Obituaries

Ruth Helen McIntosh 

Ruth Helen McIntosh, 96, of West Liberty and formerly of De Graff, died at 11:45 AM Monday, November 17, 2008, at Green Hills Center, West Liberty.

She was born Wednesday, October 30, 1912, in Rushsylvania, OH, a daughter of the late Loren and Maggie Drake Flickinger.

On October 11, 1935, she married Harold Robert McIntosh  in Bellefontaine and he died December 15, 2004. She was also preccded in death by two sisters; Cora Kilgore and Edith Crisler; two brothers, Fred and John Flickinger and one grandson, Mark McIntosh.

Survivers include two Sons & Daughters in Law, Richard & Janet McIntosh of South Charleston and Robert & Susie McIntosh of Olathe, KS; a Daughter & Son in Law, Barbara & Jerry Haas of De Graff; eight Grand Children; Dennis (Julie) McIntosh of West Liberty, David (Kelly) McIntosh of Urbana, Deanna McIntosh of De Graff, Darren (Dianna) McIntosh of Urbanna, Douglas (Veronica) McIntosh of West Liberty, Jeff (Lynne) Haas of Reyonaldsburg, Brenda (Michael) Carey of Grandville, Amy (Doug) Pursley of Overland Park, KS;

14 Great Grand Children and 2 Great Great.

She was a Licenced Practical Nurse having retired from Mary Rutan Hospital on November 1, 1974. She was also a member of De Graff United Methodist Church and a member of Semper Fidelis Sunday School Class of the church. She enjoyed doing needle point, crocheting and she was an avid sports fan.  

The family will receive friends at the Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home, De Graff on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008 from 4 to 8 PM. Services will be held at the funeral home at 3:30 PM on Thursday, November 20, 2008, with Pastors Bill Halter and Rob Kilgore officiating. Burial is in the Greenwood-Union Cemetery, DeGraff, OH.

The family request that memorial donations be made to De Graff United Methodist Church Building Fund, the West Liberty EMS or Wilson Hospice Care.

Margaret Fern White

Margaret Fern White

Margaret Fern White, 82, of Russells Point, passed away at 2:20 p.m. on Sunday, November 16, 2008 at Mary Rutan Hospital, Bellefontaine, Ohio.

She was born on October 3, 1926 in Alzada, Montana, the daughter of the late George and Opal Crofford Thompson.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a son, Terry (Sharon) Thompson of Huntsville; sister, Betty Schoenbeck, Belfield, North Dakota; grandchildren,

Mark (Beth) Thompson, Wapakoneta, Lori (Michael) Horn, Bellefontaine, Lisa (Ron) Borgerding, Huntsville; great-grandchildren,

Colby Boergerding, Hilary Horn, Haley Horn.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Thompson.

Friends may call on Thursday, November 20th, 2008 from 6 - 8 p.m. at Sanford-Eichholtz Funeral Home Lakeview, Ohio.  Graveside services

at Highland Memorial Cemetery, West Liberty will be held at a later date.

Richard "Hatchet Jack" Smith

Richard "Hatchet Jack" Smith, 58, of Zanesfield, passed away Saturday, November 15th, at The Ohio State University Hospital.

Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, November 19th from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday, November 20th from noon to 1 p.m. at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine.

Services will be held Thursday, November 20th at 1 p.m. at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine.

Robert Lee Kessler 

Robert Lee Kessler, 74, of DeGraff, died at 6:30 PM Monday, November 17, 2008, at his residence in DeGraff.

He was born on October 17, 1934, in Sidney, Ohio, a son of the late Louis and Mary Steinley Kessler. He was also precceded in death by sons, Kenny Kessler and Darrell Kohli.

He married Patricia L. Shellaberger on April 19, 1974 in Sidney, Ohio and she survives. Other survives include three Sons and Daughters in Law; David (Jamie) Kessler of Snohomish, WA, Mark (Deb) Kohli of St. Paris, OH and Don (Kim) Kohli of St. Paris, OH; Son; David Kohli of Richwood, OH and two Daughters & Sons in Law; Kim (Tim) Kinninger of Rochsester, IN and Sarah (Don) Lattimer of Woodstock, OH; 9 Grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; Daughter in Law:  Soozie Deceast of DeGraff, OH.

