Brock Mitchell at bat against Northwestern
Tyler Stephenson hit two home runs, five rbi's and pitched a complete game in pacing the Northwestern Warriors to an 11-2 win over Bellefontaine in the sectional semifinals. Stephenson’s first home run came in the second inning with the Warriors leading 2-0. Kyle Lease and Ryan Pearson also came around to score. At that point, the Warriors led 5-0. (Audio interview included.) Northwestern led 7-0 before Mark Duffy hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning to give the Chiefs their only runs of the game.
Stephenson hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning to cap off the Warriors scoring.
Northwestern will play Kenton Ridge in the sectional final on Saturday. The Warriors record is now 20-8 while the Chiefs season ends at 14-9. Listen to Mark Brunswick's postgame interview.

Other baseball tournament finals: Benjamin Logan defeated host Urbana 7-2. Senior Lee Kerns went the distance to earn the win. Shane James led the offense with two hits, including a double. Trent Kuhn blasted a triple and Gage Cochran delivered a two-run single. The Raiders collected eleven hits. Benjamin Logan improves to 17-8. They will play Tipp City in the sectional title game Saturday morning at Blue Jacket Park. First pitch is ten o'clock. The Red Devils beat Springfield Shawnee 5-3. Kenton Ridge edged Dayton Carroll 3-2. Covington knocked off Riverside 7-4. Lehman outscored Triad 13-6. Softball tournament finals: Bellefontaine dropped a 3-2 thriller at Kenton Ridge. The Chiefs scored a run in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game at 2-2, but the Cougars scored the game-winning run in the bottom half of the inning. Justine Peterson led the BHS offense with two singles, a triple, and two RBI's. Kara Morrison and Kelanie Garman added doubles. Bellefontaine is 16-10. Indian Lake blanked Springfield Shawnee 7-0. Ace Jill Wildermuth tossed a five-hitter. Chelsey Hoyles had two hits. Michelle Herren, Chelsea Cramer, Julianne Minnich, Alain Pummell, Becca Cooper, and Wildermuth added hits. The Lakers are 21-4. They will face Tipp City in the sectional title game Saturday morning at Blue Jacket Park. Game time is ten o'clock. Northwestern beat Benjamin Logan 6-0. The Warriors will face Kenton Ridge in the sectional title game Saturday. Riverside lost to Houston 4-2. Megan Hurley led the Pirates with a single and an RBI. Riverside is 13-10. Triad defeated Ft. Loramie 7-1. Russia edged Jackson Center 2-1. Ansonia handled Mechanicsburg 10-0. |
