A performer with ArcheDream for HUMANKIND spreads her arms to make a butterfly Friday at Bellefontaine High School.
ArcheDream for HUMANKIND, a Philadelphia-based mask theatre company, has traveled the world performing its completely original, brightly colored, black lit productions.

Not too long ago the company returned from a stint in Taiwan, where they performed more than 20 shows and workshops. Now, they're in Logan County. (Video interviews included.)

ArcheDream for HUMANKIND will present an encore performance of its black light production "Deep Blue" Saturday night at the historic Holland Theatre in downtown Bellefontaine.

The Bellefontaine Cultural Arts Commission brought the company here.

The traveling company already performed "Deep Blue" Friday morning as the finale of the Summer Enrichment Academy at the Bellefontaine High School auditorium.

The show features a glowing array of vibrant costumes highlighted by black lighting. Five performers dance to an original score of tribal music, characterized by heavy drumbeats and upbeat melodies.

Executive Director Glenn Weikert is one of the performers. He says the show draws on things that can be seen in nature.

The company wrote each of its five dramas. The performances also feature totally original musical scores.

Weikert, 32, co-founded the company with Alan Bell, a South African native he met in Miami at a DJ conference in 2000.

The duo assembled a team of actors and dancers and has been performing ever since.

Weikert says the most satisfying part of being a traveling performer is the interaction with the communities he visits.

More from Weikert.

Saturday night's performance is one of several concerts and other events put on each year by the Bellefontaine Cultural Arts Commission.

Cultural Arts Director Dena Campbell talks about some of the commission's other productions.

Curtains at the Holland Theatre will open Saturday night at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for children. Persons who wear a mask get $2 off.
