West Central Ohio dodged a strong storm that hit many parts of the state last night.

High winds knocked out power to thousands throughout Ohio and National Weather Service investigators plan to check out a few reports of tornadoes.

No major injuries have been reported from storms that began pounding the state around six p.m.

Residents outside of Middle Point, near Van Wert, saw a twister reach within 100 feet of the ground.

Authorities also say strong winds may have caused a freight train to derail southeast of Toledo.

American Electric Power reported scattered outages Tuesday, including 5,500 out in the Lima area.

In Logan County, a tree was removed after falling on State Route 235 north of DeGraff last night.

Local firefighters were sent to check out a reported funnel cloud east of the Cherokee Run Landfill shortly after six p.m.

Authorities say nothing was found.

The Champaign County Sheriff's Office received reports of a funnel cloud near Kiser Lake around seven p.m.

The Allen Township Fire Department helped remove a downed tree on State Route 245 around three o'clock this morning.

Crews removed downed trees in Shelby and Auglaize Counties, too.

No power outages were reported in Logan or surrounding counties.

Thunderstorms are possible Friday and Saturday.
