Russells Point Council met in regular session Monday night.

Russells Point Police Chief Joe Freyhof gave a presentation to the council at their Monday evening meeting. Freyhof demonstrated a new portable breathalyzer, one of two given to the department in conjunction with the Highway Safety Program.

Chief Freyhof estimated that traffic in the Indian Lake area during the upcoming summer holiday may double and the department is wanting to ensure a safe place for all who are heading to the Lake and surrounding area. (Audio interview included.)

Listen to Police Chief Freyhof discuss new breathalyzers.

In addition, Chief Freyhof told the council that the Neighborhood Watch Picnic was a success and he thanked council for their continued support.

Freyhof stated that he wishes to keep an open door policy and wants to help keep the community informed on issues.

Freyhof also acknowledged that he has applied for several grants and a previous grant which provides $700 towards the purchase of new vests for the department. The new vests will be needed in the next year.

The council approved the treasurer's report. The general fund had an ending balance of $522,716.68.

In other business, the council rejected further action on ordinance 08-1015, which was to establish set back locations for new mailboxes on village streets.

Solicitor Robert Eshenbaugh, Jr. spoke to the council concerning a City of Dublin appeal of sections of the Ohio Building Code. The village law is currently constitutional and Eshenbaugh will inform the village if there are any future changes in legality.

The council voted to make changes in the playground area, including a basketball court to the Parks Committee for review.

Mayor Greg Iiams reported on a tax ordinance that will be presented at the next meeting. The tax budget was requested by the State of Ohio for the next two years as the village moves out of emergency status.

Mayor Iiams also reported on the annual CCR Water Quality Report which came back with good ratings for the third consecutive quarter.

Mayor Iiams acknowledged a letter he wrote to ODOT in reference to getting a crosswalk installed on Route 33 at Lincoln Boulevard in light of recent accidents and fatalities in the area.

The village is gearing up for the annual Beach Spectacular and Fireworks, which will be Saturday July 5th.

Four cruisers and all village police will be out maintaining traffic along with state troopers.
