand champion lamb at the 2007 Ohio State Fair that tested positive for Lasix. The Overs family has been banned from participating in the state fair for one year. The board voted unanimously for Overs to retain his position. The next Fair Board meeting will be June 11th at 7:30 p.m. The Logan County Fair runs July 8th-13th. |
