The Logan County Convention & Tourism has allocated $2,500 to provide gasoline and bus drivers for each of Logan County's 3rd grade classes, so that they may take a field trip of their teacher's choosing.  Itineraries offered include tours of Logan County landmarks and abbreviated tours of some attractions.

The first tour is on Friday, May 16th with Northeastern. Their schedule is as follows:

1.       Highest Point (Campbell Hill/Ohio Hi-Point Career Center) kids get off bus 9:15-9:30

2.       Flatwoods School (West Mansfield) tour/restrooms 9:45-10:15

3.       Zane Cabin (corner of Sandusky St./Co. Rd. 10 in Zanesfield) kids get off bus 10:30-10:45

4.       Zane-Kenton Memorial (Route 5 south edge of Zanesfield) (drive-by) 10:45

5.       Wapatomica (intersection of Co. Rd. 5 & Co. Rd. 29) drive-by 11:00

6.       Castle Mac-A-Cheek Tour/Lunch 11:15-12:30 (divide into 2 groups 1 will tour while one eats/vice versa

7.       Pioneer House (10107 Twp. Rd 47) kids get off bus but not tour 12:45

CTB has been working on this project for the past year.  Todd McCormick, CT Council Member and Logan County Museum Curator, has worked diligently to create curriculum to fit within state standards and has also provided teachers with supporting activities for the classroom.  He has organized the itineraries and provided Historical Society volunteers to conduct the tours.

Molli Jackson, Logan County ESC, has helped roll out this program to the school's administrators and teachers.  This program was created in an effort to educate children about their own local history.

While at the Highest Point.... people may be wondering what is going on next door to you at the Park & Ride at US 33 and SR 540.  The Logan County CTB is building a "Welcome Center" so that visitors to Logan County can pick up brochures for local attractions and lodging.  This Welcome Center will open sometime next month and will remain open through the end of summer.

The Ohio Hi-Point Career Center's Masonry and Building Maintenance students designed and constructed the Welcome Center. Expenses of the project were also reduced by donations of time and materials by Beasley Architecture & Design, Bellefontaine Joint Recreation District, Mr. Concrete Builders Supply, Ohio Ready Mix and Fast Track Signs.

The OHP students will be working on-site from approximately 9 am to 11 am each day until the end of the school year, weather-permitting.
