Tigers take second in league track meet, Jr. High teams dominate Print E-mail

The WLS boys track team was featured on "Chalk Talk" earlier this spring.
The West Liberty-Salem girls track and field team placed second behind Greeneview at the Ohio Heritage Conference meet on Thursday at Mechanicsburg.

Girls Team Scores:  1st Greeneview 136.5, 2nd WLS 123.5, 3rd Cedarville 62, 4th Southeastern 55, 5th Mechanicsburg 39, 6th Northeasthern 38, 7th Catholic Central 37, 8th Triad 33

For the Lady Tigers Hannah Ropp placed first in the pole vault to receive first team All-OHC honors. Also placing first for the Lady Tigers were the 4x200 relay team of Emily Evans, Kaycee Daniels, Hannah Hartsel and Michelle Mack and the 4x100 relay team of Evans, Daniels, Heather Bumbalough and Mack.

The Tigers boys team also placed second behind first place Northeastern.

Boys Team Score:  1st Northeastern 149, 2nd WLS 125, 3rd Mechanicsburg 99, 4th Greeneview 63, 5th Cedarville 34, 6th Southeastern 24, 7th Triad 23, 8th Catholic Central 10.

First place finishers for the Tigers were Lance Kitchen in the 300 meter hurdles, Justus Murphy in the pole vault and the 4x400 relay team of Jake Anderson, Eric Salley, Joe Yoder and Kitchen.

The Tiger thinclads are back in action Wednesday at the DIII Southwest District Meet in West Milton.

The West Liberty-Salem middle school girls track and field team dominated the Ohio Heritage Conference Meet on Thursday at Mechanicsburg, winning the meet with 178 points.

Girls Team Scores:  1st WLS 178, 2nd South Vienna 115, 3rd Mechanicsburg 65, 4th Miami View 36, 5th Cedarville 32, 6th Catholic Central 23, 7th Greeneview 12, 8th Triad 4.

Meghan Vogel paced the Lady Tigers with first place finishes in the 1600 and 800 meter runs. Vogel set the OHC record in the 1600 meter run.   Other first place finishes were provided by Alexis Smith in the 100 meter hurdles, Janelle VanHorn, high jump, Melany Ward 200 meter hurdles, Katie Evans, shot put, the 4x100 relay team of Maria Daulton, Alyssa Neff, Andrea Markin and Ward, the 4x200 relay team of Ward, Savannah Shipp, Brenna Hayes and Daulton and the 4x400 relay team of Smith, Addy Hartsel, VanHorn and Vogel.

The Lady Tigers finish the season with a 44-1 record and are coached by Mike Freese, Mike Roberts and Dan Miller.

The Tigers were also OHC champions on the boys side, racking up 141 points.

Boys Team Score:  1st WLS 141, 2nd South Vienna 104, 3rd Cedarville 56, 4th Miamiview 52, 5th Mechanicsburg 46, 6th Greeneview 32, 7th Catholic Central 16, 8th Triad 13.

Zach Konkle and Ryan Meister led the way for the Tigers with two individual first places each.  Konkle won the 110 and 200 meter hurdles and Meister won the 1600 and 800 meter runs.  All three relay teams also placed first including the 4x100 team of Michael Yoder, Greg White, Michael Mack and Konkle, the 4x200 relay team of Mack, J.J. Birt, Cameron Ward and Anthony Allen and the 4x400 relay team of Ward, Birt, Yoder and Meister.
