This camp will teach each member what it takes to be a sports broadcaster. Campers will learn how to do play-by-play, interview coaches and athletes, debate sports topics, gather news and much more. The WPKO & WBLL Sportscasters Camp is for ages 12-18 and is open to everyone. The camp runs Monday June 23rd through Friday June 27th from 9:00-1:00 each day at the Hilliker YMCA on Sloan Blvd. Plus one night the campers are invited to Blue Jacket Park where they will deliver play-by-play for an ACME baseball game on 1390 WBLL. The game will be Thursday night. (This game night is optional for all campers. Just because you can't make the broadcast game don't miss the rest of this camp!) During the week campers will learn from radio's biggest names. WPKO & WBLL's Bill Tipple will show how to gather news and interview on Monday. Tom Hamilton of the Cleveland Indians will talk to eveyone on Tuesday morning and George Matthews from the Columbus Blue Jackets will visit on Friday. Plus each day we'll have play-by-play training getting ready for Thursday night's broadcast. Other activities will include debating sports topics with our own version of the ESPN show Pardon the Interuption, sports trivia contests, rules of the game, how sports work on the radio and a few surprises. All this and more will be at the WPKO & WBLL Sporstcasters Camp at the Hilliker YMCA. One week of this camp is only $20.00 for current YMCA members and $30.00 for non-members. All of the money raised from this camp will stay with the Hilliker YMCA. Seating is limited! To reserve a seat contact the Hilliker YMCA at 592-YMCA or call WPKO & WBLL at 592-1045. |