He was a retired Asst. Manager at Odd Lots, a member of Holy Angels Church, Sidney, a member of the National Rifle Assn. (NRA), Single Action Shooters Assn (SASS) gun club, Indian Creek Regulators, Troy. He was a Deputy Sherriff in Washington State for 25 years and he served in the US Coast Guard during the Korean War.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, November 20, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m. Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 21, 2008 Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home, DeGraff, with Father Daniel Schmitmeyer officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

The family suggest memorial contributions be made to Hi-Point Regional Cancer Center or Universal Home Health and Hospice.

Ailene Yale Ryberg 

Ailene Yale Ryberg, 86, of Bellefontaine, passed away on Monday, November 17, 2008, at 11:40 p.m. at Lima Convalescent Home, Lima, Ohio

She was born on April 23, 1922, in Idabelle, Oklahoma to the late George C. and Eva Bond Pace.  She was also preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters.

She married her first husband, Carl A. Yale, Sr. on September 28, 1945 and he died on March 19, 1971.  She then married Lester A. Ryberg on May 13, 1978 and he died on April 15, 2000.

Mrs. Ryberg was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Bellefontaine.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Ann (Gene) Brannon, Covington, Ohio, Kathie (Dennis) Hagerman, Lima, Ohio; 2 sons, Carl (Joyce) Yale, Jr., of Austin, Texas and Clinton (Cathy) Yale of Bellingham, Washington; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Henry Pace of Palestine, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at Sanford-Eichholtz Funeral Home, Lakeview, Ohio on Friday, November 21, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. where friends may call two hours prior.  Pastor Jeffory D. Willetts officiating.  Burial will be in Willow Branch Cemetery, Waynesfield.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church in Bellefontaine.

Mac McGuire, Jr.

Mac McGuire, Jr., 77, of Lakeview, passed away Wednesday morning, November 5, 2008, at The Ridge at Shawnee, Lima, Ohio.

Mac was born on July 13, 1931 in Lima, Ohio to the late Mac Sr. and Lois Griffiths McGuire.

He is survived by a Daughter: Kathleen Griffa of Melbourne, Florida, Grandson: Marshal Griffa of Melbourne, Florida, Nephew: Beau (Fran) Brien of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Longtime Friend: Jeanette Mack of Lakeview.

Mac graduated from South High School, Lima. He was retired from Asbestos Workers Union, Local 41, Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was a member of the Indian Lake Moose Lodge #1533, and Indian Lake Eagles Aeries #3615, both of Lakeview. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Per Mr. McGuire's wishes his body was cremated. A graveside service will be held 12:00 noon, Saturday, December 6, 2008 (date changed) in Huntsville Cemetery, Huntsville, Ohio.

Audrey Suzanne Bates

Audrey Suzanne Bates
Audrey Suzanne Bates, 82, of West Liberty, passed away on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at Heartland of Bellefontaine.

She was born in Nottingham, England on October 11, 1926 to the late Herbert William Baker and Dorothy Lydia Cooper.  On November 213, 1946 she married John Henry Bates, Jr. in Nottingham, England, and then arrived in the U.S. to join her husband's family on Dec. 12, 1946.  Her husband preceded her in death on January 31, 1997.  She is also preceded in death by a sister, Yvonne Breen and a sister-in-law and close friend, Ruth Bates.

She is survived by her son, Michael J. (Carolyn) Bates of Annapolis, MD; two daughters, Sue (Lynn) Fullerton of Bellefontaine and Stephanie (Dennis) Norris of Westerville; a sister-in-law, Lucy Bates Persinger of St. Paris; seven grandchildren, William, Margaret, and Katie Bates; Elizabeth and Ian Fullerton; and Jordan and Amanda Norris and numerous nieces and nephews.

A homemaker, she was a member of the United Church of Christ in West Liberty where she was active with the Crusader's Sunday school class and the Missionary Aid Society with the church.  She was in charge of the Church Bereavement Committee for many years.  She belonged to the Logan County Extension Homemaker's Club and loved reading, knitting, and sewing. She enjoyed feeding birds and playing with her cats. She took pleasure in baking cookies and cooking for the family and church pot-luck dinners. She was most proud of her children and grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, November 24, 2008 at the United Church of Christ in West Liberty with Pastor Will Stackhouse officiating.  Visitations will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in West Liberty.
