The West Liberty-Salem softball team made school history Saturday afternoon.

As featured on 1390 WBLL, the Tigers defeated North Union 4-1 in the Division III regional title game at Wright State University.

The Wildcats struck first with a run in the bottom of the second inning.

The Tigers then took control of the game in the top of the fourth inning.  Once again it was the #9 hitter Sami Konkle leading the charge.  Sami stepped up with two outs and roped an RBI double which broke the 1-1 tie.  Then the top of the order followed with back-to-back RBI hits with Abbey Ledford's single and Devon Woodruff's triple.  The Tigers led 4-1.

That was more than enough for senior ace Emily Kauffman who scattered seven hits and went the distance to help West Liberty-Salem earn its first-ever state berth in softball.

Catcher Haleigh Hickenbottom picked off two runners on base squashing potential rallies by North Union.

Konkle led the hitting going 2 for 2 with a double, single, RBI, run scored and a sacrifice.  Sami went 4 for 5 in the two Regional games with 2 RBI's and the game winner Thursday night.  Brittany Mayse was 1 for 4 with a single and two runs scored while Devon Woodruff had an RBI triple.

North Union finishes the season at 23-4 while West Liberty-Salem is now 31-1 and will play in the State Semi-Finals Thursday afternoon at 3:00 against Wellington on WBLL "The Bell".
